I was lucky enough to catch him a dozen times back in the 90s. Smaller venues, too. He crushed it every time without fail. Great playing, but also just a joyful person who loves what he’s doing. Sick band, too. Him, Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis? Ridiculous.
I woke up to this video on my FB feed today and it totally made my day. I've seen Maceo over 4 times in concert and he never dissappoints. There's a reason Prince took him on tour with him beause he's the funkiest saxophonist out there.
I'm really shocked there are any thumbs downs on this performance, the haters most likely have other more visceral motives for doing so that have nothing at all to do with music and that's a glaring shame, this is a real "throw-down" and the haters cannot feminist the greatness of this exceptional performance by Macro Parker, his chops and stamina alone get him a standing "O"!!!🎷🎨🧠✨👍💯
Back in 1998-99, I was privilaged to see Maceo and Fred Wesleys Band. It was in Santa Clara,CA. one night at a newly- opened venue. Large Club but only 20 or so people showed up. Maceo and Fred played like it was a full house for 3-1/2 hours and literally blew the lights out in the place. The GeriCurls and extra weight was long gone and Maceo once-again distanced himself from all other Alto Sax Masters in my opinion. I will remember that night forever.
Maceo, I remember seeing you perform with the legendary Mr. James Brown at the Howard Theater (circa 1964-1965). You are the grooviest!! Iris Rosenberg-Cooper of Manassas, Virginia. Did you, Mr. Maceo, ever perform at the Bohemian Caverns in D.C.
The Black man just can't help it!! He is the best in music, dance, singing, art, science, morals, character, and just the best man ever created!!! I will never apologize for telling the truth!!! The Blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice the Black man produce!!!
I want all to know that james brown could blow, pick a guitar, play an organ and drum.he chose to write and sing mostly but could jam the other instrument s also. That is why he could correct he other band members because he could play himself. He did get a rare find i maceo and Fred wesley.also Peewee ellis.
@@ramsfire Yes he would. And he would mostly suck. Sorry, but it has to be said, James Brown was an amazing dancer and amazing bandleader and amazing funk artist, but no, he was a mediocre instrumentalist at most.
It's called Soul Power 74, and was released in 1973 I think.. That's what my copy says and I believe its a first release.. Its a double A side single accredited to Maceo and the Macks..
Maceo is a national treasure, if you get a chance to see him you will be blessed.
I saw him (the (GOAT of funk) with the(GOAT of front men)Prince at the Meadowlands = greatest show ever!
❤

facts. James would sometimes jump on the.fender rhodes keyboard as a teser during some concerts.
