It is about you as a Mexican or Mexican American being brought up in the North and have that certain Chicano way of life and culture. Where is the North? In the Chicano world, it is in the west coast from the Bakersfield area all the way to Washington State or the Pacific NORTHwest. There are many Mexican Americans or Chicanos in this area that have never been locked up and are not affiliated with any prison gang. No prison gang can dictate whether someone on the outside identifies as a Norteno. What about the Nortenos that never got locked up and became lawyers, doctors, politicians, etc etc? Nobody ever talks about those people. Or just regular working family men that dress down in Chicano style and who are into lowriders and Mexican history and have pride of their region they call home. The Norte.
