Hey guys. I like Derry Girls, I think it is awesome. I really recommend Anne with an E. It is so so so GOOD! I wasn’t interested when I heard about it at first but I am obsessed with it. It is so good! Btw thank you for all your reactions, they are awesome!
Fun fact, the actresses that play Erin and Michelle are actually from Derry and they talk just like in the show, so their accents are genuine. It's such a cool accent and also kudos to the rest of the cast for getting it perfectly.
@@meliprincexx_peach they didn't go through the troubles 😂 they were born at the tail end of it. The girls are all younger than myself and I wouldn't consider myself to have lived through the troubles.
there's about 100 different accents in every small town within every city and every county of ireland. we have possibly the most diverse accents which can range from really mild to really strong. the accents really do sound like this in derry lol - the further up north you go, the crazier the accent gets
Yes that is a genuine Derry accent, Derry is a City not a small town and is in Northern Ireland (which is why it’s pounds not euros). The Northern Irish accent is quite thick and harsh and like the republic of Ireland, changes every 5 miles. They aren’t playing it up if anything they are playing it down. You should listen to Jamie Dornan speak in interviews, he’s from Belfast in Northern Ireland and has a slightly different NI accent 😊 also highly recommend watching the movie Belfast, it gives you a wee bit of context 😊 great reaction as always x
Derry Girls is written my a woman from Derry. The stories and the characters are based of real events that the writers Mother told her. Erin is portraying the writer mum and Claire, Oral, Michelle, James are portraying her mother’s friends in real life. And Fun fact Michelle is portraying my cousin Ciara and yes she is actually that crazy, it’s fun watching the show with her and having her actually explain what happened in real life. She gets a lot of second hand embarrassment lol. And the actor Jamie-Lee (Michelle) used to be my old gymnastics instructor she’s actually really sound in real life lol.
Sister Michael is a legend! I love her! If y'all don't know the history of what was going on in Ireland during this time I encourage y'all to perhaps look into their very violent landscape at the time. I'm old enough that I remember what was going on during that time and even as an American I was horrified by what was happening. The fact that they could make such a funny show during the backdrop of such a violent time in Ireland's history is just genius. Loved y'alls reactions.
They live in Northern Ireland (part of the U.K.) and the accents there are different from those in Ireland (in the south.) Their accents can often be similar to some Scottish accents, and the slang is often specific to the North. Watch the show again, and pay close attention to the subtitles - after a few more episodes, you kind of get in the rhythm of it, and it becomes easier to understand. Grandad Joe often knows where everyone is from by the subtle differences in their accent and vocabulary. Da Gerry is from the south and has a slightly softer accent.
Colm is so funny. If you actually listen to the stories he tells, he's one of the most interesting characters, but he tells them in a way that makes him seem like he's the most monotonous, boring man alive.
This is set in Northern Ireland. The Northern Irish accent is different to an Irish accent. It is broader/stronger, sometimes a bit more nasal. So yes, these accents are accurate - they are not being played up/exaggerated.
„Feel like she’s younger than she should have been“ meanwhile the actress for Jenny Joyce is turning 35 this year 😂. And she was already in her 30‘s when Derry girls was produced
I have a friend from Derry who has been in the states for years, the accents are legit. I've met seven of his sisters, theirs are thicker, being they still live there.
I believe Erin is actually from Derry and the others are Irish but they had to learn the Derry accents. I think the nun is also from Derry but I could be wrong.
When i was in high school we went to Derry in an international exchange program. It was my first time being in an English speaking country and i felt so stupid for not being able to understand a word they said hahaha
Apparently yes, the stuff from a chippie in Ireland is incredibly greasy and should make you feel sick. But they just eat it anyway because......chippie on Friday's just what's done. And apparently it just is better than pizza.
10:10 Wait till season 2 when you meet her mum, then come and tell me you'd be able to lie to her. Plus, I don't have much experience, but I get the feeling that most of the time its near impossible to lie to or say 'no' to a nun
I lived in Galway for a couple of months and when I visited Derry/Northern Ireland their accents were definitely much thicker. They’re known for having the accent that’s the hardest to understand just because it is so thick.
@@joc7996 no I think SATs are in your final year yea? So SATs would be like A-levels in Northern Ireland. GCSEs are taken in your 11th and 12th years of education (when you are 15-16 years old). Hope that helps x
@@laurajaynenolan2149 yes, GCSE for final year in secondary school then GCE AS and A Levels for entry to university. Is it true SATs in the US are multiple choice questions? I remember having courseworks on top of exams for A Levels.
Dude I looked up there ages because Erin in close ups looks older, and they average between 29 and 36. I know that the Moaning Myrtle actress was in Bridget Jone’s Diary. If you have not watched yet, sorry did not check, I would recommend all 3.
If anything these girls are talking slightly more clearly with slightly less extreme accents than you often hear in NI. If they spoke as fast and thick as people in Derry really do I think we’d all struggle to understand.
I know you guys just started this new show but I thought you guys would enjoy watching Cobra Kai maybe one day. You don't necessarily have to watch the Karate Kid movies cause they give so many flashbacks but it's more fun to watch them before the show.
4:46 Rumour has it no man from Derry will every approve of any man his daughter brings home, doesn't matter if it's one date, if they've been dating for a year, if they're about to get married or have been married for 20 years, he'll never give his approval
Hey.. would love to see you guys reacting to .. NEXT FRIDAY - THE SECOND OF THREE MOVIES THAT FRIDAY HAS .. AND .. FRIDAY AFTER NEXT THE THIRD MOVIE..THESE ARE A LITTLE MORE COMEDIC THAN THE FIRST ...ALSO ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS ... THANKS AGAIN.. KEEP UP THE GREAT CONTENT...
I love his character! He’s very familiar, most people in the UK know someone like him. Took me three episodes to realise he was Barristan Selmy in Thrones…🙄🤣

