I saw a great idea in German neighborhoods. They set out tables full of stuff on the weekends with things people don’t want any more. Since a lot of people do it, it’s a great way to get what you want for free while getting rid of stuff you don’t want. Wish we had something like that in my neighborhood.

In my apartment complex, we bring pantry items we don’t want to the laundry room where they set up a “pantry” area. You can donate or take what you need. A lot of residents will use it.

Glass is best for storage. Doesn't transfer odors, easy to clean/sterilize and you can see exactly what's inside. I too repurpose large glass sauce jars, you've already paid for jar so reuse it.

Girl you ROCK! I love that you are budget conscience. Your pantry is beautiful. A year ago we moved from Colorado to Arizona. Over the last year I've worked on really going through everything as I unpack each room and organize each closet and cupboard and space. As of this last weekend I have officially gotten rid/donated/thrown away 40 yes, 40 large size moving boxes full of "stuff" along with over 20 garbage bags full of clothes. I can't believe I've held onto all that stuff! I can breathe. I can clean faster. I have room for the things I LOVE and truly enjoy! I absolutely love decluttering and being more minimal. I have loved watching all your decluttering and organizing progress. It's inspiration and motivating.

I have been thinking about adding shelving to the wall opposite of our washer and dryer for a pantry and this is seriously motivating! Everyone uses our back door to enter our home and the laundry room is right off of that small hallway so it’s immediately seen. I would love to have an aesthetically pleasing yet functional pantry. Right now our lazy Susan cabinet is our “pantry” for dried goods. I have watched all of the other videos in your messy to minimal and your other cleaning routine videos etc. and I just love the motivation, satisfying results, and coziness of each of your videos. 🥞😄 I grew up with a mother who really valued having a clean and organized home so that was something we always did together so this is so enjoyable for me to watch and be inspired when I’m not feeling up to it!

I repurposed 1 gallon Crystal Geyser Alpine water bottles as grain storage in my working pantry. They are clear, their labels come off very easily, their handles DON'T come off easily and are very convenient, their tall square shape is ideal to avoid wasted space and they're very durable and actually an attractive way to display grains in my cabinet. They're perfect for various kinds of rice, lentils, wheat berries, quinoa, barley, etc. Even small beans like black beans or small white beans. The hardest thing was finding a funnel that would fit into the neck of the jug but was not to narrow to let the grains flow through; I had to adapt a canning funnel to narrow it a bit to serve the purpose.
I like their lighter weight (compared to glass jars), the ease of carrying by the handle, the ease of pouring out grains, and that their total footprint in my cabinet is 5" x 5" each -- about the space that a half-gallon Mason jar would take (they're 4.4" x 4.4") but the water jugs hold twice as much.

I would imagine daily life with the door on the pantry/laundry might be a bit of a pain (for me). Keep in mind if it does bug you, you could hang a beautiful curtain and keep it tied to one side most of the time, and it would mostly block the sight line to the dryer

What a lovely job! One small tip for the future, to remove the door, grab a hammer and screwdriver and pop out the pins in the door hinge--much easier than unscrewing the hinge (3 pins vs ???screws). The pins are on the top of the hinge (backside of door). Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the crack at the top of the hinge and gently (or emphatically) tap into the crack which raises the pin.

    • @Acehazen

I guess here in the UK most people don't have pantries so don't really have the space for stocking up! My kitchen has about the same storage as yours so without a pantry for overflow getting everything in is interesting! We've just put up some cute overflow shelves in the kitchen and I'm slowly buying glass jars to pop on those with stuff that is aesthetically pleasing but I don't reach for everyday 🙂

What I Never see addressed are these three points. First, people always seem to add new on top of the old which is a problem. Second, does it make the most sense to put the old/ current into a separate container, then to add the old back on top? Third, what do you do with the rest of the bag. In other words, when I refresh the oatmeal container there’s often several cups left in the new bag. Where do people keep those things?

I have to put a LOT of stuff into glass jars--especially pasta, etc. I live in Florida and darn weevils are a real pain in the a**. They will chew right through plastic bags/cardboard boxes..Great idea for the old bed. I've got pieces of 2x4's, and I'm going to use them for staggered shelving! Great video..

Hi Natalie, I am so glad to see someone up-cycling and re-using things already owned instead of rushing to buy more stuff.
I started reorganizing my cabinets / pantry drawers over the last year. Initially I wanted to buy new containers. But I live in Greece and due to covid, stores have been either closed or open only for pick-up for many months. I was also reluctant on buying online because i didn't know the size of containers I would actually need. In the end, I rearranged my pantry items using mainly tomato sauce tall glass jars and espresso coffee airtight glass jars. And any other glass jar I had. My pantry is now super ergonomic and good looking.
I'm so happy for this, especially because the glass/plastic jars that companies use to store food are way better quality than random glass or plastic containers sold in stores.

With everything out of my brand new kitchen I am completely overwhelmed of where to put and organize things. The blank space is intimidating. One thing I Love Love Love is the fact that you show it being a work in progress. It may not be the perfect solution forever and until it is used, reworking with it and revisiting is ok.
