    So cute, THIS is what people want, not huge ceilings that echo, not open kitchens you can't cook in, THIS.

    We have a Sears Home. We didn't know when we first moved in, but a TV showed different homes, and WOW. We are only the second family to live in this house. I love it!

    My parents house was built around 1912 and still has the original pillar display cases as well as identical moulding above and around the door jambs, just like in this video! It wasn't a full Sears house, but many parts are the same as the catalogue parts. That green stained glass window is DIVINE!!

    I am pretty sure I lived in a kit house in Easthampton, MA and just learned there are several Sears kit homes in that town. The original owner was a carpenter. He built the house and was know for riding a bicycle, carrying his ladder and tools to jobs. The house was arts and crafts style,was very small, but had beautiful wood floors with a pattern that formed a diamond between the living room and dining room.

    I believe I have the Sears Winona circa 1913. The dining room has the pillars like what’s in this video and also has the wood work in the dining room. I find interesting is the dining and living rooms are top to bottom whereas mine is side to side. Looks like the original homeowner changed the layout.
    I love my quirky Sears home.

    Wow, what a gem! Amazing that the original millwork, dining room built-ins, wainscoting and (bonus!) light fixtures are in such great shape. I'm a fan of Sears kit homes, and this one is fantastic.

    Love those old houses. Currently designing my own and trying to incorporate some "old" features like an old fashioned breakfast nook like Sears used to do and a fireplace nook..
    Like to see the basement though!

    Thanks for the tour. What a beautiful home. You did a great job at restoration,,,a labor of love, no doubt. The only Sears Catalog home I've seen is at White's Bog, an old cranberry farm off of Route 70 in New Jersey. Unfortunately, it has been left to go to pot. I think it is wonderful that you have given this sturdy old home new life. Curious to know if the original came with central heating.

    According to the plans this home could be purchased with Hot water boiler heat. I believe that is how this home was purchased. Not all the radiators are original but there are some that seem original to the home. I have replaced the old hot water boiler with an energy efficient hot water boiler.

    • @scooterdover2771
      @scooterdover2771 3 года назад

      The exterior architecture is so unusual, and really quite eye-catching. I think the steam hot water heat was very desirable back then as it allowed for an even heat and was cleaner then a furnace that would be coal powered. It's not so desired today since you can't do central air with it.

    Sometimes it pays to be prudent... says every old casino nut that don’t know how to maximize value on their strong hands. Same holds true with real estate.

    It is truly sad that you can't Still buy these kits. It would make Homelessness as lot less and put more families in homes. I blame Unions and stupid Regulations

    • @sniperturtle1
      @sniperturtle1 2 года назад

      Please explain. Seems quite incoherent to blame Unions and regulations for the bad choices made by a corporation, which would be made worst by the tail of effects left by the Depression.
      The US has more houses than it needs to house its population. Homelessness is not about the absence of houses, it is about realtors/renters pricing people into the streets with their (unregulated) greed.
