  • Turns out that it's just as easy for greedy developers and unscrupulous condominium association boards to force you out of your home even if you own it. Slum conditions are not something that only tenants must endure. Residents of the Ridgecrest Condominium in DC's Ward 7 are fighting back. For more information go to gofund.me/c7f956a7

That building looks like crap and is probably a hazard to residents health both from the mold and the asbestos/lead I'm assuming it's made from. It should be torn down. Being anti-development helps gentrification. You need continuous new housing supply to drive down rents for older units and have a running supply of new units so that the new units turn into old units in 20 years time. If you don't want gentrifiers coming into the neighborhood just hold home buyers interviews for perspective tenants once you establish a co-op. Keeping the neighborhood ugly will only attract crime and poverty by driving out families that have become more successful. I suggest talking to a real estate developer directly about building a bigger apartment complex so that the sale of additional units can pay for the construction costs and renting out other units while the building is being constructed. It might be too hard to do in this economy since we have Democrat level interest rates right now. But when it goes down again it's something to consider.

You have no right to live in a building in perpetuity as renter. If you want to be guaranteed to not have to move you have to own. You don’t get to have both the flexibility of renting and permanence of owning.
This place is disgusting, borderline unlivable, a prime example of a place that needs to be renovated or town down.
