Just picked one up today along with my new sled😁. Hopefully I never have to use it just like the pack, but if you are anywhere in the backcountry this is an absolute must. If you can’t afford one of these and a pack, you can’t afford the sport. Buy the cheapest one if you have to, but please please wear something. That’s just the way it is. I lost my fourth friend last week to another slide and he was wearing ALL of the necessary gear so accidents still happen and don’t think these are a save all deal. However, they greatly improve your chances of not having to go through I went through again last week. Please please please get one, no matter what. Also, I would highly recommend taking some hands on classes. In my opinion another absolute must. NO ONE is as good as they can be when it comes to saving your friends or someone else’s life so don’t think your too educated or smart to not have to always strive to learn more. Be safe and have fun!!!
Great video, I just picked up the Barryvox as my first beacon ever. The simplicity was my biggest selling point, well that and the 70 meter search strip! #theshredmedsproject #shredmedsbrigade
I have two Ortovox F1 beacons. Practiced very often, and as an instructor at a major resort in Utah there were plenty of times which I trained with athletes I was coaching. We got really good with the analog F1, and I was much faster with that analog than anyone with a digital. MUCH faster. I recently bought the Barryvox s and am using the F1s to learn the Mammut Barryvox, simulating two victims with the Ortovox beacons. And I’m STILL substantially faster with the analog F1, both with 1 and 2 victim simulation
This shows the value of knowing your equipment and a lot of practice! Nice one! Unfortunately the vast majority of users don't dedicate so much time to working with their transceivers, which makes a digital device a more reliable and quick option by far. 👍👍
What I don't like about the mamout Barryvox as well as ALL of the other transceiver is the LCD READ OUT.YA,it uses next to nothing energy from the batteries because of the LCD but if it gets cold then it will get sluggish and can splatter and then you have REAL PROBLEMS.I use the BCA TRACKER 4 with the LED READOUT and cold weather won't effect the readout.Even during the day when it's brite and sunny readout is a breeze.
Hi Benzknees! To the best of our knowledge, there are no transceivers in production that "alter" the orientation of their antennae. However it does have three antennae just like most modern transceivers so that flux lines are transmitted in a 3D space for a strong signal, regardless of burial orientation. We hope that helps! Here's some more detailed information on the transceivers: www.mammutavalanchesafety.com/2017/03/new-mammut-barryvox-and-barryvoxs.html
Hey Ixwvandenberg, thanks for watching! That's a TOBE Vivid monosuit. Keep an eye on our channel for some TOBE, 509, FXR, Motorfist and more outerwear videos this winter!

Great Review! Thank you for taking the time to show us. I am still deciding between the BCA Tracker 3 and Mammut Barryvox.
Thank you! It’s clearer and berger than pass 3 hours on Google searching for this kind of informations
Awesome! These transceivers are sooo sweet.
Thanks for a great in depth review. Only question, do I need to replace my Element, which so far works fine?

Does it alter its antennae orientation (like the Ortovox) depending on whether the avalanche buries you horizontally or vertically?
