In my favorite non-musical scene from The Last Waltz, Levon first lights Robbie's cigarette then continues talking as the match burns down. Don't try this at home.
Wow. Just scrolling through Levon stuff and came across this. So funny. I thought it was only me who noticed. He is so cool. First the southern gentleman that he is, he lights Robbie's cigarette. Then continues on with his story as the flame kept burning. Love and miss that man!
I am so happy someone else noticed this! I've been raving about the match in this scene for years, and how he seems oblivious that it's seconds away from burning his fingers!
@@michaelmccauley9585 yes... and both are quite loaded and high here. (not that it's not obvious) Shortly after this, Levon got clean. Robbie... not so much.
@@woodstockjon420 That part is somewhat muddy. Fact is that Richard, Rick and Levon were hooked on heroin, for quite some time, one reason Robbie got fed up with being the caretaker of The Band. Robbie did drugs too, but stayed away from heroin, and yes he did cocaine, and also sometime after The Last Waltz he moved in with Scorsese and they did a lot of cocaine. His wife had thrown him out, although the reconciled later, and then final divorced aroung 2003 or so. Not sure long Levon was clean, but Joe Forno Jr. who wrote the book "Levon's Man" and was The Band (sans Robbie) from the mid eigthies to the midnineties, writes that Levon went to a clinic to clean up (around 1990 or so) and did, but be 1994 according to Forno he was using some kind of substance.
@@michaelmccauley9585 Not sure figthing bitterly is the right term, they had some disagreement about The Last Waltz, but Robbie for the most part kept his cool. The bitterness came later when Levon wrote his book and blamed Robbie (most of not true) for a lot of stuff.

After he lights his match, you see him glance real quick and immediately lights Robbie's smoke first. That's a perfect bandmate, right there.

WITCHPOLICE.com You just can't burn cool.
He is so cool yet doesn’t come of as arrogant. I need to learn this.
That would be a cool poster of him with that match
big love 4 this guy when i was a teen. the voice and drummer blew me away!!
Dude embodied the spirit of all that is good about American music and culture.
Every member of the band oozed cool.
He respects Robbie so much he lit his smoke first.
And yet they were fighting bitterly at the time.

That was a common thing to do back then.
