Older MGP is fantastic. I got an Obtanium that's 10 yr 11mon. that is fantastic. The Penelope Estate 9 year is also great. I wish I would have jumped on this one, but didn't know about it.
Is obtanium doing MGP bourbon I always thought of them as light whiskey only but yes they are good either way. I did enjoy the Penelope estate 9yr as well but its no where close to this monster
@bourbonbill Obtainium collects from all different sources. I know where I can grab an older Back Bone, I just didn't know if I should shell out the coin. Sounds like I need to pick it up.
The Backbone Bourbon Uncut Single Barrel can be pretty spectacular. I always check the info on the back. Found a 9 yr while visiting my daughter at college. Most are around the 5 -6 range. Those are good but the extra aged are fantastic
Though I’m not a Canadian whiskey fan the older stuff is usually pretty good and George Dickle rye is very solid. In fact GD is something I like. Been drinking it for 40 plus years. We have a brand around here called Dog house it’s BT juice and is pretty good too.
Bill just a heads up if you see the Bookers 2024-03 master distiller’s batch you should consider buying it. I’m not the biggest bookers fan but I think this is an outlier good batch coming in at 130.3 proof hot damn! Not seeing many reviews but I think you would like it! Cheers!
Thanks for the heads up! I do usually see some of the batches in the stores here but there never seems to be any rhyme or reason to what batch we get when lol
I got the Backbone Bourbon Uncut, 5 year MGP. Really good but lacks the extra age. I’ve looked everywhere for the Old Bones and constantly strike out. Great review.
I've got a 17 yr Old Bones private barrel pick from The Party Source in Newport KY thats 115.2 proof. It's also sourced from Dickel but it's delicious.
The backbone 10 year bourbon was great as it was bardstown juice. My sib old bones wasnt as good as Stagg. Very interested in the 10 year rye heard it is good.
Impressive seeming bourbon! Was that a Dara and Bill pick? Just saw another "Best Of 2024" blind. Three bottles in the blind. Two reviewers. One reviewer picked RR15 *2nd place* out of 3 and the other reviewer picked RR15 *last place* out of 3. Both reviewers picked the same bottle as the winner and that bottle is fairly readily available and under $100!
Canadian? Have you had any of the Found North batches or single barrel seasons? I'm a candy-whore as you put it haha, but there seems to be a lot of variation in the Stagg batches that I'm not willing to spend secondary prices just yet. Batch 18 got a lot of favorable reviews, but it's around $300 from what I've seen. I'll pass on stagg for now.
Yes found north is probably the best Canadian stuff I’ve had. I’ve tried some of the batches of it. Stagg Jr batch 16 and a store pick hazmat were my favorite stagg jrs ever. I haven’t had a lot though because as you said too expensive on secondary and I’d rather pick up killer single barrels like this
Had my first Backbone earlier in the month. It was a 5 year old rye. Oh my goodness. It was a 5 yr old rye at 120 something proof and oh my Lord it was delicious. The only negative was that it was a 1 oz sample and I wanted more. So if you can get your hands on a rye from Backbone, go get one!

@@StevenSconeif you can lay eyes on it and it’s pitch black bordering on red in color I’d snag it

Absolutely agree I’ll keep my eyes open for more of these for sure with the age on them
Yes it does. I got that Single barrel pick from the Average Drinker, my first ever Backbone, and it is DELICIOUS.
Absolutely agree!!

Oh I am a Dickel fan as well although actually have never tried their rye so if I see one of now older backbone Dickel ryes I’d snap it up
I grabbed this one as well. Fantastic pour. I did the same and peeled the sticker to check because I was convinced it wasn’t MGP after tasting it!
Haha exactly I was like nah this has to be something other than mgp but unless they broke the law and labeled it wrong it’s mgp haha

Yeah I like those that I’ve tried from samples but had to jump on the 10yr version for a decent price
Backbone Bourbon has awesome offerings BB. 🥃
They sure do first time I’ve owned a bottle but will look for more
I've got a 17 yr Old Bones private barrel pick from The Party Source in Newport KY thats 115.2 proof. It's also sourced from Dickel but it's delicious.
Yeah that would be awesome I love the Dickel 15yr Sib but they only go to about 103 proof or so

Oh so that’s interesting you got a 10yr that was KY distilled then yeah this MGP one is phenomenal
Really want a bottle of this to try
I think they are sold out but keep your eyes open for other picks that sport that age statement and are MGP
Got me a hidden stash too great to hear I have the same stag will do a side by side cheers and merry christmas
That’s awesome! Merry Christmas let me know your results

Yes it was their pick. And what did they put in 1st place?
@@bourbonbill,
First place was Elijah Craig B524.
"Isn't that a kick to the nuts" Hahaha!
It sure is lol
Curious about the 15 year reserve bourbon, says it was distilled in Frankfort, KY.
Now that is interesting! If the price is right it might be worth a gamble

Haha I think this bottle has made me want a backbone rye now too
@ me too! 1 oz wasn’t enough!
