  • Agriculture and food account for about a quarter of all climate change-inducing greenhouse gas emissions. And with production methods becoming increasingly intensive, farmers are under scrutiny like never before. Now farming faces a big question: can it become more environmentally sustainable while continuing to feed a growing global population?

This article ignored am important part of the discussion and that is the advent of precision fermentation and the impact that will have on both dairy and meat farms in the future. Also I think there needs to be an important distinction made between the farmers lobby and the food lobby, i.e. those producing food to those who process it and sell it to us in supermarkets. The food lobby often likes to use the image of the farmer for their own gains and the media has allowed them to do so. If precision fermentation is as successful as some are now predicting, the gap between the interests of these two groups will deepen even further and which I fear will have devastating impacts for farmers everywhere. Governments need to be aware of this and help their agricultural sectors adapt.

How much emissions can be cut by not wearing new clothes, not using cars, not using bikes, not using phones, not drinking beer, wine? Tell me one thing that doesn’t make emissions

A 747 jet uses 30 gallons of fuel per minute to takeoff from the runway and approximately 25 g p m. In flight high above the clouds where the force of gravity is smaller therefore that co2 and emissions isn't diluted by the dampness of the clouds which in turn returns the carbon back to earth .this pollution from jets floats to the ozone layers. So why are the animals being blamed when their breathing is directly down to the ground where its consumed by the grass again quickly. How many cows would it take to create the same amount of pollution as 1 jet in 1minute

Are there any battery-powered tractors or combine harvesters? I suspect that's not possible, unless everything is grown in a greenhouse (heralding the end of bio-food as we know it). One solution is to close the farms - they are already trying that in parts of Europe. The result will be a huge increase in food prices (as we already see), followed by starvation, and then a war or two. That will be great for humanity and the environment.
But wait! The tiny CO2 increase has caused a massive boost to plant, tree and crop growth. Crop yields have never been so good! CO2 is actually good for the planet, we need more, not less CO2!
