never seen anyone so salty about a condition they think with some probability is misdiagnosed and the science isn’t settled. It’s still called IT band syndrome, relax, get over yourself
He’s a loser
Wow. You open the video talking about how stupid your patients are and how annoying you find it when they try to understand physiology for themselves. "I have runners that come in ... I'm not knocking any of them ..." Actually, that's exactly what you're doing. You're the professional. Got it. Maybe try explaining the material in an accessible way. Your content is rapid-fire and your visuals are barely visible. This could have been a really useful video.
G G constructive criticism, or just criticism. Hard to tell through the non-contextual basis of a YT comment. I’ll take the benefit of a doubt, and say you are trying to help.
Do you need your hand held at all your visits to the doctor? Take the holistic approach and watch a dozen or more of his videos and try to absorb his many nuggets of wisdom/expertise through HIS teaching style without worrying so much about your psyche. I've learned more about my own physical shortcomings in the past hour watching his videos than I did on my last two expensive visits to an orthopedist. This is gold...and it's free, so dial back your sensitivity.
Yeah this guy is a total tool
Provides no useful information on how to go about fixing the problem-no solutions given. 🤡
Sorry you didn't get a 'fix' off a free RUclips video, next time you or a family member has a health issue be sure to head to RUclips or Google to 'fix' it. Concepts and conversations are ammunition for the medical encounters we have once in the arena.

@@chirofarmnot a real professional response there…. When a physio says “I don’t know… whatever”. When giving advice it detracts from the message. The plastic wrap and spaghetti analogy was perfect. Also the insight about not further irritating the nerve with rolling. Would there be some effective stretches recommended for releasing some of the reassure there?
Just found this vid....I have pain that doesn’t match “IT Band irritation” because of its location....your explanation is the best I have found so far. My pain is awful when I start running and then improves as I get deeper into the run.....so maybe your explanation actually is my problem and the pain eases as things inside start moving “normally”.
Great stuff, doc! Dr. Clifford would be proud of your pronunciation of "dissection."
Thank you for this fresh perception, first time I hear this idea, would have been grateful for actual exercises or strategies to deal with this, had the problem for the last 2 years and NO ONE has helped me get over it yet :(
Gotta make a living, can’t give everything away for free. Yin can do a virtual consult if you like.
@@chirofarm That's fair ! Look, if you can help me heal from the injury I would gladly pay for your service, do you have a track record of people you helped get over this "ITB syndrome"? In quotes since you're saying it's not the IT band hahaha
And not only pay for your service I will also remember you forever and be your evangelist if ever I come in contact with someone else with an ITB syndrome...
@@chirofarmhi how can I get a virtual consultation for the same issue as stated in the video?
Yeah so no way to fix it. Waste of 5 minutes
Awesome, looking to RUclips to 'fix' your issues. How about you get educated, weaponize that education when you go to physician in your area, actually get a an EXAM. Then make an EDUCATED decision on whether that practitioner is going to help you or not. Your internet fix does not exist, so take ownership over your own body and appreciate the education you receive, rather than whining about some magic bullet stretch or drill not fixing your booboo. #snowflake

