    After decades of fixing anything with a gas motor, no tech school, but landed in a dealership as a service tech because I needed sick pay and vacation was nice. But after watching “American Restorations” I was amazed at the ingenuity of the American Inventor and the mechanisms, gear drive, cam action that hundreds of parts come together even durning the 19th century. Rick Dale has to calculate in his head the number of man-hours for each part of the operation plus parts, materials, chroming, sandblasting, painting and still make a profit. It takes a team with talent, even simple jobs all on something that they have never seen inside before!
    My hat is off to him and his infectious excitement during the reveal of the finished product.
    I could look at a simple rear door latch off any passenger car. Look at the number of functions it has. Inside disconnect for kids (Never had that), latch, lock, un-lock, secondary latch, outside release, inside release, etc. I can’t imagine the guy who designed the first one. Others copied it then added what is today modern door latch.
    Rick, I have been to Vegas twice before for work, never gamble, but I would shake your hand! ASE master tech since 1978, retired. DK, Omaha.

    Good to see you back Rick! As I was out there, maybe 8 years ago or more & enjoyed the tour & meeting you in person. And what impressed me most was your knowledge and finding out the History of it all. & having the ability to restore things when it looks impossible to me. And most of all, you gave me the confidence to do the same in some levels. And Thanks to people like you! Pushcart Jimmy

    Hey Rick, you may remember me. My name is Bill Cochell I sold you the house on Jones you started from. I lived in the back house and my partner was buying the house on a contract for sale and transfer it to you. I’m sure you can’t forget that character that held the mortgage. Anyway I’ve been following you over the years and delighted in your success! I lived in Vegas for 20 years the best years of my life boy do I miss it!,

    Lately I’ve been enjoying rewatching AR on Defy TV and realizing how much I liked the informative realism of the work involved in the restoration process...don’t care so much for the drama/banter scenarios though. The show inspired me to dive into some of my own machine restorations.

    • @alphabeets
      @alphabeets 3 года назад +3

      Yeah, the drama and stupid talk between the workers got to be too much. I want to learn something when I watch. This series is much better.

    • @alphabeets
      @alphabeets 3 года назад +3

      The producers tried to make it into the next Kardashians or something and it lost all direction and its original purpose.

    • @dreamcatcherdb
      @dreamcatcherdb 3 года назад

      @@alphabeets The Repair Shop from the BBC is also pretty good but most of their restorations are too finiky for my liking. Fortunately, there are restoration channels of all sorts on YT now...Hand Tool Rescue is great though the absolute lack of any talking can sometimes get a little boring. I'm yet to find anything that hits that sweet spot of giving informative restoration advice, a little charisma, and is on target with the old machines I like to restore. I'm curious to see where Restoration Rick takes the channel too. So far I'm a 50/50 fan of the channel.

      Yeah when they added Leonard it was just bullshit at that point

    • @dreamcatcherdb
      @dreamcatcherdb 3 года назад

      @@realrickharrison3103 You're one to talk...Pawn Stars is about 90% unnecessary [scripted?] drama. lol. Seriously, there is a lot of appeal seeing the craftsmanship involved in the skilled restoration of an object. It's unfortunate that the History Channel only wants to focus on the shenanigans.

    its a Koken "Club" chair, mid 50s to early 60s. Koken "President" has two tone trim on the side panels instead on the virtical trim pieces on the side panels like this one.

    Echoing many others, I really miss seeing Rick’s Restoration on History Channel. I have no idea what the reasons may have been, be it contracts, health issues, someone getting into criminal trouble, disagreements between the company and the channel, etc. I guess it’s a private matter we may never know, but I really wish that I did. When the show was changed, I stopped watching. Part of the appeal was Rick’s shop itself and his people. I work in television, so I understand some of the frustrations. It can be a harsh business. I hope these videos on the RUclips channel get lots of views, and Rick’s business and health of he and his family and crew are doing well.
