Me too. How ironic that my main experience with him is all the "Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-in" columns I read in the Times-herald Weekend Magazine, where I couldn't hear his voice. I had to imagine what he sounded like. His voice is a bit deeper than I had always imagined.
I don't see anyone mentioning that Joe Bob is back... he's on Shudder, doing streaming movie marathons. So if you enjoyed Monstervision check it out :)
Can't get enough of Joe Bob. Love his commentaries, his TV shows, books, reviews, everything! Recently watched his 24 hour movie marathon on Shudder and can't wait for his new series on Shudder. Keep on keepin on Joe Bob!
@ 57:25 ... ''They were misleading people into thinking they were seeing something that they weren't seeing... *slight pause*... it was a fine art that they practice!'' haha That made me laugh at loud, Joe Bob is awesome :-)
The wrestlers were Lenny Lane and Lodi of Raven's Flock. They were the West Hollywood Blondes. Later known in TNA (Now IMPACT Wrestling) called the Rainbow Express.
I gotta tell ya, I was disappointed to learn that Joe Bob wasn't up all night with us us shut-ins watchin' these movies because nobody else wanted us around. It's like findin' out a friend was lyin' to ya all these years.
Joe Bob's film commentaries are the best. I wish he would do more of them. I'd love to hear him do a commentary for the 1986 slasher gem Slaughterhouse.
+Paul Max Ah a good one. Plus it needs a blu ray release. I still got the old Program Power DVD. Its a gem, indeed. While the teenage victims are almost secondary, I still _LOVE_ the main storyline & the under-appreciated slasher lead of Buddy. Would love to see him go a commentary track & some fresh interviews indeed.
We have an over-abundance of directors today but no storytellers is what I like to say. They focus too much on acting and just getting the dialogue down. They do not rehearse, do not block for a purpose of the scene, do not try for moody lighting, and do not understand camera language. No mise en scene or auteur types anymore. It's all people just wanting attention and awards that rush to just get it out there for clicks. No heart of fore-thought in it anymore. And Joe Bob says to go to film school but I did and I now think film school is actually confusing students into rushing just to get it done. My school literally told me to just be like Hollywood movies and make it flashy with effects. They were all about production value and ignored story. And they never emphasized lighting patterns or set decoration. This is why you get so many people talking in front of blank white walls, completely lit by a bright white light. People focus on the actors and dialogue now. Nothing else. We are now in the "tripod era". No one wants to do troubling camera moves.
I first saw him in 1987 when I got out of the navy and was exposed to cable TV for the first time. TMC was the strangest cable channel ever and they had terrible films. Joe Bob Briggs was the one shining spot on The Movie Channel. He rocked.
I wish Joe Bob would do more film commentaries because his commentaries are the absolute best. I would love him do one for the movie The Nail-Gun Massacre.
+Draven Yet another good one. Love the killer's sub-par, fourth rate Freddy-like one liners in that one. Indeed, Synapse should have used him on their '05 release. If they do a re-release since the films co writer/director Terry Lofton sadly passed in 2014, he definitely needs to be involved. He should talk about Slaughterhouse and the amusing obscure turd that was Evil Laugh (1986) as well, too. I also wonder if he's ever gotten a hold of the late '80s German shot on video shit house horror titled appropriately enough the Violent Shit Trilogy and if so, if he has any thoughts? I would love to buy an "official" release with some of his thoughts, comments, interviews or a commentary track.
+Captain Brandon [Fiend Club] Oh I didn't know Tom Lofton died. TNGM was a classic. And yes Joe Bob should definitely do Slaughterhouse because "Buddy has a big axe to grind" even though Buddy's weapon was a giant cleaver, not an axe lol! But I was thrilled when Joe Bob did my number one favorite high school slasher, Hell High.
Yeah check the Internet Movie Database; you can click on his name from The Nail Gun Massacre's page. Yeah, I sadly look him up around last Christmas when I re-bought the movie new on Amazon from a third party seller. Ha! Yeah, I loved the old tag line form the rare poster I got from eBay; Near mint as well too, framed :D "Buddy has an axe to grind. A BIG AXE!". I always thought the two leads of Lester Bacon and his son, Buddy, were such slasher novelties. Its too bad a sequel was never made and the father appeared to be killed off as he was run over. Its such a fun, odd little movie. While Sean Clark's pop-punk appearance sort of grates me I was watching for Scream Factory release of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) over the weekend and I would LOVE to see a "Horror's Hallowed Grounds" episode, looking at four or so of the places real quick shooting locations-wise for Slaughterhouse. The somewhat homely (ha, I know!) lead female of the film later took up body building & female stunt work for film & television and perhaps she can co-star in the episode. The director also made a RUclips video some years ago, Rich Roessaler, so he could be in it as well. Hell High is a good choice! But yeah while we all got our I Spit on Your Grave blu rays as well as some DVDs to watch upconverted of his commentary such as Blood Sisters, I would love to see a new round or three or four fresh commentarie tracks announced with Joe Bob's delightfully country-fried voice.
+PCGamer77 I was really hoping the interviewer would follow up his question about Joe Bob doing another movie show with the idea of him doing a youtube show, he could decide exactly how he wanted the format without anybody looking over his shoulder.
The killing of rental stores by Blockbuster was the beginning of the end. Without renting, there are so many movies and games that people would never see or hear about. With renting, you get people paying to rent so many of them, and eventually buying the ones they really like, usually after renting them several times. There were a lot of companies who made movies just for the rental market, and I'm sure it was keeping a lot of game studios afloat too. It wasn't a perfect system, a lot of these movies and games were sold more on their covers, but I feel bad for studios now who aren't part of the tiny group of billion dollar corporations controlling everything, I can't think of any good way to make the quality of their products translate into better sales.
If you all can.... get his book PROFOUNDLY DISTURBING!!!! You will NOT be disappointed!!!!! If you enjoy his knowledge of film now.... just wait till you read that book! I was so glad to meet him last year and had him autograph it!

49:21 Pseudonyms weren't allowed on The Daily Show with Jon Leibowitz? Oh sorry, I mean Jon "Stewart"?

Did anyone have a pseudonym aside from Stewart? I can't remember anyone.
handsomebrick Colbert... You know, what with the name being pronounced Cole-Bare despite actually being pronounced, by his own admission, Cole-Bert.
But Colbert was there during the Kilborn years, I remember.