So…pinch the skin on the outside of the knee and pull it away?? Let us know, hotshot.
So my pain is in the knee after I’ve been walking for a while. When trying to bend the pain in my knee is around an 8. Would that be irritating the (it band) area? I’ve been working on PT for about a year now and it keeps falling back into pain. I have an appointment upcoming but I want to know if there is anything I can do to get some relief before then?
Things it could be: Bursa inflamed, irritated nerves in fat pad, could be different nearby muscle or tendon(popliteus), could even be referred pain from higher up, lateral meniscus, distal hamstring attachments, other, maybe closer to skin for some. It's not the patients fault, it's usually the doctors and physio or even the literature that label everything there as IT band.
I have pain along the lateral side and aching deep in my hip/upper thigh but only when laying down on my side, could any of those cause this?
@@elizabethw.454 doubt it. Sounds like a hip joint issue. Just guessing . You have to find a good doctor to figure it out. Good luck!
@@qigong1001 thank you
Thanks a lot for that!
I’ve been having pain right next to my right knee after running a little too early and to eagerly after a marathon. The pain always starts after 6 or so miles and disappears within minutes after a run.
I wear a compressing knee bandage for now and I purposefully work on my knee stability, glute strength, hip flexors, mobility and most importantly on my running technique. No foam rolling. I worked by way up to running pain free with the bandage, without the bandage I walk pain free and I can do little sprints to the trains pain free too, I’m still keeping it on for regular runs as a precaution but going against all that foam rolling and other tips that are out there meant actual progress for the first time for me.
Saw your comment and I’m going through the same issue right now. I’m training for a marathon and ran too much too quickly. I stopped running for 2 to 3 weeks and foam rolling and stretches for the IT band. Do you recommend any bandages as it seemed to work for you. Anything particular you did or currently doing that helped?
My it band is visible and feels popped out, all the way down my leg to my ankle starting from above the knee. pain and tightnees behind my knees wheen standing. my ankles arent right and i have hip pain and groin pain. Anyone eles same symptoms? My glutes and thighs are also weak. Please help anyonee
Was the point of this video to mock people who say they "have IT Band issues" or to confuse everyone who has problems with their IT Band? Most people say they have IT Band issues because a doctor or therapist told them they do....and one of the biggest problems is that there is no general consensus about cause and treatment but mocking people really doesn't help and it's totally unprofessional.
So I had an injury in a basketball game where my knee gave out/shot forward when I landed I felt the pain down the center of my knee and then moved to under my knee cap. Once I started walking on in again it hurt around the back/side of the knee right around the band in the area you circled. I got an MRI that was pretty inconclusive but they said there may be a small tear in my IT Band. It has now been a few months and I feel pain in that area you circled from standing for a long period of time or really from anything, but it is most severe from long stretches of standing or doing physical activities. By the end of the day nearly everyday I am in a pain that is kind of an achy/sharp/sore pain. It's been bothering me so much and hasn't really gotten any better so I've done some research and it's led me to believe this could be the answer. I also have a very bad knee injury history on my dad's side of the family. So I was just wondering your thoughts. Thanks
I offer Virtual consult Latinos for this type of in-depth analysis. www.chirofarm.com/virtual-consult
Oh my god! This is almost exactly my story! I went in to Physical Therapy and they started foam roller crap on me, which hurt like hell, I’m not going to do that to myself. So I ignored it for a few years then went back to a different physical therapist and we worked on strengthening the muscles that support the knee and that’s what got me back.
Very informative. Could having an imbalance in your gate/walk as you compensate for another issue could cause this irritation?
This explains why when i use KT tape i feel relief from this type of pain.
This is where Neuromovement comes in. Learning to move in variations to change the habitual patterns that create issues.
This is why I wasn’t sure if I had itbs, felt the usual pain on the lateral knee but also above the kneecap in the muscle that meets the it band, so I thought it was just a very inflammed tissue. The problem is that it persists even after a month.. what do I do? Thanks

