The Airfield was built by the Americans during ww2 and it is an Active Airfield, it was called Mystery Island due to the fact the Japanese couldn't figure our where the planes were coming from.
There are differing stories of which this is one. To be honest, we are struggling to find any reputable source regarding the origins of the airstrip. Either way, it is a lovely spot, and the locals use the air strip regularly.
@@journeyswithjackiandjay We agree with you! It is hard to pin it down but the local chief did back up the story of how it got its name which is also written on Wikipedia about Queen Elizabeth wanting to go ashore for a picnic and her press team being unable to say what the Island was called so the newspaper headline came out as Mystery Island - Inyeug Island is a small uninhabited island in Tafea Province of Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean. "Inyeug" means "Small Island" in a local language.[which?] Inyueg is also called Mystery Island by the cruise ships that regularly visit the island.[1][2] The island was visited by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 1974, with the name "Mystery Island" coined to generate a more interesting headline of the report of the visit. Re the airstrip, I was fortunate to have a short conversation with the local village chief and he laughed when I mentioned the WW2 airstrip and said no, that it was just a publicity story drummed up by the cruise lines to promote the island and was only cleared in the 80's. Great video. Regards Tony & Selina

Absolutely our pleasure. We will be there again in July and always look forward to visiting.
doing this next March. Did they take credit cards on the island or do we have to use local currency?
Hi. All of the vendors take Aussie dollars. Take smaller notes as they may not have change for larger notes.
How was the lobster? Did it taste fresh?
From Jay - it was fresh and nice but definitely island style without the condiments and sides you would get at a restaurant.
