What a great phrase "Go for the planes, return for the people". I'm originally Irish living in the US, I've been going to Oshkosh for as many years as I care to remember, when I'm asked why I go every year I reply "To see my friends".....This year we had a couple of younger friends come with us, after two days I asked them what they thought so far...."We cant believe how nice people are" First year camping, its the best way to do it, a city for the week.

    Nice video and discussion!
If you have the time, consider volunteering - I did it for the first time last year, and it was very fun and rewarding. You just have to show up, the people there will train you for whatever you will be doing, and you can work as little or as much as you like. Since I came in from Europe, it was easy to wake up early. I did the early shift at my "job", and then toured the show all afternoon. Just perfect! See you in Popham, I hope!

Would love to, but we're at the show from about 7.30 until late, so it'll have to be a retirement trip! Great idea though.

The biggest news out of oshkosh this year was mosaic rules proposal. Light sport aviation in America is getting ready to change dramatically.
    1. Weight limit from 1320lbs to 3000lbs plus
    2. Speed from 120knots to 250knots
    3. Constant speed prop
    4. Retractable gear
    5. Stall speed from 45knt to 54knt
    6. Light sport helicopters
    7. Four seat airplanes allowed
    8. Night flight allowed with medical or basic med
    9. Turbine engines and multi engines will be allowed.

Yup. Sadly, in the UK we are a long way away from that.

Went for the first time this year for 6 days and it is crazy. No BS of the British events, standing next to a P-51 on start up, wandering around the biz jet ramps, everybody just left to use their common and not get in the way. In the UK we see the odd PA-24, V tail Bonanza, Stinson, C180 etc at Oshkosh there are loads , hundreds of Bonanzas and Mooneys. A must do is the sea plane base, so relaxed and magical. The LAA rally would fit totally into homebuilt camping at Oshkosh. Finally people were just amazing, everybody wants to talk, never ate lunch without talking to somebody new.

It is a very special place, and you're right, you can't eat lunch without meting really friendly people.

They have a wider Bell 47G for plus sized passengers but you have to squeeze through the little hole in the bubble. It's amazing how big #OSH is, you really can't see it all in 7 days!

North 40- South 40 goes back to the Western Homestead days. Each homestead was 160 acres of land, further subdivided or at least designated by the N-S E-W quarters. It’s more of a Midwestern thing. As in ‘you need to help Pa work the south 40 before the storms come’

North 40/ South 40 usually refers to acres.

It’s something we talk about. Not impossible, but more complex than it appears!
