The most concise way I can describe this video is like seeing the jumble of ideas, images, phrases, memes, and chaotic post-chapter-2 brain noise that compelled me to make my first video essay plucked out of the past, thawed, and reassembled into the video I _wanted_ to make if I was as good of an editor as I imagined. Or, in fewer words: I am very, very insecure right now.
I’ll be brief because I could scream forever that you found this, but: 1: Thank you, I’m VERY glad you enjoyed it. 2: I’m glad im not the only one seeing the brain noise angle. You have zeroed in on my soul and Shot It. 3: While producing this, I felt the exact same insecurity when looking at your video essays, and even avoided watching some of them for fear of that. Namely, “who is Kris” and “every narrator line”. That I can now enjoy fully. 4: I’d love to get a bit more in touch sometime and talk about our processes, and whatever back burner projects exist provided you have the time.

As a gay person, when I read about that Earthbound hack, I couldn't stop crying out of laughing. I'm sorry, but "tl;dr, eat shit fa***ts" is one of the funniest things I have ever heard and I will not only let it slide, I will cherish it. What matters is who Toby is and, from what we've seen, his actions are much more powerful than that one line from a silly Earthbound hack will ever be. Playing Deltarune for the first time, on Halloween of 2018, may have been the most gratifying experience ever. Because it confirmed that no, my love for Undertale wasn’t nostalgia for formative years where I had lower standards, and the game wasn’t a fluke lightning-in-a-bottle enigma created by accident that could only happen once. Toby Fox was just really, _really_ good at what he does.

i think if you weren't up to date with toby himself you would THINK deltarune came out of nowhere, but he's actually hinted there was another game he wanted to make, and made undertale as a "proof of concept" that he could make games. we knew it wouldn't be a sequel, because deltarune was the original concept he wanted to make but was reluctant to create it.
We've got one piece of direct evidence of that, actually: the Wayback Machine captured a snapshot of the Deltarune site before Undertale was even released.

As much as i love Undertale's and Deltarune's meta narrative, i gotta say that i wouldn't ever have forgiven Toby if he would just be content with leaving Chara to be more of a narrative tool than an actual CHARActer (as much as he tried to give them character with love for chocolate and different lines of dialogue on the genocide route, i really can't blame most players for thinking that Chara is some kind of allegory to Satan or just evil incarnate, they don't really have anything to paint them in a good light from our direct perspective). Glad he's doing something seemingly different in Deltarune.
Call me crazy, but I think Chara came with us in Deltarune, not controlling Kris or anything just like they didn't control Frisk, but because of their connection to our soul Chara was transported to Deltarune with us the player, evidence for this is the game making references to undertale when we see stuff that were also in undertale, like the bake sale, the save point states this is not the 1st time we see it, there was other stuff but I forgot For who I think the narrator is in Deltarune, its Chara and Kris, both narrating stuff, Chara being with us would also work in the theme of "not being above consequences", if we did geno then Chara comes with us too, we can't escape what we did by just going to another universe
I also believe he made a lot of mistakes that had let to people misunderstand the game a lot in a bad way. I felt that the end of the game was particularly rushed, it is noticeable.

@@cito7288 Toby has said both have connections and are not entirely separate, also Toby said that deltarune is for people who finished undertale, and you know this very well if you were there when deltarune released out of nowhere, so it doesn't contradict anything and still makes sense, also you don't need to go geno for Chara to be with you, Chara was with you from the very start of your playthrought, the player's determination woke their spirit from the death the moment frisk fell on their corpse, or the moment the player took control (yes, below the golden flowers Chara is there buried), Chara tells you this in geno if you don't believe me, and the reason Chara got geno tendencies is because you corrupted Chara, so if you didn't do geno then Chara is a "good" kid Finishing undertale at least once like in a neutral route, like Toby said to do before playing deltarune, makes the theory possible
I usually keep my comments exclusively to discussing the topic of the video in this channel but i feel like i want to mention how much I adore your editing style It's the right amount of quick paced while not feeling like some desperate attention grabbing Mr Beast Copycat type editing, it has the right amount of jokes and references added in without feeling like they waste screen time or rely on memes that will stop being funny within a week, and in general the jokes tend to really land for me (which doesn't really have to do with the editing but it's worth mentioning darn it).
You did it. You perfectly captured the feelings that were invoked when Undertale, chapter 1 and chapter 3 first came out. I can’t really describe it, but there is was just a very unique _feeling_ that all those installments brought out that were distinct from each other, and you somehow captured that nuance with your segments on each of them. It’s an incredibly nostalgic feeling that I’m thankful to you for sharing. The editing of this was so incredibly phenomenal, I literally didn’t even notice 25 minutes had gone buy until it was at the end. I honestly would’ve loved for it to go on for longer, though I’m sure this type of editing for a video that’s even 25 minutes must be a challenging ordeal. Seriously, this is an incredible video. I would absolutely love more content on Kris, snowgrave, ralsie, all of it. I don’t think I could ever get bored with content that has this much passion behind it. Subscribed!

