I am the uploader of this video, and I just got to say this is America at their best. What I love best about this song is the xylophone. Rock and roll needs more xylophone. I am a classic 70's rocker, love great guitar and great keyboards, but just something about the xylophone that I really love. Anyway, this entire concert was and is America at their best. Enjoy !!!
I’ve been enjoying the hell out of this track the last couple of days. Known about America for decades but never went looking for new tracks, but boy this is a gem. Love the xylophone part. This whole track radiates an urgency saying they all know Hollywood is a sick place, but it continues to exist and cause harm today. My god i love this song. Thanks for the upload!!
The very best live version of this song, along with most of their other hits, are on the "America Live" album. The album was from the late 70's to early 80's, and it wasn't very popular but I think it had some of the best live recordings they ever did. I wish I had it I would upload the entire album myself.
I agree with the comment about the “America Live” album from 1977. I bought the vinyl the week it was released and several years ago I was able to find it on CD, which took some searching. One of the best live albums ever!!
This is the America that I grew up with. This is them. Right there in 1979. Saw my first concert March 30, 1980 in Santa Barbara CA. County Bowl. I've been drawn to them ever since. But this is that AMERICA that i like to remember.
Not the first song about the pitfalls of Hollywood. Belinda Carlisle and Madonna both come to mind. This was, originally, a perfectly vindictive and bitter sweet three and half minute song on the original LP. Classic America vocals and acoustic guitar intact. Here live, its got more angry and urgent vocals. And with a great jazz, sound coupled with the sleazy shots of the "town".... a perfect marriage.
Saw them in 2022 and 2023 still phenomenal and crisp.!