@@pelinpolat5067 the pain went away after 6 weeks or so, although I haven't been cycling in a long time (which is what I thought provoked it)
Thank you. Great info. This is definitely the first time I have heard this term. After 5 months of dealing with an injury no one has suggested this is something that could be ruled in or ruled out. The initial problem healed over a month ago, but this pain was different and it has lingered. That is exactly where I am experiencing the pain (and pulling sensation). Anyhow, at least I am now armed with more knowledge. And can better explain to my chiro the issue I am dealing with.
Did you figure ever figure our your issue. I'm having the same pain and pulling feeling
I am confused if I have IT band syndrom or statica because not only I have pain on my hip to knee pain but also lower back pain, ofcourse doctor said I have IT band syndrome but question is I dont run nor Bicycle, I only walk so I dont hit the 30 degree angle to have IT band syndrome, I believe it has to do with nerves issues, should I get antiinflammation injection as more than 30 minute walk is becoming a real pain for me.
Sorry I don’t give medical advice via this.
did u get better?
@@pelinpolat5067 started working on hip mobility and resistance training for glutes, getting better
@erickhoustonian hi do you have any recommendations for videos for hip mobility exercises please ?
i have the same annoyance when patients say "i have tmj". we all have tmj/temporal mandibular joint... you mean "tmd"
what can you do to correct? my tissue is crunchy in outside of quad when i press on it; lots of scar tissue i guess?
The outside of my right knee gets inflamed when i apply resistance to it. For example imagine going downstairs, the moment when all the weight is on the right leg. Or imagine running downhill and you try to constantly slow down. That's the "negative force" i am talking about.
I could hike uphill forever, but would only last 5 min downhill.
Does it sound like IT band syndrome?
I am seeking any adivice. Diagnised itbs, big swollen lump on outside of knee with bone marrow oedema. 9 months now, 5 weeks off work in there. Done physio, cortisone injection and massage. Swelling wont go away and gets worse with any activity. Seems to be a beast of its own. Any ideas??
During my THR my LCFN was damaged. The numbness goes down to the side of the knee. Would the pain I am feeling most likely be from this nerve damage or from the trauma of the surgery: damaged IT Band?
hi i have been dianosed with it band symdrone as well as a snapping hip. ive beene experiencing bilateral hip pain - starting with snapping then burning deep pain in my hips are cracking (painful) joints. doc said to stretch the it band but the band isnt even a strenchable tendon. any advice/tips/videos/any help that you could provide and help me out will really help me. i am losing hope as ive been expericing this for 3 years i am in my early teens. no injury to my hips happneed

Brilliant! Thank you so much for taking the time to share this much needed info❣️In fact, I have been having excruciating pain exactly in the area you mention and after trying all of the exercise treatment for IT band without any relief I on my own thought to grab the tissue and pull on it while walking or going down steps mainly bcuz it hurts and noticed it seemed to relieve the pain. Your video completely explains why and validates to keep doing it. Granted I look silly grabbing and pulling the tissue with one hand while walking but I’ll keep it up anyway and work knee stability. Your video helps me to know I’m on the right track where no other doctor on this channel speaks to this in my research of the last 2 years. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

You're awesome getting to the root of the problem and not dropping names about pain. I'm glad I found your content; your newest fan, thanks!

Can this be due to weak glutes or Quad weakness ??
Awesome Beau! I need to come to the F.A.R.M. ASAP! Miss you guys! You are brilliant and crack me up - great work!!!!
I just found you. Very nice video. My wife had a bad fall onto her kneecap a number of years ago. The doctor did Meniscus surgery, then full knee replacement a number of years later, manipulations, Capsular relief and I'm probably forgetting something. The day after she had the replacement surgery she started having, what we were told was the IT Band issues (pain from her knee up the outside of the leg). All the doctors we talked to about the pain in her leg wanted to talk about the knee. No one has been able to diagnose it. She is past having therapy help IMO. You sound extremely knowledgeable and I was hoping you could point me in the right direction for a next step. Can the ITB be removed?
Thank you very much for your time
Thanks for watching. First of all, any patient deserves a world-class exam, so I don't give out advice without having seen them in person. That being said, as this video states there are numerous neurological structures around this area and while they do ITB releases I think they are archaic and unnecessary
. I hope you can find a great practitioner near you, if not come give us a visit at The FARM!

I was also diagnosed with IT band syndrome and I haven't believed it from day one. I'm curious though. My pain is centralized about 6 or 7" above the area you pointed out. The pain I experience is is throbbing or stabbing. I imagine this is what nerve pain would be described as.... I'm assuming our nerves run all the way up-and-down out legs, so is it possible pain would present itself to in a different position on the side of the leg?
I recently tried using a tens machine on my hip and the next day the pain was was pretty bad. Could this have been making it worse?
Lastly, is there any way any sort of imaging would be able to aid in the correct diagnosis of this problem if the doctor knew what he was looking for?
I appreciate any help you can give an answering my questions. Thanks for the info
