    Hey Patty! Great tecniques! Your tutoritals are really helpful and easy to follow. Split Rail is one of my favorites. I'm adding the turntable cutting mat to my must-have list. Thanks for sharing!!!

      Thank you so much Catherine! It's incredibly versatile! So many designs from the base unit. Yeah that cutting mat was an investment, but worth it. I got a couple and sent back the others. This one was my favorite by far. Not having to adjust the fabric and rulers have really improved my accuracy, and I need all the help I can get. LOL

    Can you use a jelly roll with 2 1/2 “ strips? I have two that I need to do something with.

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  Год назад +1

      YES!!!! I used Precuts in 2.5" strips which are jelly rolls. These were odds and ends sent to me last summer by a viewer.

  • @cathylombard964
    @cathylombard964 Год назад

    What I can’t visualize when using a jelly roll is how to choose which strips to sew together. Do you just sew them together in sets of three as they come off the roll or do you pull them apart and choose which ones go together. Do I need to add additional fabric so I have some consistency in the blocks? I know I sound like an idiot. Sorry.

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  Год назад +1

      Oh my gosh! You are asking a completely valid question! What I did was pulled stuff from a couple different sets. One was heavy with the blue prints and the other was the orange and tangerine solids. So I mixed those two together. The brilliant thing is that there is no right or wrong way, and you might want to let yourself play and experiment with it a little to get a feel for mixing colors and prints. I think that people miss out on the fun of experimentation and a lot of the video content is geared towards large finished projects when small things are valid. You could make some of these and save a bunch of 12" blocks to put into a large project at the end of the year as well. You can pull some strips and play a little to see what happens. I wound up piecing three of these blocks into a table runner that I really like. The bigger one is probably going to be a pillow. I will definitely make a video to show both of those this week. I hope that helps and that you got a little more direction from this reply.

      Absolutely! It was kind of a rough week if I'm being honest. 😟 But I got through it and still got my video made along with several pretty quilt blocks. So it wasn't all bad.

      Hi Patty - great video. Your blocks look nice and crisp - do you starch them? I’ve seen other quilters do that. Thanks.

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  Год назад

      @@paulinegagne-bertrand9871 HI Pauline!! I do use starch, but not with these blocks. I was just very careful with assembly and pressing. I find the starch is most useful for construction using bias cuts or very large units of construction.