Your editing style appeals to my adhd. Oh yeah and also great analysis of the themes of both Undertale and Deltarune. Most analyses focus on choice or the lack of it rather than the relationship between player and the in universe characters. Made me see these works in a different way even though it’s been almost 10 years since Undertale came out.

Oh lord, seven years... honestly this is hands down the best summarisation of Undertale and Deltarune i've ever seen. alot of people get so roped up in the theories they miss the actual intent of the game, but you hit the nail on the head in this. kudos
THE THEORY SCENE IS REALLY WEIRD THO!?! Toby's narration is Weird, he gets tangential, he paints very vivid pictures, dense with references, to the point where it's impossible to tell what's storytelling and what's jokes, I Love It Dearly. There's so much to be done if you take everything in context and do minimal extrapolation but everyone ends up going off and ascribing everything to the two characters we know the least about, Gaster&Chara, because WE DON'T KNOW BETTER YET uuugh.
14:33 uhhh, I kind of don’t get the idea that “Deltarune doesn’t reveal that it’s a separate universe from Undertale until the end of the first chapter” thing, seeing as *_Asriel is mentioned to be in college during the opening car ride_* unless like, you subscribe to the “Saved Asriel AU’s” or you have a Soulless Flowey in college which is honestly quite a funny image.
The amount of effort you put on this video, both on editing and narrative aspects, is terrificaly amazing. I've learned A LOT from watching this 25 minutes, both editing-wise and knowledge-wise. I'm not even 10 minutes in and this is already the greatest deconstruction and faithful, authentic analysis of Undertale that I have ever seen. The fact that this video actually understands and brings to light what Undertale really is and is truly trying to communicate puts this leagues above any other retrospective-style video I have ever seen on the game to date. If Toby Fox understands breaking the gaming meta to a T, then this video understands Toby's understanding to a T.

This video feels like you fused a manic video editor and an academic game scholar hopped up on G-Fuel to make some of the most insightful, well edited Undertale/Deltarune analysis which covers the core themes of these games on a way that has never been covered before. The editing in this video has to be some of the best editing I have ever seen. I'm super upset that the algorithm gave me this video so late so I didn't get to experience the gaster thing which sucks but this video is still absolutely amazing. Yet another example of an obscure, underrated youtuber doing better than the people at the top.
i don't usually look at watch time when i click videos but i so badly wanted this to be a 3h essay. i clicked subscribe on the first reminder. normally when youtubers remind me to subscribe i don't even bother genuinely, absolutely astonishing work also i find the cascading choicelessness in deltarune really interesting, especially in the snowgrave route - noelle doesn't exercise much choice at all when faced with "kris"s commands, except maybe if you count the way her powers manifest (spike, shield, etc), with some of her past choices (helping spamton) coming back to her with disastrous consequences - kris exercises choice in relatively small ways, but is completely bound by the options we pick (until he takes the soul out at least, and even then he seems to have no choice but to take us back afterwards) - we exercise choice in what options we pick, but only when prompted by the game and from a limited set of options, bound by the narrative woven by toby fox (or gaster, hell if i know) no idea if this little comment makes any sense but the video got me thinking :)

this video was absolutely hilarious, i loved it so much LMAOO you captured how so many of us felt/feel about it still x"3 and INCREDIBLE editing holy shit!! i want to argue/infodump that imho Frisk isnt just an "empty vessel" with no personality, they actually have quite a lot of personality that's only subtley hinted at, and they DO actually speak and move for themself many times (gleaned from how characters react to them mostly). theyre much younger than Kris, and most likely less rebellious, or simply partially nonverbal. either way, since the players relationship with Frisk isnt the focus of undertale, it makes sense that they'd be much more placid than Kris, but still are their own person with their own reasons to climb the mountain

