    I graduated from the San Diego HCS in 1972. Back then, people usually went from A school to a Naval Hospital to get experience in patient care. After that, they very often were ordered to the FMF school at Camp Pendleton. I see a number of posts here saying that people want to go FMF. Back when I in, I don't think I ever heard of anybody who wanted to go the Marines. Times change I guess...

    Glad I came across the vid! I got my HM position and ship out for boot camp on August 15th! Could you give me a short summary of what to expect in A school? Difficult? Fun? Would appreciate it.

      NULIFIDIAN POS Congrats and can't wait to serve side by side my fellow HMs. Don't worry too much about Aschool. It's basic anatomy class. Knowing basic EMT helps as well. Build bonds with your other HMs in your class. Start networking then. I have friends who I still keep in touch with and get stationed here at Camp Pendleton.

    I'm interested in being a Corpsman because I really want to do medical stuff and be in the Navy as well, but I haven't found any C school that relates to the specialty I would like to have. I would like to do Critical Care stuff in a hospital or work in the ER of a hospital. Do you know of any C schools that would put me in the ICU or ER ?

    • @sobingvlogs3103
      @sobingvlogs3103  8 лет назад

      Good for you and wanting to be a corpsman. But there is no c school needed for those specific places. They are given to you in your first command. Either that or you can request it. You can ask if you could work in the ER, APU(preps the PT for surgery) or PACU(or after surgery care)

    Hey I just stumbled across your channel, I know this is a bit late but I was wondering how one goes about getting the NEC 8427 or SARC and also how hard it is to get and the availability, since that's what I am aiming for, I've read a couple forums but they've all got me confused at this point since there is plenty of different responses. Thank you for your commitment and best of luck on your journey.

    • @EzraB123
      @EzraB123 8 лет назад

      SARC is extremely selective and basically impossible to get right out of A-school. They look for seasoned FMF Corpsman who are E4 or higher. I would say if you want to be an HM, work toward your FMF qualification and then put in a package for SARC.

    Thank you for info on this subject! I have considered enlisting, but have some questions! I am interested in Pre-med/ radiology (I plan to go to med school, then specialize in radiology upon graduation after the navy of course.) I am not very interested in FMTB, so I guess my main question would be, if I don't want to go to FMTB training is that something they are able to send you to no matter if you want to go it or not, or if I chose to pursue radiology in C-school would they not be able to send me orders to FMTB? I hope this wasn't too drawn out! Thanks so much!

    • @sobingvlogs3103
      @sobingvlogs3103  8 лет назад

      You don't have to do FMTB. Just make sure you let them know during a school. Talk to a career counselor. And you should do radiology c school if you are considering that once you get your degree. Not a lot of c schools will make you go FMTB. Since they paid for you to go to school for an extra time. Let me know if you have further questions.

    Awesome video dude, I leave for bootcamp in August then to Corpsman school and I am hoping to get to get orders to FMTB so it would be awesome if you could update on how it goes at Pendleton, I would go to the East FMTB cause I'm a female. Any tips for A school and anything to look at or read before I go would be awesome! Thanks :)

    • @sobingvlogs3103
      @sobingvlogs3103  8 лет назад

      You sound very motivated. That right there will bring you to where you want to go. You will do good. Just don't let people say you can't. Because in the navy, as a corpsman, you always have people willing to help no matter what circumstance. As far as getting ahead, I would widgets do really good during bootcamp. Leave Great Lakes as an E3. It will make it easier for you to pick up, esp getting ahead of your fellow corpsman classmates. Brush up on basic anatomy of the human body. Read EMT books if you can. That's the first part of ASchool. And I will keep you posted on to expect during FMTB. See you in the hospital. It's a small navy.

      +Sobing Vlogs thanks :) I will be E2 with college credits and I already have my EMT-B but will still go through that part of the classes instead of testing out. • @anthonyjuric5996
    @anthonyjuric5996 8 лет назад +2

    I only ask this bc I've heard differing accounts...are you in fact automatically emt-b certified as of completion of corpsman a school? I've read that all Air Force and Army medics are certified as per the curriculum but only corpsmen with specific assignments i.e. Fmf are. Can you please clarify? Thanks in advance.

