You're not being whiny. The battery tray is bullshit. One of the key things I was excited about was not having to carve up the shell for Lipos anymore.
Good alternative from Worker for the same $30 that buys a current production Modulus Stryfe. Of course, the real reason for the product is the assurance that Worker can continuously sell their large catalog of Stryfe dress up kits, which is a sizable chunk of their business, rather than be at the mercy of Hasbro who decides when, where, how much and how long they wish to produce and distribute the Stryfe.
You need to add motor braking to the Pusher motor on the full auto kit by adding a wire from negative on the battery to normally closed on the rev switch

You can apply Motor braking to the pusher motor in the full auto kit. I reccomend watching MTBs Rapidstrike overhaul video because their circuit applys motor braking into the pusher

Firstly, there is indeed a barrel attachment adapter that makes all of worker barrels compatible 'Worker Straight Cutting Type Interface Module'. Not surprised people don't know about it, it came out before the swordfish shell did and totally made no sense.... until now. Secondly, I installed the full-auto and also had problems with the firing but you didn't explain exactly what the problem was. There are two different configurations to have a switch cut-off the firing "immediately" on trigger release, but that wasn't my problem: my dart pusher was not moving back quickly enough to depress my switch located back of the pusher before the auto-gear contacted it for the next cycle, and this caused my runaway firing. I'm wondering if this is what you're getting too. For the moment I tuned down the ROF via the ROF adjuster on the PCB using a micro screwdriver, which solved the the problem but now my ROF is only slightly higher than a stock RS, which is kinda disappointing.
