I'm a Nurse and have tons of distraught patients going through alot of circumstances in life. Pain, loss of loved ones, lack of family and attention, illness etc..., i just empathize and listen to how they feel and say, I'll see what I'm able to do. If i cannot help i notify the Charge Nurse🥰remember, we all are handling our own battles
I have a lot of patience....but I don't think I would be able to mentally handle this kind of treatment on a frequent basis.... Kudos to all the nurses everywhere you guys really have one of THE toughest jobs!
Being a nurse takes a lot of courage and responsibilities just be nice and know your duty because this profession is really tough and you have to be more patient to every patients that you're dealing and love them us your family. Serving others is like serving our lord.
Patients life’s at hospital, they depend on nurses and doctors, for sure, open all your heart help put 10000000%for them. But sometime we understand they are trouble maker patients. Get someone to deal with then right away
Being any type of hospital worker, whether that is a doctor, a nurse, or even a custodian, is a very hard job. I have a lot of friends who have experienced that where patients were rude to nurses and doctors.
Give respond with sweet smile and respect because they are patient, same time give more support and care with lots of love. I am sure no patients will never forget their hospital life in their entire life..
I always apologize and say let me look at your medications and see what I can do for you..and Then let her know I will call the Doctor if nothings due now❤️ It’s about making them feel like you care about their situation and pain..😘
Fortunately most of my nurses have been like the 2nd one. I've never considered the training it takes to keep your cool in the face of pissed off people. Another reason to give props to nurses 😀
Pain is awful. I've experienced a lot of rude nurses and doctors in the ER. I have Gastroparesis and spend a lot of time in the Er and the hospital. I've heard nurses out in the hallway talking/ making fun of me and sometimes other patients. It's very hurtful.
I'm sorry that happened to you. I just want to let you know that narcotic abuse is a real problem that we facing now in this country. People abuse and misuse ER service. Pain is a subjective complaints and it is whatever the patients says it is. . With that being said nurse never makes fun of any conditions. After 11 years of ER nursing, I moved on from ER because of compassion fatigue. General public are very abusive towards ER nurses (not everyone ). Come to your point, yes I agree there few nurses behave that way but they should be ashamed of themselves because we're nurses and we're better than that.

Lol I used to work at an emergency department. The 1st act was the most accurate. And if you work in an ER it is understandable. Some patients are extremely rude. Other times the nurses are complete asses though, just mean.
Yes! nurses are usually rushed of their feet, BUT, that is NO EXCUSE to treat a frightened patient, who has probably been lying on a hard uncomfortable trolle for ages and ages, is in a lot of pain, probably thirsty to boot and all you get is a nurse who puts her head round the curtains, curtly, asks if you're OK, and then is gone B4 you can ecen answer. A friendly smile and a word of comfort go a very long way. Yes!, there ARE rude patients too, but in 95 cases out of 109, the rudeness is simply pain, fear, and if you've come in without any friend or family to support you( as has happened 2 me many many times) you csn feel very isolated too. These hospital cubicles, are moy the epitome of confort either,. So nurses, whilst I do sympathise eitg the eork and pressure you're under, do remember, you are dealing with human beings, mot robots without feelings.
Honestly, people are extremely bad to nurses and we absorb alot of negative feelings and bad responses from people. I feel depressed and anxious because of the burden they put on you as a nurse . I feel i have been treated like a maid most of the time.
In England you never get more than 5 members of staff attending 30 patients. And at least 3 of those staff are just assistants who can't prescribe meds.
Clover Clover That's probably due to the government health care and trying to be as cheap as possible on the labor /census. I've seen patients from Canada who have the government health care actually come to the US for surgery because they say the government health care system is too flawed. Some who are waiting for organ transplants, the government decides who gets them. If it's an elderly person, they'll be most likely put on hospice, and comfort measures because they no longer work, and they are not working and paying taxes, the government views them as a liability, instead of an asset.
I was looking at the subtitles in English and they are very incorrect!! Is there any way they can be corrected? I was thinking of recommending this to a Brazilian Nurse who is learning English to take a job in Ireland and the English subtitles would help her understand what she was listening to at this stage of her English comprehension. Thank you for your contribution to improving nurse patient relationships. :)
+Mark Bloggs FYI There is a scarcity of jobs in general in Portugal and nursing is no exception. Nurses are very grateful to get work in their own profession even if that means moving abroad. It's an opportunity for a better life. They would love to be NEEDED IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES, sadly that is not the case. There are very few jobs and those that come up are very poorly compensated.

They don't care about the customer at all. Just strip you of your clothes, talk down to you , and for men it is really sexual abuse. Most staff are in it for a nice paycheck without having to have a 4 year or more college degree.
Fast-forward to 2023 a majority of nurses when you go to the hospital do not give a damn about you or your issues they're just there to talk on her cell phone calls and talk to each other and if you ask them for something you feel like you're bothering them
Many many alternatives including even if it's only to listening to what they have to say. Even if only being a punching bag for verbal soundoff. Even if only you can do one small little thing for them.
The nurse has to do the proper pain assessment(PQRST). She just asked for the (S) severity 0-10. She can still do a non-pharmacologic interventions before asking the doctor for stronger medication. Like comfort measures. Even her good rapport, nice approach, low tone of voice made the patient settle. The patient doesn't look like having an 11 pain score at all.....so relaxed. Why give a stronger medication right away?
I was going to applaud you for mentioning PQRST, but you let me down towards the end of your comment. You cannot judge a pt's pain rating even if it seems outrageous, especially for chronically ill pts.
Susan Murphy some patients like males won’t cry out loud to infer pain.. Pain scale differs from person to person according to their threshold limits..
That looked so fake if she was professional she should of said I’ll check with your doctor and see if I can get some then went and said the doctor said we can’t give you any weird acting
Petra Nyman No. This patient rung the buzzer 30 minutes ago its got NOTHING to do with waiting 30 minutes for pain relief. If a patient is not due for pain meds for a while, depending on how the doctor wrote the med chart up, they could have to wait for a few hiurs sometimes. If it is obvious from a patient's nonverbal expression and their vitals show they are in a great deal of pain then the nurse can ring the doctor to get either an earlier or extra dose or something else. Thats the way it is in the real world.
My mom is severely disabled from arthritic pain..even has deformities of her limbs and when the pain med was 1 and 1/2 hour late the nurse snapped at me for asking. Deserves being fired for torturing an elderly disabled woman, imo. She does it all the time.
Maria More Yes, I'm glad you brought that up! I had a new patient to ask me how MRSA and cellulitis is contracted, I gave different scenarios of how it could be contacted. It was a new admit, and head to toe assessment wasn't done yet, and I was his only visit after leaving the Ed. I relayed that to the (4) nurses that were at the station talking and the charge and another nurse said almost at the same time "you're just a CNA, you're not a nurse why is he asking YOU?" I replied because 1- I might not have my RN YET, but I can give senarios of how and why, I did take biology , and 2- After leaving the Ed almost an hr ago, and no one else bothered to check on him, do assessments, questions, ECT, and I'm the only CNA on this wing, I attempted to do what I could to get him settled, get vitals, dob, put contact precaution warning sign outside the door, explain to his wife why she has to gown up, and don gloves, and hand washing after removal of PPE before leaving the room, oh but I'm just a useless CNA after all, I'm nothing. (When I get my RN, BSN, I'll never treat CNAs like that pompus self righteous nurse)
