For the anti twist stuff you can't really twist it as it tends to want to fight, guess that's why they call it anti twist. For that a light hammer and squaring the billet is how I do it.
I don't want to degrade your efforts at forging, as you are at least trying to do things the right way. Not like others that cut a knife shape out of metal and proceed to sharpen it and claim they forged a knife. That being said, the next time you forge a piece of cable like that, it might be a good idea to take the time to make sure that it is as clean as you can get it, you could soak it in solvent, then polish as much of the rust off as possible. As dirt and rust are the enemy of a solid forge weld. Thank you
Thanks for watching Glenn. The forging techniques demonstrated were developed from years of experience and a couple thousand cable Damascus knives. If one feels that they need to clean a piece of cable, I don't degrade them for it. While I wouldn't recommend doing this with extensive corrosion the failure rate is next to zero. The video was done to show one doesn't need to spend a lot of time cleaning to get a billet of cable to weld up. A lot of that comes from experience.
@@jamesmcclendon1203 I believe you. After watching Smith's in India forging Damascus, it's hard to believe that flux has much to do with it, as they don't clean JACK or shit from metal before forging!
EXCELLENT!!
Excellent technique and easy to watch the video!
I learned very much from this.
thanks you!
Great job!!! Nice work as always!
I learned a lot watching this thank you very much
Awesome work! Would you know where I could search for 1” cable? I’m coming up short
Loggers and crane companies for used stuff. I'll buy new cable from my local steel supplier.
I must have the counter twist kind its high carbon stuff but dont work very easy

Working with cable is addictive. It's one of my favorite things to work with.
Cool!
Nice
what the name white powder?
That is borax, specifically 20 Mule Team Borax. Now I mix a little ground charcoal at about 5 parts borax to 1 part charcoal for cable and only cable.
works well to weld 5160 to itself as well