    • @sobingvlogs3103
      @sobingvlogs3103  8 лет назад

      Yes right after a school you will be able to get it. You just need a couple of courses that are not hard to do after. You just have to go through it. So once you graduate a school take your test somewhere else and you would be certified.

    • @anthonyjuric5996
      @anthonyjuric5996 8 лет назад

      +Sobing Vlogs Ok, so then it is separate from the curriculum. Definitely something I would go after if it's just a little additional work. Thanks for the reply.

      Well since I have dual NECs/jobs, my pharmacy tech job got me attached to the hospital but if anything goes down in the Middle East, I am attached with 1st med battalion. Small boys are what it sounds like, smaller ships. And I'm here to answer anything as soon as I can.

How would I go about making the recruiter realize I want to do nothing else other than FMF/FMTB? isn't it a negotiation as well? how do they decide what rank to give you? does my past experience and certifications get taken into account when making their decision?

    I leave to boot camp aug. 22nd this year, then a school in Texas.. we can choose what hospital we want to work in? And if we're in a hospital, and say we want to eventually go overseas can we do that? And in a school do they go in depth with teaching what type of different medical teachings there are? For example like radiology, dental, do they teach all these subject in a school? Thank you so much, I really appreciate all the help you're giving me!

    • @iamsuperperfect4605
      @iamsuperperfect4605 7 лет назад

      If you go blue side and want a hospital right after A-School that's possible. The common overseas hospitals are Rota and Yokosuka for blue side, green side would be Okinawa. Spain and Japan are typically really popular hospital destinations especially for girls, they really like to go overseas so you'd probably have to finish in the Top 5 in A-School realistically to have a shot at those hospitals.

    Do you get to pick your subspecialty such as X-ray tech or cv tech or do they just randomly assign you. Also can you switch orders with people if there is a place that u want to go and they are willing? also if you do want to go back to great lakes is there a good chance that you can go there if u put it down?

      aaron bruegger in all honesty, I really depends if there is a billet or an opening for ships. I know plenty of people who went on s ship out of a school, but that's because the Navy had open slots for them. Just make sure to put that as one of your choice if not the top.

    I am interested in joining the Navy to become an hm. My ultimate goal is to become a registered nurse. I heard I could challenge the board to get my LVN, would I also be able to challenge the board to get my RN?

    • @iamsuperperfect4605
      @iamsuperperfect4605 7 лет назад +5

      Hell No on the Challenge to RN, most girls think there's similarities for being a HM to an RN, there's no relation. HM at most will give you EMT certs but you'd still have to go to Nursing school when you get out. If RN is the goal do your 4yrs get out go to Nursing School for free.

    • @sobingvlogs3103

      Caiden Simpson so before you go to boot camp, you will find out what job you will get. After boot camp, you go to A-School. After aschool, they will ask what you want to do. Yes, most C-school gradates I've met go to FMTB en route to their first command. One of my instructors here, HMC Shaw, is an X-ray tech and did 2 tours in Iraq.
      If your male your first command will probably be a shore duty (one of the major naval hospitals) with FMTB en route. Learn your job, get experience, then when your up for orders 2 years later you have to go to sea duty, which can either be an operational Marine unit (infantry, airwing, logistics, etc.) or a ship. If you have the 8404 NEC you'll go with the Marines and you'll have a better say in where you go.

      No he only two place FMTB would be in Camp Pendleton and Camp Lejeune. And you would have to go through a school first.

    Sobing Vlogs quick question brotha, so I tried out for a special program and wasn't successful, so i had to pick a new job, I picked HMDA. I am curious, Do I Get to go to A school and pick a different C school? or am I stuck with DA as a C school, and is there anyone I can talk to about changing that, I would like FMF or something like that....score high in A school, what can I do?

    • @sobingvlogs3103
      @sobingvlogs3103  8 лет назад

      Miguel Arias you do go to a school to become of course a corpsman after that dental has its own C school like you said and would be able to go to another C school after you archive your NEC. But that is usually hard to do. Especially with the manning of corpsman.