Born and raised in Derry, I met Michelle 4 times, twice in the chip shop and twice out shopping. Have a picture with her too.
Claire, the walking panic attack😊
*cack attack 🤣
"I'm not a craic killer."
@@jholmes553 I AM NOT A CRAIC KILLER!
Bruh, Erin's crazy facial expressions are what make the show for me, she's hilarious!
Totally agree haha
Agreed! Also Claire’s random bouts of hysteria 😂😂 theyre all so good
So happy you are noticing Orla, Bryce. She is hilarious!
ORLA 🤘
Orla is adorable.
I love her so much, I'm glad she's gonna be noticed by Bryce throughout their reactions bcs she's kind of underrated
Orla is my favorite

I love this hahaha thankyou
This show is so Insane and chaotic and I love every minute of it lmao
I am surprised you guys caught on Orla being chaotic in the background. I love girls and parents but she’s my fav because of that😂
Apparently there's at least one person like Colm in every family in Northern Ireland. And probably in the Republic of Ireland as well.
100% can confirm!

In the 90s, the Rep. of Ireland used pounds too, the Irish pound. The Euro doesn't get adopted until 2002
@@Loweene_Ancalimon yea I still have some punts to this day haha I used to love going down south for a couple of days with a wee bag of punts 😂😊
I’m not sure if you guys caught it but when the chippy caught fire, you can find Orla trying to blow out the fire lol

Moaning Myrtle was in her 30's when she appeared in Harry Potter.
If she did appear in Derry Girls she would be about 53 yrs old. lol
And the actress really looks more like Aunt Sarah.
also moaning myrtle has a Scottish accent not Irish. 😂
I love their slow motion group walking scenes.
Colm is so funny. If you actually listen to the stories he tells, he's one of the most interesting characters, but he tells them in a way that makes him seem like he's the most monotonous, boring man alive.
My dads from Derry so this series holds a special place in my heart lol! Such a great show
Ik i keep saying this, but I really hope you guys google a bit of the troubles to enjoy the show more!

6:40 it has nothing to do with him being english. Chippy culture is huge across britain same as in Ireland

Sister Michael (Siobhán McSweeney) is from Cork, and Nichola Coughlan is from Galway.

We appreciate your dedication and commitment. God bless you.
This show takes place during the Troubles in Northern Ireland in the 90s, I really recommend doing some research on the conflict as you watch

Orla is my favorite!!! and she as an actress has rangeeeeeeee
