Diblo Dibala biography
Yacomba Dibala alias Diblo Dibala, born in 1954 in Kisangani in the DRC, the homeland of the Baluba people, is one of the greatest African guitarists to exist. At the age of 6 Diblo moved to Kinshasa. Diblo became fascinated with the sounds of the guitar upon hearing them in his neighborhood. He first started at Vox Africa as a bassist before moving on to lead guitar.
At the age of 15, he was playing guitar in the great Franco's band TPOK. His first recording was Elidjo Motema (
In Kinshasa, Diblo continued to master his searing guitar chops with Ifanza, La Gait, Bana Mambo with Kanda Bongo Man and Bella Bella.
In 1979, Diblo left Kinshasa and landed in Brussels where he played a rental guitar and did the dishes to earn some money. He had a local group called Bana Less. In 1981, he reunited with Kanda Bongo Man and landed a recording contract with the Afro Rythmes label. The album was an immense sense and the two would become a dynamic duo throughout the early 1980s. Diblo also contributed to numerous sessions on the African Diaspora scene.
In the mid-1980s, Diblo left Kanda to create Loketo with singer Aurlus Mabele.

Wow! I saw him at the old SOB’s in downtown NYC and photographed the show. I saw him later at another show and showed him my stuff. He chose one and used it for his Mechant Garçon album!