    • @sobingvlogs3103
      @sobingvlogs3103  8 лет назад

      Miguel Arias now if you want to go FMF have to go to FM TV school which I have seen multiple times dental text actually go to FMTV to become FMF so do not worry about not getting that you still are qualified to.

      So I just wanna make sure, I will go to basic A school, my C school is already set in stone Dental Assistant, from there do I need time in the rate to go to FMTB, how do I go about that, cause I would really like the field medic role if possible

    Is there an age limit for fmtb? I'm 29 and am wondering if that would be an option or if I would be sent straight to blue side.

      No. There is a guy in my class who is 36 and got orders to Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital with FMTB en route.

    what does it mean "picking orders"?

    • @sobingvlogs3103
      @sobingvlogs3103  8 лет назад +1

      Rene - picking orders is when you choose where you want to go next after a-school. Or to your next duty station.

    What are my chances of receiving orders for FMTB as a female? Would being honor grad during A-school help my chances? Or does it just depend on the billets that are open at that specific time? This video was really helpful! Thank you :)

    • @sobingvlogs3103
      @sobingvlogs3103  8 лет назад

      your chances are a little less because they only send female corpsman to camp Lejeune for FMTB. But don't get your hopes up. Billets for those open up the same time. and being honor grad, as far as i know, doesn't really help. It depends on what you want. So i would recommend you put FMTB on the top of our list. And even put that you want to be attached with the marines. I know plenty of females recently who got orders for FMTB. keep your head up! PS, ill be posting videos on how to study for advancement. what do you think?

    • @shakirasalcie5455
      @shakirasalcie5455 8 лет назад

      That'll be great actually! I'm going in as an E1 since I'm straight out of high school. How about advancement during bootcamp? I'm willing to work for a spot, but if I'm not given orders for FMTB straight out of high school, is there anyway I can receive them while I'm at my duty station? FMTB is option A and an overseas billet is another option for me.

    • @sobingvlogs3103
      @sobingvlogs3103  8 лет назад

      oh don't count yourself short. you will do great. do good in bootcamp. pass all of your book test and physical test and you will get promoted one rank. get a position and another rank up. getting FMTB orders won't depend on how old you are, if you just graduated high school, or what rank you are so you don't have to worry about that. it's the availability of the billets. Overseas is nice as well, i can contest to that. you are gonna join the navy for a reason, heck, traveling is one of them. And lets just say you don't get it out of A-School, after two years at your first duty station, you can pick orders for FMTB. and you will actually be able to see what billets are open for you. (when do you ship to bootcamp?)

      The start guide and the Petty Officers at my recruiting station have been a huge help!! I've been studying like crazy lol. I leave mid August, so I don't have all the time in the world, but I'm looking forward to starting this new chapter in my life. Maybe we'll run into each other one day haha!

    • @sobingvlogs3103
      @sobingvlogs3103  8 лет назад

      +J Mjolnir A-School for HMs is located at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. So there is no way you would be able to do it at the same place.

    What are my chances of getting Japan or even on a carrier after A school?

    • @sobingvlogs3103
      @sobingvlogs3103  8 лет назад

      Ehh really depends if there are open billets for that hospital or the carrier that is stationed there.

    • @EzraB123
      @EzraB123 8 лет назад +1

      My class has about 60-70ish students and 14 got Japan. 17 in total got overseas, one Guam, one Italy, one Cuba, the rest are going to Japan. Going to Spain or Japan is very common. A carrier not so much.

    I'm going to be HM & my family keeps telling me im going to go to war if i do LMAO xD
    my question is, are you active? have you been deployed? How many HM's get called on to be deployed? If you know anything about it, it'd be much appreciated
    anyway much appreciation & love from another HM! currently i'm LSS (Submarine) but i'm changing into HM haha

    • @sobingvlogs3103

      Not all corpsman go to war. Not even most do. I am active duty and have only been on shore duties. Not really the best idea but it's what I got. The only way someone would get deployed is if you go through FMTB. But as a regular corpsman, it's not high of a chance but still possible. Kick ass always!

      You get to be certified on that specific job and could use that outside of the military. And it just gives you free schooling that you would have done outside the military.
