Pretty much, yeah - but I don't record them myself. I collect sounds recorded by other people who allow their redistribution in works like this. I gather loads of them in a folder, sit down and create a custom soundscape.

I mean maybe it would sound close to this.. but usually there’s the original song playing in the background… but this audio is not the ACTUAL audio from the camera.. this is something this RUclips channel creates and adds sound effects to.
now some moments in this video make it obvious that they are fake . but some of these sounds have to be the actual sound on the video (for example the water sound effect when he gets back into the water 2:45 those are almost impossible to fake so if there are real bits in these video's how did they aquire that footage

+tvideos05 By mixing different audio samples together for each individual shot :) This one was the first and therefore not too complex, so you can clearly single out a background ambience, the vocal track and a sound effect track. Some very basic reverb effects on top. Definitely more of a fun idea than an attempt at realism, and anyone can try!