Bring on the Undertale arc, I'm here for it! Let's start talking about story analysis, character analysis, and theories! (Like my own personal theory that Noelle is accidentally responsible for December's death by way of ice magic, and much like when she kills the Addison and Berdly, she's completely blocked it from her mind.)
Actually, heck with it, I'm just going to explain it. It's on my mind and I wanna talk about it, why not. Whatever, more comments for your algorithm. So let's go down some evidence for this and establish I'm not just making this up out of nothing. (And hopefully it's not something that's been picked up on and talked to death in fandom already and I didn't know because I don't really participate in it much.) -Noelle blocks out her murders. This one's obvious. She's able to treat the random enemies just as 'enemies', the kind you might find in the RPGs she plays, and doesn't think too hard on what she's doing. However, when faced with a situation where she can't do that- when she was compelled to kill a friendly shopkeeper who wasn't in battle with her, and when she killed an actual person who she knows- in both instances, she acts as if she blacked out for a moment and doesn't remember what happened- and in the case of Berdly, willfully ignores what is clearly in front of her. -Noelle is Special. Queen wants to use her to open Dark Fountains over anyone else and talks about how strong she is, and Spamton accuses Kris of using Noelle to garner power for themselves during Weird Route. There is SOMETHING unique about her, something that distinguishes her from Kris, Susie, and Berdly, that both of these darkners have recognized. -Monsters do not use magic; but are not necessarily incapable of it. In Undertale, Toriel uses fire magic to cook. In Deltarune, her oven's covered in batter. Catti also talks about looking up occult and spells in the same way we would in our reality- as something fun for weirdo kids to do. (This will come back later.) By all accounts, monsters cannot normally use magic- but Susie uses Ralsei's sleep spell in the climax of Chapter 1 if Lancer doesn't show up with the cavalry, and also learns to use a healing spell- even if she's not good at it. It's also questionable if she's still capable of magic while in the Light World. Still though, unlike Kris, she CAN actually use magic- and monsters still turn to dust when they die and are fundamentally different from humans. So it seems like it might be possible that their magical prowess is simply atrophied, and that it would take an exceptionally special monster to be able to- OH WAIT. Yeah, Noelle not only is naturally talented with magic in the Dark World, but her magic stat is even higher than Ralsei's, the one who comes from the much more obviously magical world. It is not inconceivable that she might be so magically talented, that she could even cast spells in the Light World under the proper circumstances. -Noelle's the only one that talks about December. Nobody else mentions her- and from listening to Noelle talk, the words she says- it's easy to assume that Dess might be off in college with Asriel or something. She jokes casually, reminiscing about fun times, when Dess attacked Kris with a wiffle bat- nothing about her tone indicates there's anything wrong. The fact that December is missing is not conveyed at all by anything anyone says, but by background elements and subtext. Which would make sense, if everyone else knows she's dead, and has been for a while- and also knows that Noelle gets... weird, if the issue is addressed around her. Noelle is looking for her- but nobody else is, because everybody else knows there's nothing to look for. -Noelle's reaction to being told to cast Snowgrave. She is not confused. She is not perplexed by Kris suddenly telling her to cast some random nonsense. The words she uses and the expressions chosen show that she is anxious, scared, angry, and FORCEFUL that she DOES NOT know a spell called Snowgrave. Again, it's how she responds to trauma and things she's done- she blocks it out, she pretends it doesn't exist. (Notably, she does not have this reaction when asked to cast Healing Prayer, Pacify, or Iceshock- spells that, by all accounts of the lack of magic in Deltarune's Light World, she shouldn't know how to use either- but only now is it suddenly an issue.) -Catti's interest in the arcane, her friendship with Kris, and in turn their friendship with Noelle. Remember when this was coming back alter? Here it is. Through Catti (as well as the Poppup enemy) we learn that Kris has an interest in rituals, spells, demons, and the occult in general. Or, at least, they HAD an interest, since they seem to have drifted away from Catti over the years. -Noelle, Dess, Kris, and Asriel's explorations in the wilderness. Noelle talks about the 4 of them journeying together, exploring, looking for something exciting. Lamenting that they didn't find anything, implying that they were looking for something amazing. Something magical. So, suppose that during one of those outings Kris suggested they try some spells. Something that they found online, or in some old book, or based on some old rumor- just something fun for some kids to get up to during a camping trip, like messing around with a ouija board, that none of them REALLY expect to work. And when Noelle tries it... Well. It works. -Asgore being fired from the police force. Suppose that, suddenly- one of mayor's daughters is found frozen to near death. Comatose and Fallen Down, like a certain other bird monster in the future. The other daughter insists she doesn't know what happened, and completely shuts down any time the subject is remotely broached- even if just being asked to spell 'December' during a spelling bee. So there's no leads there. And Kris and Asriel, for one reason or another, are unwiling to speak on it. Maybe they just don't say anything, maybe they say they must've left for a moment when it happened. Because of this utter disaster, and Asgore's failure to find a culprit, along with it happening after his children took the mayor's daughters out into the woods at night- loses his job, and things get tense, and everyone drifts apart. Because nobody knows what really happened that night. ...But Kris knows. -Kris know what Snowgrave is. Maybe Asriel does too, or maybe he was busy grabbing firewood for a moment- it's impossible to say for now. But either way, Kris /definitely/ knows, and refuses to say anything to get Noelle in trouble. And as they tell Noelle to use this spell, they know, without a shadow of a doubt, the one, single word that could be used to describe it. Fatal. ....OOOOOOF course, ALL of this could VERY easily be disproven, and there's no actual concrete evidence for ANY of it- buuut at the moment I don't think there's anything big DIS-proving it, either- so for the moment, it's how I'm choosing to interpret the evidence! We'll see if that interpretation changes with the introduction of new evidence! ...Hopefully sometime soon! No rush though, take your time, Toby.

