Goku was just speaking to him from Other World and told him when to unleash the biggest blast he could to overpower Cells. There were movie enemies that Vegeta helped kill and killed himself.

It was so large because he was releasing all his Negative energy, So after that his heart was pure good. Also, Goku and Vegeta were supposed too be even and Since GT was Non-Canon,Vegeta is pretty darn close too Gokus Power. So basicly, He Could of beat a Main Villian, He just attack them at the wrong time.
