Thank you so much as me mum & dad are from Falkland Fife where some of Outlander was filmed. That was a service we have used as we always stayed Kellingheath Caravan Park when in Norfolk. In total we took the long drive to Norfolk around 3 or 4 times. Yeah that’s brought back alot of fond memories so thank you mate. Think the bus you got i think was a ex London Scania I think . 👍
@ yeah Sanders have spent quite alot on renewing their single & double deck stock. Not sure how much each though. We first went to Norfolk in 1988 & my favourite bus will always be the old Bristol VRT as they were really nippy from what I remember. Eastern Counties had those buses when it was a public owned company at the time. First bus took over late 1990s early 2000s mate.
I don't know if they still do but Sanders buses used to name their double decker buses. Goliath and Hercules being two names that they use. The sculpture is named War Horse and it's by Taverham artist Damian O'Connor. In 2017, he was sent a cease and desist letter by the county council, about his "item on the highway", saying he must "remove the item as soon as possible" or "further enforcement action" could be taken by the highways department.
Interesting Neil, thanks for the comment. I’m certainly not an expert on that part of the world tbh though I do think Sanders now have some newer buses on the route.
Great to re-visit Norfolk where I enjoyed living for many years. A fine commentary, and very informative about Norwich itself. Sanders do seem to have upped their game since I last saw their vehicles. As Les Dawson would have said, some of them were insured for fire, theft and Viking raids. For anyone visiting the north coast of the county, I might suggest that Sheringham is not to be missed as it has a preserved steam railway and an old station building. Full of atmosphere, and you can travel to the lovely little town of Holt.
I like to ride on this route. At Cromer or Sheringham I take the CH 1 Sanders bus back to Wells and onward on the Lynx 36 Coastliner back to Kings Lynn. All travel along very scenic routes.
Great video! I remember doing this route before the pandemic, where you could get a combined Sanders Coaches-Lynx ticket which meant you could technically do Norwich to Kings Lynn via the coast on the X44, Sanders CH1 and Lynx 36 through Cromer, Sheringham, Wells and Hunstanton. Might need to do it againh haha!
Norwich looks nice but so did Cromer, at a glance. Loved the thatched bus shelter. It’s cold and rainy here (green Christmas coming up) so nice to watch a sunny video. Thanks as always and Merry Christmas to you!
Yes, I liked both places and there were at least a couple of those bus shelters too (probably lots in the area). Happy Xmas to you too, thanks for all the comments 😊👍
Also used this Travelodge a couple of times, although we used the train to get to Sheringham. Enjoying the bus trips, there's so much to explore in the UK, used the T8 Chester-Mold yesterday!
I haven't but thanks for the suggestion. I've got lots of ideas for future bus trips so I can guarantee there'll be plenty more to come next year. Cheers.
thank you have visited Norwich on a few occasions but find it very flat not surprising coming from south Wales!!! Happy Christmas and safe travel in 2024
A very pleasant journey thanks for taking me along, wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year, take care and stay safe.
😊 hi Mark did you get to see the mustard factory in Norwich by the river? Looks nice that part of the country great bus service top marks to that company thanks for the history lesson and 🎥 all the best John 😊
I didn’t John, just a flying visit really. I’m presuming it’s Coleman’s Mustard (well I’m pretty sure they are from Norwich anyway). Tbh, I’m not a big fan but I do like French Mustard! Cheers mate 😊👍
Have used that Travelodge countless times, a bus spotters paradise if you're on the correct side of the hotel! Have also journeyed out to Aylsham on the X44 to walk the Bure Valley path (alongside the narrow gauge railway) - a pleasant nine mile cross country walk. Interesting video 👍
Another interesting trip, I’ve never been to Norwich, looks a very nice place, maybe one day I will get the chance. Thanks Mark for all the varied and informative videos this year, have a good Christmas and all the best for 2024 😊😊
Yeah, Norwich looks like a cool place to explore - I've only ever had lightening quick visits, many moons ago. Have a great Xmas Mark and look forward to more videos in 2024
Having taken both the train to Sheringham and this bus route, I actually prefer the bus for this trip and it's not that much slower than the train but way more frequent. It's just more scenic and Aylsham is a great little place. Also the rail station in Norwich is awkwardly located for the town centre. Norwich does really well for cross county bus services, filling in many of the gaps in the regions train services. It is good there is space for both buses and trains in the region though, they can work together really well. But Sanders are a great local company and very reliable in my experience, Norfolk is lucky to have them. Both coasthopper routes are great too. I'd happily see Arriva and First gone if they were replaced by quality local family run bus companies like Sanders. Also hard to say which of the two towns of Cromer and Sheringham is better, they are both charming and just great places to be, love North Norfolk but hard to believe they are just around the coast from run down Great Yarmouth!