I aspire to edit like you or your editor(which considering your description says nothing about one, is probably you).
This video is so overly edited and constructed, it’s like a near perfect example of the mental gymnastics and feelings the two games put the players through. That isn’t a bad thing, anything less would greatly undermine the weight these games could throw around when compared to AAA titles atm. Great work!

The most concise way I can describe this video is like seeing the jumble of ideas, images, phrases, memes, and chaotic post-chapter-2 brain noise that compelled me to make my first video essay plucked out of the past, thawed, and reassembled into the video I _wanted_ to make if I was as good of an editor as I imagined. Or, in fewer words: I am very, very insecure right now.

1: Thank you, I’m VERY glad you enjoyed it.
2: I’m glad im not the only one seeing the brain noise angle. You have zeroed in on my soul and Shot It.
3: While producing this, I felt the exact same insecurity when looking at your video essays, and even avoided watching some of them for fear of that. Namely, “who is Kris” and “every narrator line”. That I can now enjoy fully.
4: I’d love to get a bit more in touch sometime and talk about our processes, and whatever back burner projects exist provided you have the time.

As a gay person, when I read about that Earthbound hack, I couldn't stop crying out of laughing. I'm sorry, but "tl;dr, eat shit fa***ts" is one of the funniest things I have ever heard and I will not only let it slide, I will cherish it. What matters is who Toby is and, from what we've seen, his actions are much more powerful than that one line from a silly Earthbound hack will ever be. Playing Deltarune for the first time, on Halloween of 2018, may have been the most gratifying experience ever. Because it confirmed that no, my love for Undertale wasn’t nostalgia for formative years where I had lower standards, and the game wasn’t a fluke lightning-in-a-bottle enigma created by accident that could only happen once.
Toby Fox was just really, _really_ good at what he does.

i think if you weren't up to date with toby himself you would THINK deltarune came out of nowhere, but he's actually hinted there was another game he wanted to make, and made undertale as a "proof of concept" that he could make games.
we knew it wouldn't be a sequel, because deltarune was the original concept he wanted to make but was reluctant to create it.
Yeah, I was mostly going over the bare minimum needed to know the narrative and experience of DELTARUNE as it happened.
We've got one piece of direct evidence of that, actually: the Wayback Machine captured a snapshot of the Deltarune site before Undertale was even released.

