Few years ago, for me it was a pain to use Visual Studio, but I have to say that the 2019 release was great and it looks like 2022 is not going to disappoint. Good to see that Microsoft is moving more into open source integration and making the community edition available for open source projects :+1
Great job by VS teams, Hot reload , improved performance on top of that the CPU utilization tasks and WSL2, wish all features are available for all versions :)
The irony of you not having a clue about what machine learning is...it is literally all about adapting to your code and not accepting the default code completions.
As long as the final decision lays in the developers hands, things are as they should, the computer helps you a lot, but it does not take away your own. That point is probably gonna be the most important debate of future.
22:38 Uh, yeah, he didn't ask about platforms. He ASKED if we have to buy the Professional or Enterprise editions of VS to get the features you have demoed. She completely avoided the question.
@Nathaniel Walker VS is poor software, so the only thing that they can do well is advertising, because you can throw money for advertising and it will have success.
In today’s culture, people are so afraid or accustomed to not making a negative point at all. It’s despicable and unsettling to me. It wasn’t like this before approximately 2006. If you go back and watch old interviews or what have you, you’ll see how people were much more genuine and honest and not afraid of negativity back then. I think it’s a sign of the times today that people are so afraid because there is so much political tension. It makes me long to live in an earlier time period.
To me its more interesting to expect things are *free by default*. This certainly steam boils the general narrative of “developers” can work for free. That those two things are the same thing is a fallacy some “programmers” simply don’t seem to understand.
@@Ratchet2022 Yeah, I'll never understand that. I suppose that's why people are getting more offended at things I say, because I'm blunt and honest, good or bad. With me, you'll never have to wonder. 😉
@@NicoKaiser Yep, same here. But still, when you save a file and have "hot reload on save" activated (and started the app without debugging, very important, otherwise it's not working properly), it is freaking fast! 😁

I use different technologies for web development (JS, PHP, Java and ASP) and I use VS Code as my editor, the only exception I make is when working with ASP, then I use Visual Studio and everything that goes with it is just amazing and just keeps on getting better. Great job and great video!
POV: Currently using the hot-reload thingy and it's SUPERB! Normally I had to wait for VS to rebuild the whole project, but now, I DON'T! I'll definitely be 10x now. LMAO. Good job, Team!
Nicest improvement for me is the new Dark Mode. It's light years improved! That said, the background color is still far too bright. I changed my editor plain text background to black, and it's vastly easier to read for my extremely poor eyes.
Wow ! that's the future right there for every developer. Thank you Microsoft for making this happens and congratulation to every developer out there :)
Great job guys, awesome presentation with all the demos and the new VS seems to have really nice new features. The only thing I would change directly after installing would be the font, the current one looks like Java-Font xD
Why is it every time a new version is released it is NEVER ready to support SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS projects right out of the box? It's always weeks to months until we have extensions to support them. That is becoming unacceptable!
SSIS is...well, a nightmare from a tooling standpoint. My experience is that C# is significantly faster than SSIS at many tasks. There are also a bunch of other BI tools, like Pentaho Data Integration
Yes, as I mentioned in my own post I found that out myself this morning. Given that SQL Server is mission critical for a lot of businesses you can't chop and change tools just because MS is tardy with releases.
"As I mentioned in my own post", which has since been deleted, it seems. Perhaps I'd prefer to be treated as "paying customer" rather than the insincere drivel of being addressed as "friend". I'm guessing that MS didn't like the fact that I pointed to the way they blew this issue off in the Developer Community.
Since it's written in C++, a 64 bit version should have happened 8-10 years ago, the reasoning given so far doesn't make good sense! Also rebranding edit and continue as Hot Reload bothers me a bit. Having said that, it looks like a stellar release, which I will jump all over!!!
First impressions: - Don't like new file icons - Don't like new dropdown for git checkout, it cannot be resized, too small compared to previous - Changed Font which is just bigger / bolder, - 3 lines on fullscreen because of that
I stopped using Visual Studio in 2017 because there was only a 32-bit version, and it crushed when IntelliSense was running out of memory. Nowadays, I don't regret I don't use it anymore, and I am not going back. Microsoft, listen to the users, it might be helpful.
Regarding performance: The example .NET solution with 176 projects loaded within ~10 seconds. But one of my C++ solutions with 8 projects loaded within ~20 seconds. I get that Microsoft's main focus is their own programming language, but this is ridiculous. Also, I think it was actually faster before switching to VS 2022.
Visual C++ is a part of .NET. This is obviously an unverifiable comparison since their computer probably has more cores or processing power anyway. Did you compare how long it takes to load your same solution in 2022 to how long in 2019? P.S. I could tell 2022 loaded even a little faster for me, if not quite faster. I didn’t time it though.
