Well Rob since they came from Hawaii most flights to the inland leave San Francisco. Alot don't make it back. And it's been that way for long time. So if you're looking for S minted pennies you went to the right spot to look. Alaska is also a good place to look for Canadian coins. And wheat pennies cause a lot of pennies don't make the round trip.
Whenever I see boxes like these, I don't think collection dump, I think of some guy throwing all his change in a water cooler jug or big old barrel for his entire adult life, passing away at the age of 95, and then his kids or grandkids just take all that change to the bank.
I got 1,000 Wheaties last week in a dump... customer wrapped $40 worth... 22 rolls were 150-155 grams and 95% Wheaties. 50 were pre 1940... nothing exceptional except for an 1890 Indian. Only 3 S mints in all that. A lot of fun.
Wow!!! That was an AWESOME hunt. The other two bags I got from this bank had a total of 60 wheaties. Not even remotely close to what you got! Also, just wanted to point out a mistake - the pennie’s are from the island of Kauai, not Honolulu. Next time I’ll be there I make sure to send you a couple more bags! They’re always loaded with wheaties! Enjoy all those wheaties and that album is almost done!

Thanks for helping Rob make this hunt possible, really cool one!! I may now have ANOTHER reason to go add HI to the list of the final states I need to make it to LOL. Next road trip, I totally need to try to get a penny box in each state I drive through (which would have been 22 boxes last trip hehe).

As a fellow Hawaii collector, I can confirm that we get a ton of S & D cents. Most of our banks also don't give us boxes when we order rolls of coins, so we have to us bank bags or our own boxes. What an awesome collection dump!
Hey Rob, what an epic hunt brother! My recent hunt was eerily similar, you had 4 wheaties in the first roll, I had 4 wheaties in the entire box. You had a wheatie dump, I had a zinc dump. Crazy coincidence right!? Sorry you didn't score any pre-40s, but hey 209 wheaties - can't get mad at that! Keep it up brother!!
This is why west coast boxes are really good. Just like Hawaii, I find a lot of s and d minted wheat cents. Hoping to find some semi key or key s and d cents one day lol. I’d definitely get some more from the west coast since you need older cents with mint marks if you can. But nice hunt. Always fun seeing a collection dump every once in a while. Congrats rob

I am new at this hobby....but...i got my FIRST Collection Dump hunt last week...$10.00 worth of pennies...ALL LINCOLNS and Wheaties....95 percent " S mint marks!" Some nice coins for sure!! Keep ON HUNTIN, FOLKS!!
Great hunt! You mentioned you were going to "wipe away" the crud on a mint mark. Can you do a video showing how to do that? I just got 33 wheat rolls from an antique store and they are all sticky and filthy!
@bethgracehallmark2219 I've never had any issues with it personally, but I've never had any coins graded. Hence why I would like to hear others input. Now, I don't douse the coins in it. I typically use a Qtip and lightly moisten and dab the trouble spots

Assuming you checked, would love to know how many '68-'74-S Cu pennies altogether? I know you don't focus on those, but I saw some REAL nice memorials among your fingering through, which is cool, since all those are almost 15y old already. More wheats just in the FIRST box than there are elements on the periodic table, can't get mad at that. If you ever do HI pennies again, you might have to make it a live event. >>;=) You definitely could tell somebody dumped them to the bank after weeding out pre-'40, since these specific years only were found. Good finds Rob! I found an interesting 1989 zinc penny the whole "IN GOD WE TRUST" Is missing also the L from liberty and the 9 from the 1989. I have a video on my channel when I found this penny in a coin roll. Can someone check it out and tell me if it's an error or just somebody messed with that penny?

The late 40s S minted wheat pennies are somewhat of a lower mintage. 49 S only had 64.2 million minted. 47 S and 48 S also have under 100 million minted

Well then I might expect more 56 to 58 dates and a lot more 59 to 81 copper.
Those are just his pennies. What happened to the nickels,dimes ,quarters,half dollars and dollar coins.

It’s possible that Hawaii gets a limited supply of fresh coins and the same older ones just circulate for decades. Or maybe not!

Every 40's & 50's S mints were in there including the better date last year Wheat 1955-S except of course the 1943-S steel cent!

I personally would use acetone, but curious what others would suggest

When I saw the video was almost 30 mins long, I knew there would be 50 wheaties, minimum. I wasn't expecting 50 in the first 25 rolls.

I could be that they "dumped" their 40's and 50's, as those will accumulate very fast when roll hunting.

How are you able to get so many bank rolled coins? The Wells Fargos near me only have customer rolled which are often short, or picked through.
So many wheaties, especially the S-mints. Did the person in Hawaii tell you which bank they came from? Maybe you and he can do another trade.

those were salted. about 2 rolls worth. condition proves not from general circulation, jug "finds" also contain older coins.