As much as i love Undertale's and Deltarune's meta narrative, i gotta say that i wouldn't ever have forgiven Toby if he would just be content with leaving Chara to be more of a narrative tool than an actual CHARActer (as much as he tried to give them character with love for chocolate and different lines of dialogue on the genocide route, i really can't blame most players for thinking that Chara is some kind of allegory to Satan or just evil incarnate, they don't really have anything to paint them in a good light from our direct perspective). Glad he's doing something seemingly different in Deltarune.
Call me crazy, but I think Chara came with us in Deltarune, not controlling Kris or anything just like they didn't control Frisk, but because of their connection to our soul Chara was transported to Deltarune with us the player, evidence for this is the game making references to undertale when we see stuff that were also in undertale, like the bake sale, the save point states this is not the 1st time we see it, there was other stuff but I forgot
For who I think the narrator is in Deltarune, its Chara and Kris, both narrating stuff, Chara being with us would also work in the theme of "not being above consequences", if we did geno then Chara comes with us too, we can't escape what we did by just going to another universe
I also believe he made a lot of mistakes that had let to people misunderstand the game a lot in a bad way. I felt that the end of the game was particularly rushed, it is noticeable.

@@cito7288 Toby has said both have connections and are not entirely separate, also Toby said that deltarune is for people who finished undertale, and you know this very well if you were there when deltarune released out of nowhere, so it doesn't contradict anything and still makes sense, also you don't need to go geno for Chara to be with you, Chara was with you from the very start of your playthrought, the player's determination woke their spirit from the death the moment frisk fell on their corpse, or the moment the player took control (yes, below the golden flowers Chara is there buried), Chara tells you this in geno if you don't believe me, and the reason Chara got geno tendencies is because you corrupted Chara, so if you didn't do geno then Chara is a "good" kid
Finishing undertale at least once like in a neutral route, like Toby said to do before playing deltarune, makes the theory possible
I usually keep my comments exclusively to discussing the topic of the video in this channel but i feel like i want to mention how much I adore your editing style
It's the right amount of quick paced while not feeling like some desperate attention grabbing Mr Beast Copycat type editing, it has the right amount of jokes and references added in without feeling like they waste screen time or rely on memes that will stop being funny within a week, and in general the jokes tend to really land for me (which doesn't really have to do with the editing but it's worth mentioning darn it).

You did it. You perfectly captured the feelings that were invoked when Undertale, chapter 1 and chapter 3 first came out. I can’t really describe it, but there is was just a very unique _feeling_ that all those installments brought out that were distinct from each other, and you somehow captured that nuance with your segments on each of them. It’s an incredibly nostalgic feeling that I’m thankful to you for sharing. The editing of this was so incredibly phenomenal, I literally didn’t even notice 25 minutes had gone buy until it was at the end. I honestly would’ve loved for it to go on for longer, though I’m sure this type of editing for a video that’s even 25 minutes must be a challenging ordeal. Seriously, this is an incredible video.
I would absolutely love more content on Kris, snowgrave, ralsie, all of it. I don’t think I could ever get bored with content that has this much passion behind it. Subscribed!

Most analyses focus on choice or the lack of it rather than the relationship between player and the in universe characters. Toby's narration is Weird, he gets tangential, he paints very vivid pictures, dense with references, to the point where it's impossible to tell what's storytelling and what's jokes, I Love It Dearly. There's so much to be done if you take everything in context and do minimal extrapolation but everyone ends up going off and ascribing everything to the two characters we know the least about, Gaster&Chara, because WE DON'T KNOW BETTER YET uuugh.

