Moose and Wolfs pulling out trail stakes

In our area, moose are either displaying curiosity or animosity towards the trail markers. Interestingly, three markers in a row were discovered to be down. Additionally, a Wisconsin resident reported that the trail was abundant with wolf tracks and 11 markers in a row had been pulled out by them. Does this behavior stem from curiosity or territoriality?
