Thanks rohan... Now if you have money to purchase only one, which one will you purchase and why? It could be your next video or just make it a simple answer, but tell us your personal opinion not which one is the best cause I know you will say it depends;)
Mostly because I’m used to it. I like the overall look and it’s fast. It has limitations but they don’t affect my work too much. I also use it in daz to make my fanarts so I like the skin shadin I can get in octane.
Thanks for your videos, they are all so useful! I was watching one about Renderman 24 and it turns out that it is much faster in Solaris compared to the legacy setup. Have you experienced anything like that with Octane, Vray, Arnold? By the way, have you started using Solaris? A guide to it, even a payed one, would be most helpful.
Thanks for the video Rohan! Wondering if you’ve found a way to create your own Octane lights in Houdini that allow you to look through them for placement via the viewport. I figure there’s something that needs to be configured in the type property interface, but I have yet to figure it out.
Top right corner of your viewport, where it says "No Cam" by default, there's a "Look Through Light" option. Select the light & lock the camera and you can use that to place your lights.
@@Anxhelo Arnold has no such limitations. It also has a GPU version inbuilt. You can also try Redshift, that also has a good integration into Houdini. But I would suggest waiting for a few more weeks. Houdini 20 is releasing in November and Karma XPU is look pretty good. You can look at the H20 sneak peek on the sidefx youtube channel.
Hello again, is it possible in Octane to randomize the rotation or offset of an texture? When you have a tilable texture, you see the pattern if the repetition is too high. In Blender for example i take a voronoi texture and put the output into the location-node from the mapping node. Is something else also possible in Houdini Octane`?
I have a free video on RUclips for it. That uses an OSL map. But you can also look at DISTORTED MESH UV node and the COLOR TO UV node. They both allow you to distort textures using other textures. The one you are looking for is the DISTORTED MESH UV.
I'm new to houdini, and I'm wondering if it is correct that when using octane, I can only use octane light and not normal area light? Also, I would like to use sun light with octane render, what should I do?
@@rohandalvi Thank you, I have learned that I can set hdri and sun in Octane Tender target. Thank you very much. My question is that I would like to use both hdri and sun. It seems that only one of them can be set in Octane Tender target.
@@rohandalvi Does that mean double-clicking on the Octane Render Target and changing the environment texture and daylight switch nodes in it so that I can use both?
Hello, for a few days now, when i use Octane Quicksetup, i only get a black render in the ipr also when i render it out. I tried to install a fresh hda as well as i reiinstalled houdini and octane. I also deleted the settings in the documents-folder. Always the same result. When i setup Octane manually as in your old tutorial, all works fine. Has anyone a idiea where the error could be?
@@rohandalvi Ok, i don`t know what ocio is, but i changed the whitepoint in the imager and it works. It seems the whitepoint can have any color than complete black. Thanks for the tip.
The free version will not be maintained by the original autor anymore and will not work in the latest versions of Octane Render. Only the commercial ODHoudiniShelfTools which includes an up-to-date and enhanced version of the QuickOctaneSetup and many other tools are maintained by another developer. ODHoudiniShelfTools is truly a must have.
The next version has full aces support. Right now it has support for aces but not at texture level. Next version, which is currently in beta, has aces support for textures as well.
What about displacement? I can't make it working, when i add material with displacement, object just disappear in ipr.

If Arnold gpu was faster and more stable, I might actually shift to Arnold. But right now for my current needs I'm happy with octane.

This vid is 2 years old now, but are those limitations on instancing and attributes updated?
Instance attributes are still not supported.

How about AMD Radeon™ ProRender for Houdini?
If I am not wrong Pro render only works in Solaris. I haven’t gotten into Solaris as yet, but I will look into it later.
Hi. It was helpful as always. How do you deal with rest position with noise ??
It doesn’t support rest position. It’s on their list of features for 2022.
@@rohandalvi really? So there’s no way to use noise displacement for animation?
@@TonysMind no. Unless you uv map the objects.

Hello,
can you show an example how to setup a scene to render hair in Octane? In my scene, the hair don´t show in the render, but in the viewport.
Go into object properties and turn on hair/curve render in the octane object properties

Octane has its own sun and sky system in the environment. Octane can only use its own lights, the standard Houdini lights don’t work.