This video feels like you fused a manic video editor and an academic game scholar hopped up on G-Fuel to make some of the most insightful, well edited Undertale/Deltarune analysis which covers the core themes of these games on a way that has never been covered before.

genuinely, absolutely astonishing work
also i find the cascading choicelessness in deltarune really interesting, especially in the snowgrave route
- noelle doesn't exercise much choice at all when faced with "kris"s commands, except maybe if you count the way her powers manifest (spike, shield, etc), with some of her past choices (helping spamton) coming back to her with disastrous consequences
- kris exercises choice in relatively small ways, but is completely bound by the options we pick (until he takes the soul out at least, and even then he seems to have no choice but to take us back afterwards)
- we exercise choice in what options we pick, but only when prompted by the game and from a limited set of options, bound by the narrative woven by toby fox (or gaster, hell if i know)
no idea if this little comment makes any sense but the video got me thinking :)

i want to argue/infodump that imho Frisk isnt just an "empty vessel" with no personality, they actually have quite a lot of personality that's only subtley hinted at, and they DO actually speak and move for themself many times (gleaned from how characters react to them mostly). theyre much younger than Kris, and most likely less rebellious, or simply partially nonverbal. either way, since the players relationship with Frisk isnt the focus of undertale, it makes sense that they'd be much more placid than Kris, but still are their own person with their own reasons to climb the mountain

the editing in this video really pulled me in. the sheer number of things i could pick out really speaks to the skill you have. and your stage presence, no amount of fancy editing (okay maybe some amount) would make me stay for the entire video. and your humor! it had me laughing throughout the entire runtime
my favourite bits of editing (that i have rewatched a few times) would be the opening cut and the cut for chapter two. so much eye candy and beautifully quick movements/transitions!

This video is a real masterpiece, these moments with super cool editing and music perfectly represent what I feel about these two games, it’s just a huge mess (Very reminiscent of the scene from molystars video, which perfectly described the feelings after the release of the second chapter)

