Hi I'm South African. It's coz its not a global Indian dish it developed over time in South Africa. That's why ur not aware of it even tho its considered an "Indian dish" its more of a "South African Indian dish".
Don't be shy to use your fingers.. FORGET the spoon..LOL !!! You can wash your fingers with lemon water after you've done.. to get the yellow off your fingers :)
wow that's something new and it's very suitable for the fast paced, always busy job goers..and the story of origin is very similar to Pav bhaji....now I am going to try making this one with buttery curry of Pav-Bhaji 😊 .
Glad to see foreigners enjoying South African dishes. But next time please eat a bunny chow using your hands only lol, from start to finish. If you guys would like to prepare South African dishes at home, please check out my channel as I am a South African food blogger residing in Durban :)
Watched this this morning and was so inspired I made a vegan lentil curry and made my own version of bunny chow with a white loaf, it was amazing, thanks for the video guys. Happy travels and keep safe. Xx😊💖🛫🌍
Love it! There's an izakaya restaurant in Las Vegas' Chinatown that serves a dessert called "honey toast" which takes the same bread bowl from a pullman white bread loaf, toasts, adds honey over ice cream - MMMMM! Shame this released after your LV visit.
Its a fact Durban makes the best Bunnychows😆. My combo of choice is a quarter mutton bunny with thee 300ml glass bottle coke to drink (for some reason it's better👌) accompanied by grated carrot salad and on the side curried or vinegar soaked chillies👌.The potatos should be firm to grab but easily mashed with fingers when eating (the local term is "melting moment" potatos😆). The meat should be tender but not compleatly falling of the bone. The curry should have a thick spicy ( not necessarily hot) gravy, it must not be drowning in oil. The spices should compliment the meat/veg not mask it👌and last but not least the bread. Not all bread are made for bunny making. The bread should be soft on the inside and have a fresh slightly crispy crust(if you gotta fight with the bread to get in there😅 the restaurant/take away got it wrong😅) and it should be able to soak up the gravy without becoming "slimy" . If you are lucky enough to get these qualities in a bunny chow... then you my friends have the true experience of a great bunny 👌 I'm glad to see people from around the world enjoying our South African cuisine . Thanks guys
Audrey....its totally ok that you could not finish that...its sooo big lol :P & Sam,you did extremely good to eat that much...hats off..... greetings from Kolkata
Wow, Bunny Chow looks kinda difficult to eat but I would love to try it. I want to try Sam's chicken version but would prefer it really spicy. I wish if there was a South African restaurant near my place.
I don't know who the best is but there are quite a few good ones around. They actually have a annual bunny competition which is a big thing! You can try places like Govenders, Goundens, Britania Hotel, Danny's House of Curries, , Curry O's, Cane Cutters, Hollywoodbets. the first 3 are old established venues, probably my favourites but all should be good. Before heading out to durbs pop in here mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/888478-Umhlanga-bunny-chows for any updates on bunny places, the folks will also assist with any other food & travel questions you might have ;)
Hi Guys, I am currently working on an educational promotion and would like to use a small portion of your footage. I would really love to hear your response.
Eastern Food Bazaar makes cheap food decent quality. Their Bunny chows are not the best , but for the price you cant complain. Next time have the Lamb Kathi roll or Lamb Sheek Khabab!
You can't review bunnies in cape Town and say you have done a bunny review. It's like eating Carbonara in Cape Town and calling it a review for Carbonara. You have to come to Durban. As a Durbanite I will say though every time I go to Capetown I always go to eastern bizzare

Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos 😁 .. I can imagine that .. back in India .. as kids we dipped bread slices in tea to eat and had similar experiences 😂😂
It's almost a sort of sin to use any type of cutlery when eating a bunny chow lol.
And the average person gets a quarter loaf, you guys got a half loaf bunny. You need a really big appetite for that
LOL, our mistake. We did use mostly our hands as time went on...
Oh my gosh, we're such pigs these days. First with the Gatsby and then with this. We definitely should have ordered the smaller portions ;)
foreigners are easily forgiven haha
South Africans Unite!!!!

Thanks Kelsey! We loved it :)

I'm not entirely sure but I think it must be in the range of 60-70.
I need to try this. Have yet to see one in Toronto though
We highly recommend it! The would be so cool if they had it in TO.
Unfortunately my friend bunny chows are indigenous to south african indians but mabye one day we come make one in canada

First mistake is eating a bunny chow anywhere else except Durban!!! it's just not the same!
I totally need to learn how to make this! The likelihood of finding it in Michigan is pretty slim. Lol
It would be fun to try for sure! Kind of like maybe a soup or chili bowl but then with a really nice curry inside.
Hey, that was hindi song in the background - from 'Sholay' :D
Great video, guys! Much love
Thank you! You have a great ear! :)
Lol when my girlfriend Nd I go out we always have a bunny and it's tops👍👌✌

Thank you! :)
High five to all the foodies out here👏👏
Indeed!
the whole point is that you get your hands messed when you eating it you don't eat it with a spoon you eat it with the bread
Ah, we'll remember that for next time. Thanks.
looks really tasty

I wish we could share with you! It is a fun meal :)
Don't know who copied whom but this concept is similar to sourdough bread bowl of clam chowder or tomato bisque you get in US lol.
Ah, that is true or a chili bowl :) Fun to eat out of bread basket :)
beautiful
thanks
The one rule of eating a bunny is never use any other tools to eat but your hand
Thanks for sharing that!
Tnks for replying samuel and audrey really appreciate it
my favourite restaurant
u should try Naan bread
#food goals
Thank you! Naan bread from there?
if the bread make it smaller size will great, won't have too much wastage
Apparently you can get one that is half that size. We should have done that...lol

Hi guys you must eat it with your hands and also eat a mutton bunny chaw please from durban.
Thanks for the tips!

spicy ?

Yeah, I was thinking that as well.
its little different of Indian pav bhaji .
Yeah, they are kind of similar.
This is a million miles away from pav bhaji which is just incredible..Butter butter and more butter :-)
cant u collab with some of us fans in SOUTH AFRICA while ur around??
I wish we had of done a meetup!
Me too :( :D
it's totally different from anything I have seen before .. but it also looks bit uncomfortable to eat 😀..
Thanks! It is kind of fun to eat once you get the hang of it because you can keep breaking off pieces of bread to sop up the curry.

This is similar to pav bhaji in india
Very interesting to hear!
I think the food during your wine tasting tours looked a lot better than that curry. The bread looks like conventional store bought bread.
Ah, this is definitely more of a fast food option for sure. Yeah, the meals we had in Stellenbosch were quite posh.
