Through a lot of fault of my own we are in a very tenuous position. I'm 70 and my Mom is 90. We live on our SSI checks,hers=$1,450,mine=$890. Luckily, we own the home. And we are very frugal with food and utilities. Forget about entertainment. We don't go out. We haven't been to a movie theater since 90's. Fast food, forget it. I have some old grocery receipts and I've used them to do an informal check on how much prices have risen in the last 2 years. Almost double, not quite, but almost.