Love this video. The energy's crazy, and relationship between Kris and the Player is one of my favorite things in Deltarune! I can't wait to see it explored more. Bring on the Undertale arc, I'm here for it! Let's start talking about story analysis, character analysis, and theories! (Like my own personal theory that Noelle is accidentally responsible for December's death by way of ice magic, and much like when she kills the Addison and Berdly, she's completely blocked it from her mind.)
Actually, heck with it, I'm just going to explain it. It's on my mind and I wanna talk about it, why not. Whatever, more comments for your algorithm. So let's go down some evidence for this and establish I'm not just making this up out of nothing. (And hopefully it's not something that's been picked up on and talked to death in fandom already and I didn't know because I don't really participate in it much.)
-Noelle blocks out her murders.
This one's obvious. She's able to treat the random enemies just as 'enemies', the kind you might find in the RPGs she plays, and doesn't think too hard on what she's doing. However, when faced with a situation where she can't do that- when she was compelled to kill a friendly shopkeeper who wasn't in battle with her, and when she killed an actual person who she knows- in both instances, she acts as if she blacked out for a moment and doesn't remember what happened- and in the case of Berdly, willfully ignores what is clearly in front of her.
-Noelle is Special.
Queen wants to use her to open Dark Fountains over anyone else and talks about how strong she is, and Spamton accuses Kris of using Noelle to garner power for themselves during Weird Route. There is SOMETHING unique about her, something that distinguishes her from Kris, Susie, and Berdly, that both of these darkners have recognized.
-Monsters do not use magic; but are not necessarily incapable of it.
In Undertale, Toriel uses fire magic to cook. In Deltarune, her oven's covered in batter. Catti also talks about looking up occult and spells in the same way we would in our reality- as something fun for weirdo kids to do. (This will come back later.) By all accounts, monsters cannot normally use magic- but Susie uses Ralsei's sleep spell in the climax of Chapter 1 if Lancer doesn't show up with the cavalry, and also learns to use a healing spell- even if she's not good at it. It's also questionable if she's still capable of magic while in the Light World. Still though, unlike Kris, she CAN actually use magic- and monsters still turn to dust when they die and are fundamentally different from humans. So it seems like it might be possible that their magical prowess is simply atrophied, and that it would take an exceptionally special monster to be able to- OH WAIT. Yeah, Noelle not only is naturally talented with magic in the Dark World, but her magic stat is even higher than Ralsei's, the one who comes from the much more obviously magical world. It is not inconceivable that she might be so magically talented, that she could even cast spells in the Light World under the proper circumstances.
-Noelle's the only one that talks about December.
Nobody else mentions her- and from listening to Noelle talk, the words she says- it's easy to assume that Dess might be off in college with Asriel or something. She jokes casually, reminiscing about fun times, when Dess attacked Kris with a wiffle bat- nothing about her tone indicates there's anything wrong. The fact that December is missing is not conveyed at all by anything anyone says, but by background elements and subtext. Which would make sense, if everyone else knows she's dead, and has been for a while- and also knows that Noelle gets... weird, if the issue is addressed around her. Noelle is looking for her- but nobody else is, because everybody else knows there's nothing to look for.
-Noelle's reaction to being told to cast Snowgrave.
She is not confused. She is not perplexed by Kris suddenly telling her to cast some random nonsense. The words she uses and the expressions chosen show that she is anxious, scared, angry, and FORCEFUL that she DOES NOT know a spell called Snowgrave. Again, it's how she responds to trauma and things she's done- she blocks it out, she pretends it doesn't exist. (Notably, she does not have this reaction when asked to cast Healing Prayer, Pacify, or Iceshock- spells that, by all accounts of the lack of magic in Deltarune's Light World, she shouldn't know how to use either- but only now is it suddenly an issue.)
-Catti's interest in the arcane, her friendship with Kris, and in turn their friendship with Noelle.
Remember when this was coming back alter? Here it is. Through Catti (as well as the Poppup enemy) we learn that Kris has an interest in rituals, spells, demons, and the occult in general. Or, at least, they HAD an interest, since they seem to have drifted away from Catti over the years.
-Noelle, Dess, Kris, and Asriel's explorations in the wilderness.
Noelle talks about the 4 of them journeying together, exploring, looking for something exciting. Lamenting that they didn't find anything, implying that they were looking for something amazing. Something magical.
So, suppose that during one of those outings Kris suggested they try some spells. Something that they found online, or in some old book, or based on some old rumor- just something fun for some kids to get up to during a camping trip, like messing around with a ouija board, that none of them REALLY expect to work. And when Noelle tries it... Well.
It works.
-Asgore being fired from the police force.
Suppose that, suddenly- one of mayor's daughters is found frozen to near death. Comatose and Fallen Down, like a certain other bird monster in the future.
The other daughter insists she doesn't know what happened, and completely shuts down any time the subject is remotely broached- even if just being asked to spell 'December' during a spelling bee. So there's no leads there. And Kris and Asriel, for one reason or another, are unwiling to speak on it. Maybe they just don't say anything, maybe they say they must've left for a moment when it happened. Because of this utter disaster, and Asgore's failure to find a culprit, along with it happening after his children took the mayor's daughters out into the woods at night- loses his job, and things get tense, and everyone drifts apart. Because nobody knows what really happened that night.
...But Kris knows.
-Kris know what Snowgrave is.
Maybe Asriel does too, or maybe he was busy grabbing firewood for a moment- it's impossible to say for now. But either way, Kris /definitely/ knows, and refuses to say anything to get Noelle in trouble.
And as they tell Noelle to use this spell, they know, without a shadow of a doubt, the one, single word that could be used to describe it.
Fatal.
....OOOOOOF course, ALL of this could VERY easily be disproven, and there's no actual concrete evidence for ANY of it- buuut at the moment I don't think there's anything big DIS-proving it, either- so for the moment, it's how I'm choosing to interpret the evidence! We'll see if that interpretation changes with the introduction of new evidence! ...Hopefully sometime soon! No rush though, take your time, Toby.

This video is so overly edited and constructed, it’s like a near perfect example of the mental gymnastics and feelings the two games put the players through. That isn’t a bad thing, anything less would greatly undermine the weight these games could throw around when compared to AAA titles atm. Great work!
