- The Goldfinch is a colourful small finch introduced to New Zealand from Europe in the 1860's and 1970's , now common throughout New Zealand . Their long , elaborate , canary-like song is a common sound especially in late summer .

No I don't, maybe he's looking around to see if anyone is impressed by his song ? .... Or maybe looking out for danger ?
Maybe broadcasting the song and also listening for replies?
Such sweet,comical little birds! They used to be kept in cages indoors, like canaries.
