My Great Grandfather fought on the Eastern Front. Fortunately for my family to come, he survived up until the complete collapse of the German war effort, and was captured by Americans. He came to the UK, and lived out the rest of his life until 1996. My Father said of him that: he never spoke of the war. He would've been 16-17 when he started to fight. We recognise that people of that age shouldn't drink, drive or vote, yet we're prepared to hold them responsible for their actions as a soldier? It feels immoral to me, especially if they're guilty by association and not outright acts of inhumanity.
1:00:53 I'll never forget how well Ace Combat 4 did their story. It's all from the perspective of a kid who stuck around with the occupying enemy air force after his family got killed by a shot down fighter hitting their house. The enemies were all perfectly normal people. They treated him well and liked having him around. All the main antagonist wanted was a strong enemy to face. He was 100% the most loveable enemy in the series and I still hate having to shoot him down after like 20 years of playing the game.
The logistics and planning for D-Day was bat sh*t crazy. The invasion was one of the most complicated military things in the history of warfare. EDIT: Tommy is right. The real life footage in the video is really damn good.
11:30 thank you. Eisenhower is a very underrated general in world history and one of the best presidents in American history. His leadership was essential to defeating the Axis powers.
My family imagrated to America from Germany but my great great grandfather stayed and was a SS police officer in Warsaw. He was a pow and charged with crimes against humanity and hung. He did horrible things but they were brain washed. A very sad time in history.

As a British person, I understand why you think we would have fought harder than France because Winston Churchill already had quite a bit of experience.
Fr, and it's not like in 1940 that the Brits fought HARDER than the French, they just had the English Channel between them and the Swastika. France mobilized over 3 million men to defend itself in 1940, while the Brits only sent their expeditionary force of around 500,000, which was was swallowed up, encircled, and forced to be relieved by sea almost instantly by the Germans.
It wasn't the snow that stopped the Germans yes it did cause issues but it wasn't enough to stop them what really stopped them was the fact that they were running out of oil for their planes and tanks and armored vehicles and they were running out of men to operate them.
This video is proof while the Canadians are probably the nicest people in the world but don't F with them. Their national sport is centered around extreme violence despite being the nicest people on the planet.
D-Day was only possible because the Soviets were drawing western German troops to the east constantly. The war wasn't solely won by anyone. But the Eastern Front and D-Day played a crucial role in Europe's liberation
@@johnrode43 Politically it was actually really important, because if d day hadnt happened probably all of europe would be communist. Militaryily germany was gonna lose anyway, this just made it a little quicker

Honestly you speak to anyone with sense they’ll agree that not everyone who was a nazi was evil and not everyone in allies was a good guy

People overlook Britain in this error they were absolutely fundamental.
Do you mean *era*?
Tommy should watch Generation War (German title is Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter). It's an honest depiction of the german side during WW2.
I don't think he can watch a full 4 ½ hours of German movie production on stream
@@buggle6118 Could watch it at like 30 mins-hour at a time across four streams
He has, he's talked about it in this very video, though he refers to it with its german name's English translation. "Our mothers, our fathers"
