So far, you've missed out on some really nice travel gigs and doing the type of projects you really want to do, Have you considered at the end of your current retainer term, having someone else lined up locally that's both good and reliable and can take over the entire retainer, and in return getting 15% - 20% of the package? This would allow your client to be served and for you to be able to focus on delivering services for the projects work you really want.
@@scottjohnson3017 I actually haven’t missed out on too much. And in this case, I still got the job, albeit half project length. That’s fine with me. You can’t have fomo as a freelancer bc there’s always a million jobs in the air. They land how they land.
However, to your point, there are certain structures that can maximize effort. I have found 1 maybe two people locally that I can send in my place, take a margin off their rate, fully trust them and keep the job in tact. Even if I’m not there. In fact that is what’s happening rn. I’m on this job but I’m subcontracting out a local back for one of my clients.
I cannot subcontract the retainer as it is entirely built upon the personal connection. They don’t want anyone else.
