I worked the NY "doorbell" repeater, I think it was the KQTH repeater, from Colorado the other day. Conditions were good and I got a legible conversation in using 50 watts and my quadband Wouxun.
There used to be a lot of them in Southern CA, but they started causing issues when the conditions allowed great propagation, and some got into loops. I do not remember all the details, but n that era 6M and 10M repeaters in the USA declined. I think the VHF repeaters were becoming more of a thing then. And, I also think it had to do with the rise of FM VHF radios. @@HamRadioDX
Gotta love the 10FM repeaters! Sporadic E or F-2, I once worked Michael Vk3cmc only 4 kilometres from me stronger via 6rhf in Perth (2750 k’s) than simplex. Good work Hayden! Peter, VK3ACZ
@@HamRadioDX I will definitely try it once it's up and running! I'll let my club know as well, see if we can get some more ZLs to try it out and hopefully get more interest in 10m here.
We have a great performing 10m repeater here in Ontario Canada. 29.640Mhz, no PL. There are occasionally VK stations that make it, but not too often. Lots of Europe though, starting in the fall and going to the winter. Often we have Germany talking with Mexico or other countries to our south or western Canada, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Puerto Rico, etc. Quite the amazing band when it's open.
@@HamRadioDX yeah, it's amazing how 10m will span the world when the band is open. The repeater is VE3MMX and it's owned and operated by a local ham in this area.
The KQ2H system in NY is local to me. Unfortunately, I have no 10 M gear, but that system is on 2m/70cm as well. I think there are 17 repeaters linked. Always fun to listen to that system when the band opens. My first introduction to amateur radio was a repeater in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, on 29.66 in 1991, so I have always enjoyed the idea of 10 m repeaters, but in 30 years of being licensed, have never actually used one directly.
Wow very cool, I am looking forward to working 10 meter FM myself just installed a quad band mobile in my truck have to tune the antenna, and build a program for it, great video, you have been busy I can see.😊
@HamRadioDX well nothing fancy a TYT quad mobile, Yaesu used to make one but discontinued now the 9800, you know I think people don't realize how capable uhf/vhf radios are, two weeks ago I was driving across the desert in Southern California got on the WIN system and it was linked to the east coast reflector, some where along the line I was internet linked talked to a guy on echolink on his cellphone in northern California, a station in Alaska, and about a 30 minute talk with a guy in Germany, totally awesome, will be listening for your awesome 10 meter repeater when you get it up and running have a nice day 😊 73s KN6GZP DAVE
That's impressive work Hayden. There are a lot of us looking forward to having another 10m repeater on the air! (It's a shame that VK6RHF is on the same frequency though?)
Yeah same frequency. We got allocated 29.680 years ago. There apparently is another repeater on 680 about to come on the air soon.... hopefully we don't get a lot of interference between them all
@@HamRadioDX what is wrong with the WIA and ACMA? Sure they could assign a different frequency? It's madness. Maybe it's worth a chat with Peter at the WIA about this one.
@@mostlypostie1 My frequency pair was allocated in 2013... the new repeater allocated 2 months ago on our frequency would've gone via WIA and ACMA... bit strange as we're the only frequency that will have three repeaters on it now.
10 meters getting some DX buy me. and I have a 10 meter repeater right buy me. can hit with under a watt . 29.86 with a PL of107.2 call is WB2JQK . Boston NY . their is a few 10 meter repeaters in NY and some 6 meter as well. 73's

Love your channel, last week over here in England on LSB Australia and America booming over , great work Alan from England 🇬🇧🍻💯👍👍👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for the informative video Hayden. Used to love working the 10m band.
Awesome! Hope to hear you on it soon?
That's the KQ2H 10 meter repeater in New York. It multiplexes into two meters and 440 as well. I love that system.
I'll be listening for it 😊
Awesome 👍
Terrific job Hayden. I look forward to working it 🙂
I have worked through a 10M repeater located in Portland OR before. Cool project.

Haha that’s awesome Peter.
I worked Karl VK7HDX via the Adelaide repeater - but he’s over 250km away.
4km is pretty cool 😂
This is really cool, I've never worked a 10m repeater at all, but I'll certainly be trying soon!
Yes please! When it was last on air (over 3 years ago - wow time flies) I never heard any ZL’s call on it, but it was the bottom of the cycle too

That VE3MMX repeater is great. Worked it from SoCalif. Was able to link up to Europe use the repeater.
We had a similar 10M repeater linked into our 440 system in southern Indiana. It has a separate site for tx/rx and linked radios over 220mhz.
Love 10m FM, worked the DF0HHH in Germany just a few hours ago. Work most of the EU repeaters nightly. Looking forward to working yours🙂

@@HamRadioDX yep, almost daily. VK3RHF and VK6RHF boom in up here.

Making Ham Magic!
Too right!
This is educational!
It’s a work in progress, I hope it all made sense
KQ2H I believe
That’s the one! Ding-dong..
Farthest 10m repeater was the HB9HD in Switzerland from California
👀
I had one of those old MLS radios
They are pretty sweet!
@HamRadioDX I think I still have it it's a unf radio .
Only worked vk2, 3, 4, 5 10m repeaters during sporadic E openings
You need a virtual assistant with an Aussie twang.
