    Hey tony, I have a question. Does the guitar amplifier matter when it comes to Tejano music? I recently joined a Tejano band and been exposed to a whole new world of music, and would like to know I should lean to a certain direction. Btw, I have a PRS standard se running through an orange crush 35rt. I also have pedals but those are usually for other songs or certain sections of Tejano songs but mainly for our other songs such as country, classic rock, and some funk.

    • @anthonytonyhernandez9116
      @anthonytonyhernandez9116  Год назад +1

      J/A!! Thanks for the question. I think it depends on a few things. 1. It will always be the preference of the guitar player.
      2. The size of the amp....( too big to move around on the road, too small to hear on stage)
      3.Some amps sound different w PRS???
      I won't tell you what to do. In my experience, my go-to amp has mostly been the Roland JC120. Though it's a big amp, several of my guitars; PRS, Strat, Telie, a couple of semi-hollow bodies, and even my Macias Bajo sound great in it. I've also like the Fender Hotrod Deluxe and twin reverb.

    Great change of pace video, Tony! A must see for any musician, let alone aspiring Tejano guitarists. You packed a lot of knowledge into this video my brother. I always believed that it’s the little things that have the biggest impact when it comes to music and you exemplified that perfectly with how important tone, chord, and pick choice are. Brilliant Bass/guitar auto drive chain analogy on how a band must operate in tandem to be successful. Thank you for taking the time to produce these video gems. Tony, I can’t think of a better person to ask this question to being that you know the Lord. I’ve loved La Onda Chicana music since I was in my teens. In 81 I gave my life to Jesus. What is your opinion on being a Christian and playing “secular” music?

    • @anthonytonyhernandez9116
      @anthonytonyhernandez9116  2 года назад +2

      Great question ! The Bible says in Mark 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." My conviction is that God gives us giftings, talents and abilities to use to reach the lost. The Bible doesn't say go into "some of the world" or not to that "secular place, that's where the sinners or the "worldly people" are! What a perfect opportunity to share your faith of Jesus with someone who is going through something. Brotha, I'm no "super saint", I have my faults and have to confess my sins to Him daily, but when am opportunity comes where I can share the Lord, I do it in a loving non judgemental way. It's easy to sit in church for years, hear the Word, take books of notes on all the sermons from every church service and pretend to serve God among the "brothers" at church, it's another thing to do it in the "world." My dad would say "if God could use a donkey to get Jesus into Jerusalem, he could use us"..... I hope I answered your question.....blessings! Use your God given gift to reach the lost.

    Wow Tony…. Wow… whether you meant to or not, you created THE definitive guide to playing Tejano guitar. I don’t say that lightly. Seriously brother, tutorials are great but giving all of your followers an introspective look into your playing is priceless…One neat idea for a video would be to take a corrido with fairly simple chord changes and show step by step how you go about ornamenting and arranging in your style. I’m blessed that I came to find your content brother. One more thing. Your automotive students are privileged having you as their instructor. Your explanation of pocket, demonstration with a metronome, and your explanation shows you are a great teacher and willing to share knowledge obtained on the bandstand. Can you give me a Tejano cord break down what you would choose, for instance a ranchera in the key of C what would be your choices?

    • @anthonytonyhernandez9116
      @anthonytonyhernandez9116  2 года назад

      That would depend on the song, and what I mean is, the melody would/could dictate which chord I would select. Do you have a song in mind that we could use for an example?

    • @anthonytonyhernandez9116
      @anthonytonyhernandez9116  2 года назад +1

      As far as the root chord ( the C chord ) I could use a C Maj7, C Maj9, C 6add9, or a C/E. For the G chord, you could use a G13, G7, B min7/b5, G11, ( but this chord varies when you can use it). For the F chord, I would use a F Maj7, F Maj9, F 6add9, F/A, (again, this can vary with the melody of the song)

    SPEED: I’m in New Mexico and I can say that lots of NM music is played too fast. Many of the songs are the same (the classics) but I can tell where the band is from by the difference in speed. No sense in having great chords/brass if the speed is too fast to savor the music. You nailed it. I have a “few” years playing under my belt and so I think I do have a little credibility. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! How would you practice learning chords and how to play tejano progressions. I hope my question makes sense and once again thank you for this video, please keep them coming!

    • @anthonytonyhernandez9116
      @anthonytonyhernandez9116  2 года назад +1

      Great question! When I learn a new song, I usually will literally close my eyes an listen to the song. I'll listen to the bass guitar, the keys and then the guitar. I will not play until I have an idea what is being played. I can usually find what key the song is in (perfect pitch) and I will start to play along with the song.
      I would recommend: 1st listening to the song and get it "inside you" 2nd. Break the song up into "chuncks" , try learning the intro first, then the 1st chorus then the bridge and so on. 3rd If the songs starts off with a "lick", learn the rest of the song first, then come back to the " lick" later, I've found it to be easier because you'll have an understanding of how the song goes. If your learning a standard like Ram Herrera's "Amor y Besos" learn the original version not the live version, that way you can have a foundation on how the song really goes, then you can come back and the live version "licks" later. I hope that this helps!
