Completely disagree. My 2000 Yaris had all the gauges in the centre of the panel, leaving nothing behind the wheel. It's a design I've missed ever since and feels way more natural when driving.
I have been sitting in it today in Denmark- it’s absolutely beautiful. If you like a high setting height it’s just perfect - the overall quality is amazing 🤩
Yes, and with the speed assist and lane assist (that this should have) no problem with the speedometer being on the middle screen , and maybe also have map speed limit warning. (and i hear it is easy to get used to quick glance in the corner for speed, not much of an annoyance once you get used to the speedometer location.
I think it was stupid for them not to include a small instrument display by the steering wheel. Stupid and unnecessary. They did a fantastic job with this vehicle but that will be a deal breaker for some people.

The screen is where it should be just like a Tesla. You get used to it pretty quickly. All those gauge clusters behind the steering wheel are old-school.
A Model 3 is bigger at this price point, but with Google Automotive and Volvo build quality and styling - I'll definitely prioritise this when the lease is out 👌

After learning the more affordable EVs are getting discontinued (side eyeing Chevy pretty hard here), and after researching countless others, I'm excited to reserve one of these considering it's Volvo, moderately priced, and small-ish. I've no idea why there aren't more hatchback EVs...like everyone wants to drive a great big lump around. I suppose there will be more in the future though. I like the look and design of this one best so far.
That is how it works in Tesla and once you’re used to having all controls on one screen, you will never want it any other way. It’s clean and efficient.

Volvo says they’ve studied it extensively and found no difference in safety between the driver looking down straight or at an angle. Still seems like something that will take some time to get used to.

Ever since I owned a Yaris, I've maintained that all info should live in the centre of the panel and not behind the steering wheel. I fully endorse this design. 👌
I have reserved one to replace my 2013 C30 (which I have loved). There is a lot of discussion and “hand-wringing” over the one center screen, but I think it won’t be an issue. I drive with my phone secured I a mount I the middle of my dashboard and I spend a lot more time looking at it for navigation and music, so I think people will adjust to this configuration just fine. Bravo Volvo! Excited to select my options later this year.
I work for bmw…. And I want this car…. Granted I might get it’s likely competitor the 2024 MINI Countryman EV because that is similar with no instrument cluster, but it at least has a HUD.
I despise the middle screen thing - it sucks in the Teslas, and it’s just all around bad design. Sad to see Volvo jumping on a bandwagon when there’s not a good reason for it. But I do love the look of most of the rest of the car… Since I can’t justify the cost of a Polestar 2 I may look seriously at buying one, but I know already the screen will always annoy me.
I have an xc60 hybrid recharge 2022, and I don't feel comfortable changing the heating control, I can ask google to do it, but sometimes I don't feel like talking.

It’s easier to refocus on the road at that distance than right in front of you. You get used to it but it’s totally fine.
It does have a HUD stock
Add an instrument/gauges screen behind the steering wheel or a heads up display and I’d be sold.

Older Yaris, All gens 2022 and prior of prius, etc have the speed in the middle of the dash. Drive it… you quickly realize it’s not distracting.

Lot's of Toyota's have had the speedometer etc in the centre of the dash, it's not exactly new or unheard of.