Cheers Aaron, thanks for the local take on this. As a 'tourist' I was quite impressed with the bus services too. Will definitely be back sometime, try out the new Sanders buses.
@@LetsMakeaTrip I’m not a local, a tourist instead lol. I just like going to Norwich and Norfolk in general as Greater Anglia are doing discounted tickets called hare fares several times a year it seems, so cost just £15 return from just outside of London to Norfolk. I rid the X44 only 3 weeks ago and really liked it. There are a few places up there I would like to go back to and see more properly for sure.
Cheers Arthur. Yes I wonder if there will be many more replacements in the coming few years. I'm not sure of the oldest buses in their fleet tbh but I would be interesting to see the new ones. I have been to Great Yarmouth a while back. Had a really nice beach from what I remember.
Nice video mate! Local pride aside, the outside of the castle is indeed a bit cubish, but the inside museum is well worth a couple of hours next time you're in the city ;) There's also an aviation museum on the edge of the airport. Cromer is definitely a nice town, certainly nicer than Yarmouth or Lowestoft with a rail connection!
With the new Ryanair Flight from Norwich to Malta in 2024, I definitely need to pay a visit there. That OmniDekka was quite a nice bus for such route to the sea. Anyway, I will visit Shrewsbury this coming April
That will be handy for you flying to Norwich won't it! Yep, not a bad bus and the new buses I believe are really nice. Give me a shout when you're up in Shrewsbury, if I'm around would be good to catch up.
Hi Mark welcome from my home City of Norwich . Interesting fact the 1930's original bus station had the largest unsurpported roof in Europe ie no internal pillars holding up the structure . Oh and I prefer Sherringham to Cromer myself, But Wells-next-sea is also worth a visit if you are in the area again .
Have you been to Wells Next to Sea - There’s the steam railway. Also, I am seeing that they are going to try and link this onto the national rail network. There should be some information on the local websites. If you can find out when they do this could be very interesting to link they have to cross the main road into town.
I haven't been to Well Next to Sea though someone else mentioned this place in the comments. The steam railway project sounds interesting so I'll keep an eye out. Cheers mate.
I did a trip in a similar area from Peterborough to Norwich, but did it at the wrong time of year! I left Peterborough about 5pm on a September afternoon about 5 years ago & it was dark fairly quickly. Think it cost me about £5 which I don't think was 2 bad.
No £5 is not too bad at all because we're looking at around 4 hours I think judging by my Excel bus video. That acost me £2 which was a total bargain with the current fare cap.
Sanders tend to get a bad rap up here but I've used them a lot and they are usually fairly to time and reliable. I've never known them to buy a new bus and they have an interesting fleet of pic n' mix. I think that interesting seaside seat cover came from the South/South West coast previous owners from faulty memory. Possibly Southampton?
Oa that's interesting about the seat cover. I just assumed Sanders had always had the bus but you're probably right. They seemed like a decent local company to me but yep, as an outsider I'm not that familiar with them tbh.
Sanders are getting there, since 2021 they’ve bought 18 brand new single and double deckers (the X44 now has 5 of those in use) and about 20 older ones including EYY in the video had their seats repadded and retrimmed into this, not a cheap process!
@@NC-002 Thanks for the expert update. My memory was of a small single decker with south west towns like Poole in Dorset on the fabric. Good to hear of the shiny new fleet 🙂
That would have been an old Eastern Counties, not to be confused with Eastern National although both were subsidiaries of the National Bus Company, route and become First: Transforming Travel who have obviously given it up.
I'm very familiar with these services and you definitely got the worst double decker of the whole fleet on this service. there's much better EvoSeti that are mainly used on that route so bad luck
This is my neck of the woods.
Sanders buses are very reliable.

I agree! Thanks Sheila.
I’ve been to Cromer and it is such a lovely seaside town in Norfolk. Plus I grew up near Norwich and Norwich is such a beautiful city in East Anglia.
Yellow and green, the buses look like the football team in Norwich 😊
They do a bit. Never been to Carrow Road but always looked a decent stadium. I'll have to take in a game one day.

Thank you for posting. I did my PhD in UEA / Norwich. Norwich is in my heart now, I can only think of it as my second hometown. Miss every bit of it.
Hello from California!
Cromer and Sheringham are both lovely towns.
Yes they are. A lovely part of the world.

Nice one, sounds like a good combination that and possibly cheaper than several £2 bus fares? Cheers mate.
I live on the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border. A bus to the seaside is such an alien idea!
