I have a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder and need to replace the hard rubber bushing that goes into the break pedal. It comes into contact with the tip of the switch to turn off the break lights. The cruise control switch also rests on a similar bushing. Both bushing disintegrated after only 22 years😂😂😂, so no complaint here. They cost $5.00 each. I think a mechanic would charge over $50 to replace them. Definitely you solved a big problem for me. Thanks!

That seems to be early for those switches to fail, but it is possible that there is dust or grit in them that is making it lose contact every now and then. I took apart the one that caused my issue and it looked pretty good inside except on of the contacts looked like it had over heated and was completely discolored, the other contacts looked great like they were new.

Friend, You are a person who "has your furniture in your head, well placed" Thank you because I had my focus on this issue that you solved very well. A note. Do not disconnect any electrical part in Nissan, without disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery. For the CPU to "see" when something new is installed. And avoid programming you want a complicated and expensive scanner. Thank you, Doctor

I recently aquired a relatively low mileage(89,000) 1996 Nissan Altima. It runs great, everything works as it should, except for the cruise control. I tried to use it, and it would not set the cruise speed. The cruise control light on dash blinked. I read it may be the brake light switch? The brakes light up fine, but I was just going to go ahead and purchase a new brake light switch, since they're not a whole lot of money. Then, looking on rock auto, I see my car(apparently lots of cars) also has a similar looking, cruise control release switch. I don't have a way to test the switches, and now I'm not sure which one to replace, or maybe just replace both? Does spraying WD-40 on them somehow restore the connection or something if one, or both quit working?
Any Advice would he greatly appreciated.

    • @vancranford8666
      @vancranford8666 2 года назад +1

@@BradleyGunner-67 Hi David. I'm not the original poster. He replaced both switches and that's probably the best way to do it. But I'm, at best, a "shade tree" mechanic, so I just took both of the switches out and sprayed down into the plungers with WD-40. They are still working fine today. WD-40 is good for restoring SOME connectivity problems and worked well in this case. The switches are easy to remove and replace and require no tools to do so. Just take care to put them and their connectors back just as you found them and it should work. If not, then just replace them as the original poster did. One or both of these switches does permit the cruise control to work. I'm not sure which one, so service them both. Good luck.

@@vancranford8666 Hi Van, I doubt I'm even at the 'shade tree rank yet. I used to be an expert at taking cars apart though, very quickly, usually violently(until I gave up drinking that is).
I appreciate your reply, and passing on your knowledge. Because, I am now not as confused about what to do, and I'm just going to go with your advice, and replace both switches with new ones. Thank you!

Very well done! I have a 2009 FX35 with a touch over 100k miles that is starting to show signs of starting troubles that seem switch-related rather than starter related. Your video was great! The steady webcam idea was brilliant and worked well. Your apologies for grunts are appreciated but not necessary. Anyone who has worked under the dash knows exactly the torture you were enduring!!! I previously installed a remote start in this vehicle and left part of my soul under the dash in the process. Thanks for sharing your experience.

All I did is to remove the switch, open the switch gently by releasing it from side clips, you will see two free terminals. Take them out. Use maf sensor cleaner to clean it. rubbed them gently against sandpaper (two small round points) put them back on, make sure both terminals should touching each other. I have fixed my cruise blinking and not engaging issue. You probably don't need to buy new one😂. 5 minutes and done. Cheers

There are videos showing how to clean the switches with just an icepick/meat thermometer/whatever long thin and sharp, and a flathead screwdriver. Newer vehicle switches can run you 60-80 bucks for just the brake.

I can understand trying to save some cash now with inflation out of control, and gas prices still through the roof... When I did these switches for my juke they were not expensive back four years ago. Also to note in four years since I replaced the switches they have not failed to operate one time, the car always starts.

Your garden is so impressive I wish I could do that much but I am limited by water here, the well only produces about 1.25 gallons per minute so it is easy to dry it out with too much watering.

I’m not sure if the 2020 Sentra has the same switches but it definitely has the same issues. My niece drove over 1000 miles to our place a couple weeks ago. Somewhere along the way someone told her that her twilight was out. I went out to the car with her and told her to turn the lights on. Sure enough only one twilight was on. I told her to press the brake pedal, nothing! The third brake light worked but the two in the tail lights didn’t. A 4 year old car and if this is the switch issue, she’s past her warranty for a faulty switch ( I know bulbs, brake pads, tires, wipers etc aren’t covered ) so this is on her. I’ve never had a tail light, or signal light burn out within the first 5 or 6 years so if 3 bulbs in the rear taillights burned out that’s pretty sad. I’ve never had a switch malfunction but then I’ve only ever owned one Nissan an early 80s Stanza. By the number of RUclips videos and Nissan Forum comments, this is a very common Nissan problem. This is also a safety hazard as brake lights come in pretty handy in avoiding being hit from behind.

These videos are great but I just have a hard time visualizing what I need to do, or where to be, when the camera seems to be taking a picture upside down . However, that's a great idea to be using a 2nd camera device to help see where things are, rather than turning my head upside down!

It is a tight area down under there. If you follow the brake pedal back side then up the the arm you can see the switches attached near the top of the arm.

Turo Jr Guerrero mine was fine for close to a year after replacing the brake switch and now I’m replacing it again. Something tells me some models of the jukes have a shitty reoccurring brake issue.

Thanks fro the video - I think this might be my problem on my 2103 qashqai. Are there any adjustments on the switches ? I have also got the "traction control " light on the dashboard .....could that be related to a "false" brake indication ??
    Thanks in advance

Great video, just one question. What was the issue that you were having to require this fix? I am currently troubleshooting cruise control switches that do not turn on at all. I was told it was this switch or my clockspring.

Great video!!! do you know if the switches have a specific position (the contact area with the pedal) I see the switches have a finish in the cylindrical face that you insert in their slot... can you move the gap in between the pedal and the sensor? Thank you very much!!!
