Sheikh should ask more clarifying questions. Her uncle could be mother's brother. How can he assume its her fathers brother? Clarification was required there.
And never trust your mother. She could do haram too. Satistically over 50% of mothers had did it, or would do it in right circumstances.

      1. Qur'an (49:12), Allah says: "O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful."
      2. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales; and do not look for the others' faults and do not spy, and do not be jealous of one another, and do not desert (cut your relation with) one another, and do not hate one another; and O Allah's worshipers! Be brothers (as Allah has ordered you!")

@@VivaanKambli He was not. I’ll tell you why. Just imagine your spouse is sitting alone in a room with a stranger of the opposite sex, most would never allow for it. But then imagine leaving a husband/wife sitting alone in a room with their sister-in-law/brother-in-law, most would not care, and this often leads to adultery (one’s wife having an affair with his brother, or one’s husband sleeping with her sister). In the USA this happens sometimes.
