Wow I just love these old black-and-white programs. The twilight zones, the old King Kong movies, yo musical movies with Fred Astaire and others including Marilyn Monroe. Great classic movies, sure is nice to to look back and remember all of these great movies growing up. But am I that old? Has time gone by that fast? It sure has! And now, look how far we’ve come and how out of control Our society is today. My mom is the only one left in her side of the family it’s still alive. I would give anything to go back into the times of the 60s and 70s . I just love these old classics , What are young people don’t want to see them! Thank you for posting and taking me back in time for just a few moments.
It was one of the first episodes that featured black actors, since there weren't many people of color featured on television, around that time, and it also included Ivan Dixon and Stephen Perry, who went on to star in Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun" with Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee, and Kim Hamilton later went on to star in "To Kill a Mockingbird" with Gregory Peck and Mary Badham ( who was featured in the last original Twilight Zone episode, "The Bewitchin' Pool" ). Other than all of this, it was one of my favorite and sentimental episodes that taught me on theorizing what would possibly happen, if certain events had alternate outcomes, or believing in magic or wishing on certain things to happen beautifully.
Thanks for sharing. When I watched this episode I was blown away. “If you believe it will come true.” The power of the mind is real!!! If you believe....
Thank you I named my dog Bolee Jackson😊 I loved it so much... My Bolee passed away 8/17/18. I had the pleasure of having him in my life for little over7 years, I was just thinking of him when your comment popped up made my day 😇😊
Ronnisha JOnes I don’t believe in magic but I like the episode because Rod Serling did this four years before the Civil Rights Act was signed. He helped show the talents that African Americans have as actors. A year later, the show won the Unity Award for Outstanding Contributions to Better Race Relations.
One of my favorite episodes. Kind of sad at the end when Henry said he wasn't going to make any more wishes. Kind of a loss of innocence moment for a child
This great episode, with an all black main cast, made a huge impression on me as a little kid. Then, when the Polar Express animated movie came out about ten years ago, I was again impressed with the message that what we place our faith or trust or understanding in, what we choose to believe, is what makes the biggest impact on the reality we live. I believe life is good, and love is magic. The rest of the details are just challenges we will meet along our way through.
The Twilight Zone actually won the Unity Award for Outstanding Contributions to Better Race Relations in 1961 because of this episode. Rod Serling himself actually said that African-Americans had a great talent for acting and that television should not pass them over.
This is a great, heartfelt, heartbreaking episode. Excellent script, acting and music. This scene is so touching. The faith of a child versus the cynicism of an adult. Thanks for sharing.
This touching scene along with a touching moment in "The Lonely" (with Jack Warden and Jean Marsh), gave me so many feels.....and tears. From a gynoid (Alicia) who can "feel loneliness", to a boxer (Bolie) who has "got to believe" in a young boy's (Henry) magic. The Twilight Zone may be a suspenseful series, but certainly can have lots of heart built into it, at times.
Leah Everhart Did you know that in 1961, The Twilight Zone won the Unity Award for Outstanding Contributions to Better Race Relations because of this episode?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks nearly identical to the roof and surrounding from the movie, "Batteries Not Included". Also, it was either the custodian or superintendent (protagonist) who was an ex-boxer. His name was Harry and rarely talked.

This continues to break my heart since the 1st time it aired. Serling was masterful at storytelling and hope. A beautiful episode

Maybe there is magic, and maybe there’s wishes too. I guess the trouble is, there’s not enough people around to believe

Thank you for posting this. I think this episode is one of the greater and sorely under-appreciated stories from the Twilight Zone.
