    Wait, wait, wait...
    There's a huge difference between donating money to a band and video game loot boxes. There former happens all the time. There are SO MANY musicians here on RUclips that have Patreon accounts where you can do exactly that. You see where the money goes and those who donate are rewarded accordingly.
    Loot boxes, however, are actual robbery. NOBODY who plays video games want them there. At all. They only sell so well because they not only play to people's addictive tendencies, but most of the time, gamers are strongarmed into buying them.
    That was a terrible comparison, man.

      @@TheKe7en "Not keeping up with the times"? I... don't understand what you mean by that...
      But of course you can get scammed through Patreon. Scams can happen anywhere. However, if you find an artist's Patreon page, chances are that you know enough about that person to see whether or not your money will go where you want it.
      But there are no positives about loot boxes. Absolutely all of them are designed to steal from gamers. Literally, no game is made better with loot boxes, no gamer wants them in their games.

    That is actually a brilliant idea. Hell, I have seen Venues (show location and show adjacent sites), ticket sellers, and other bands charge $200-$300 for a “meet and greet”, not even a true VIP experience. Some bands, that’s a “fair” amount, but they are not seeing half of that money. I’m all for bands getting their a majority of their worth, so them doing a fan club service is cool with me, you don’t have to buy it. I remember when Spineshank did their reunion tour in 2011, they came to a small town in Nebraska, and only 50 people showed up. They were nothing but awesome. They invited me to stay and hangout. I thought it would be 10 minutes (if I was lucky), I was there two hours. I ended up buying them all a round of drinks and they invited me backstage when they came back through 8 months later. I sucks to think a band is trying to offer an experience (yes, a paid one) and a few butt hurts ruin it for those that would be down.

    I understand. They put something out there without completely thinking it through. Look at it as getting one lump sum from your fan base to basically buy in and never have to spend another dime. Its a good idea but it should have a higher buy in rate. Guest list needs to be thought through thoroughly. The guest list could be used to advantage if you utilize it right. It would be a way to almost guarantee a good turn out if all buy ins showed for the show. Financially it would be a great idea. It should be done at the beginning of every Personal Emmure Tour. It would be a good way to get up funds for the potential tour. It would be a good way to gauge the potential success for the tour as well. It leaves room to make adjustments to ensure the tours success.

    Emmure is playing with After the Burial and As I Lay Dying on the Shaped By Fire tour. I think this might be what you was referring to.
    Also, as far as the $100 for VIP passes/membership, who cares? If a fan is happy and they want to pay for that, then that should be between the band and the fan. People need to pay for shit and money can be tight! The experience of seeing/meeting your favorite bands is unlike any other high. I met Frankie so many years ago in Cleveland, Ohio. I bought 2 self/titled Emmure CDs, one to leave sealed and signed, the other opened to listen to. When the sealed CD got around to Frankie he flagged me down and was like "Hey your not gonna sell this on eBay, is you?" I said "no lol" he said "well how are you going to listen to it, it's still sealed?" I pulled the opened copy out of my pocket, and his jaw dropped! He goes "man, we need more people like you in the music scene!" (Alas, I did time, and all my stuff was stolen/destroyed. I had a tub of unopened/signed CDs like that. It hurts to think about it. It was like 11 years ago.) I plan on going to see the Shaped by fire tour soon. If I get a chance to say hi to them or As I Lay Dying or after the burial I'll let you know!

    I think the fact that they were targeting fanatics of the band (aka: people most likely to give them money without asking questions) and individually soliciting "donations" from them via direct message instead of posting something publicly for everyone to see was the sketchy part. I don't know whether this went on long enough to see whether or not the band actually followed through with what they were promising to those who gave them the money, but the fact that they were calling it a "donation" rather than a "subscription fee" is sort of a legal loophole that essentially means "you're giving us money out of the goodness of your heart and we technically don't guarantee to owe you anything in return." The only thing they were guaranteeing was to be signed up for a mailing list. Everything else was deemed "accessible" to those who paid; meaning that, yeah, they would be able to have the ability to "access" the VIP merch & guest list spots that others wouldn't, but there could be an additional fee or some other commitment in order to actually get it. So I can see why this got backlash.

    i agree with everything Brian said here. There's nothing weird about fans paying $100 for VIP perks or whatever and don't certainly don't think Frankie is outright trying to scam people. However, there is something strange about privately soliciting donations without any sort of transparency. Those who pay for video game extras get their goods immediately. There's no guarantee that people who send $100 would ever get anything. If they did, it would be a great deal, for sure. The approach here was awkward and I can't imagine Frankie didn't anticipate any sort of blowback. Long live Emmure.

    It sounds like it’s more about the method of advertising, not the reason. Sounds like a good idea, but I think making a video to post on all the social media’s would have been received better?

    Frankie is the most vilified dude in metalcore. It’s ridiculous. The dude cares about his fans. He’s done edgy stuff, but he’s not gonna fuck over the people who support him

    I am completely 100 percent in agreeable with what he just said. There are some really talented artists in rock and metal walking away from the industry or who have been fearful to show any of their secretive creations in fear of. Being ridiculed and torn apart over money. But of course you need that money to get new gear, you get to keep metaling, you get to play guitar.

  • @FirestarHart

    Man, people have a hard time parting with just $1 Dollar nowadays. I have personal experience with this, because at my current stage in my Content Creating Career, I’m at the mercy of my audience more than ever. And here’s the thing, if 200 people were to donate $1 Dollar to the Content Creators they watch, that’s $200 Dollars for the Content Creator. Nobody’s asking people to break the bank, they’re asking for their audience for support so they can keep making a living providing entertainment to said audience.

    I don't see what Frankie has done wrong here. For $100 he's offering something which by the looks of it over time would cost way more. It's completely ridiculous that this was deemed a scam. I'm not a huge emmure fan by any means but of the fans want to pay this and get this access then why shouldn't he bring in a business model for it?

  • @gargantus5
    @gargantus5 4 года назад

    Totally agree with you metal musicians now are living off of scraps and I don't believe there is anything wrong with them offering a premium experience if the party is willing to pay for it.. Makes you wonder how much of that negativity was pushed via the music industry being upset because they were unable to get something out of it...

    Probably some people all up in arms who decided to 'hate' on them just like people do with their music. I've spent over $2k buying rare stuff from one of my favorite bands, I see no reason why spending $100 on a VIP experience would be a problem.

  • @NealBones
    @NealBones 4 года назад

    So 100 bucks for(from what I gathered) free tickets for multiple shows, VIP status at the venues, and free/exclusive merch, is somehow worse than 150 for a one time VIP at a show?
