The hills in Junagadh district of Gujarat state of India are known as Girnar. This is the proven area of the Jains from here Lord Narayana, Krishna's greatest brother Tirthankara Bhagavan Devadidev 1008 Neminath Bhagwan attained salvation, whose stage is on the fifth Tonk. It is a sacred place which is an important pilgrimage for both Jain and Hindu religious people. The mountain range serves as a center of religious activity amidst the lush green Gir forest
This mountain is located in the district Junagadh, Kathiawar, Gujarat, whose ancient name was 'Girinagar'. Ravatak mentioned in the Mahabharata is an ancient pilgrimage center in the core of the mountain. There are many Jain temples on the top of the mountain. There are 7,000 stairs to reach it. Among them, the oldest temple is built during the time of Gujarat King Kumarapala. The second one was built by brothers named Vastupala and Tejpal. It is called Tirthankar Mallinath Temple. It was built in 1288 (1237 AD) in the Vikram era. The third temple is of Neminath which was built in about 1277 AD. It is the most spacious and grand. In the ancient times, the beauty of these mountains was unique because their halls, pillars, shikhara, garbhagriha etc. were very shiny and beautiful due to the construction of clean marble. Now the natural beauty has faded due to several repairs. On the mountain is the Charan Paduka of the Tirthankara Neminath whom Hindus know as the temple of Dattatreya and also Gomukhi Ganga. It is a pilgrimage center for the Jage Hindus and Jains.
The temple of Ambamata is situated on the peak of Ambamata. This is the temple of Yaksini Ambika Devi. Three pools named Gaumukhi, Hanuman Dhara and Kamandal are situated here. In the ancient times, these hills were the penance of Jain sages and the sports of some Aghori saints. This is the main pilgrimage of the Jains after Palitana and Sammed Shikhar. The Jain temples on the mountain are ancient and beautiful. The breed of lions here is also more famous, whose numbers are gradually decreasing.
The average elevation of these hills is 3,500 feet but the number of peaks is high. Prominent among them are Jain Tirthankara Neminath, Ambamata, Gorakhnath, Oughdar Sikhar, Guru Dattatreya and Kalka. The highest peak is 3,666 feet high. Devotees of all religions come here and visit the Jain temple along with Shri Gurudutt ji .. The famous 'Gir Van National Park' for the Asiatic lions is located in the forest area of this mountain. The ancient name of Girnar was 'Girinagar'. There are temples of Mallinath and Neminath here. There is also a pillar of Emperor Ashoka here. According to Mahabharata, Revatak is an ancient pilgrimage site situated in the core of the mountain. It is also a sacred pilgrimage center for Jain devotees.
