    I've been court side during an OKC game, next to the OKC bench, and this whole Russell is a bad teammate is false to the highest degree. I always heard him talking to teammates about taking shots, keep taking shots, and I even heard "you can that [shot] up all night! Keep shooting!". He even talks to teammates prior to going back on the court about strategy. The tv media just happens to pan to Westbrook mean mugging on the bench after every OKC timeout, etc. Don't believe everything you see. He's the hardest working player in basketball; bar none! And OKC isnt even my favorite team.

    People be trippin. KD and Russ were ONE WIN AWAY from a second finals appearance in 5 years and they talk about how "Russ wasn't the right teammate for Kevin". Actually, Russ was perfectly fine for Kevin, it's just that BOTH blew a 3-1 lead against Golden State. That's as much Kevin's fault as it is Russell's fault. How you make it to the Western Conference Finals and lose 3 games in a row? Seriously. Had they won just 1 game, they perhaps would have beat the Cavaliers in the 2016 Finals, who knows? And right now, everybody would be singing a different tune. So I completely disagree with this narrative that Russ was not a good teammate for Kevin, and that he cannot win a championship. He got to at least one NBA finals, right? How many finals Chris Paul been to? Vince Carter? Tracy Mcgrady? Steve Nash? Yet no one would label them as "bad teammates" ....... please

      Kevin Durant quit on his team when he was up 3-1 and ran away to a team with three other all stars. Victor Oladipo put in hella work over the summer and got into extreme shape, so he put in his own work and got better, it's not like Russ was holding him back. Harden finally got placed into a position where his coach let him run iso ball for 20 seconds of the shot clock and then pull up for a three while playing as little defense as possible. PG is still a top five SF in the league and the number of open shots he gets while playing on the floor with Russ is so much higher than without him. There's this narrative that Russ is just a ballhog but he's such a dominant player that his teammates get open looks. Players that turned into all stars after they leave OKC isn't because Russ is a bad PG but its because now these players are being dropped in systems meant purely for them to shoot all the shots

If he was such a bad teammate those 2 would not have been competitive the last 4-5 years in the western conference almost always making it to the conference finals every year. They also got nailed with injuries until that final season with kd when they were one game from the finals against a team at that time, was called unbeatable and won 73 games.

Like AI before there's something in their minds about winning by themselves and taking bad decisions when it counts. Personally I think having a great coach would've been helpful for Russ, these special kind of hyper-competitive players needs someone able to channelling their energies in the right way. AI had his bests seasons with Larry Brown, MJ and Kobe were successful under Phil Jackson, Russ was never that lucky.

    The narrative that KD & Westbrook couldn't win a ring together is so overblown and narrow minded. OKC also lacked depth and 3-pt shooting role players that the Warriors, Heat, Spurs, and Cavs have had in the past few years. Other than KD & Westbrook who was the next biggest 3-pt shooting threat, IBAKA? And let's not forget trading Harden for Kevin Martin LOL is that Westbrook's fault too?

  • @24ctplays35

    I won’t ever knock a guy for trying to win at any cost. People knock LeBron for not shooting 40 times a game when he loses 1 game but then knock Westbrook for shooting 40 times a game and winning 1 game. It’s a no win situation for superstar players. If this was Kobe people would say “Mamba Mentality”. Regardless, Westbrook could win a ring with a better coach. But the Thunder won’t get rid of Billy Donovan because he’s cheap. And I hate the idea that KD left because he couldn’t win with Westbrook. Like it was all Westbrook fault KD didn’t show up in 3 elimination games.

    Or, why not ask the opinion of the other person that, also, truly matters in this debate: The head coach, Billy Donovan, who, has done no coaching in the 2 seasons following Kevin Durant's departure from the Thunder.

  • @conquered.kozmos1395

    See, this how the media kills russ. KD never said he couldn't win with Westbrook. The only thing he ever said about him winning in OKC is that he didn't believe in Billy Donovan, and that outside of him and Russ, there wasn't enough talent to get a ring.
    If Scott Brooks and Harden had stayed, KD would still be in OKC and would be the concensus best player in the league. He'd probably have 2 rings and a finals MVP. But oh well.

  • @sc239

    KD never said all that about Russ. KD left because the best team in the league by far had the salary cap space to sign outright without losing any players. That happened due to massive salary cap spike and GS players not getting their big extensions yet. Nothing to do with Russ, KD just left his wife and kids for the hot young model.
    KD left OKC to join the Warriors and bum rush the NBA, not to get away from Russ.

  • @josephdelledonne2098
    @josephdelledonne2098 6 лет назад

    I do believe KD left to win a title. However, if they would have beaten Golden State that year instead of blowing a 3-1 lead and won a championship he would have stayed. However, I do believe that he didn't like playing with Russ. There's only one ball. I don't think Russ liked playing with KD either. Russ wants to take more shots, with Kevin he was only averaging about 22 or so ppg. He was forced to share the ball, not score like he likes, and not rack up triple doubles. I think both guys are happier now. Yes, I believe Westbrook is happy he can do what he wants as the only top guy, I don't think he likes losing though. KD is a little overrated, he's Finals MVP twice, but he went to a team that won a title, was in 2 finals, could have won another without him, and had the best regular season record in history. Come on! Westbrook is overrated to, I read an interview once where Bird said he could get a triple double every game, but then the team wouldn't be winning. Instead of making the right plays, Westbrook is padding his stats. Plus, he shoots too much, especially at the wrong times. I hate to say it, but Skip is right, Lebron can do that. I think that Westbrook tries to do it like Lebron, but just can't.

  • @bluewave3417
    @bluewave3417 6 лет назад

    Westbrook is a point guard. And he's a PG on a team where the coach has no real offensive system. So they need a floor general even moreso because Donovan's sets are terrible. So Westbrook's raging bull approach to playing basketball hurts his team A LOT. If OKC had Chris Paul they would be so much better. And don't mistake high assists with actually running the offense. Westbrook is a shooting guard pretending to be a point. The problem is no one else is running the offense.

  • @L0ngstrip
    @L0ngstrip 6 лет назад

    Shannon doesn't know what he speaks. KD wants to play unselfish ball when Kerr had to ask him to trust his team mates. Like one guy said, KD chose warriors because its an easier path. He though winning would stop the media and fans from critiquing him or asking hard questions. It didn't work so that's why he is responding to everyone who doesn't praise him. Fact is he only wants the good that comes with winning. You don't win 4 scoring with a ball hog as your point guard. Westbrook like John wall, Kyrie, Curry, etc makes bad decisions but he is the one with the lowest fence.

  • @townskt1
    @townskt1 6 лет назад

    Westbrook is a good guy to be on a team with because he's always going to get after it and help his teammates... the thing is he's selfish when it comes to who is in charge combined with an unstable game which makes him come off as selfish... him chasing triple-doubles doesn't help the 'unselfish' situation either... he's okay but he's a pad stat exit first round guy. So as the leader of a franchise, he'll pad his stats to average a triple-double winning MVP while getting bounced in the first round. You cannot be an MVP getting bounced in the first round while padding stats - that's selfish; he's not great he's just a guy that likes to eat all the food.

    I saw the RW and KD split coming when RW lost that series against Miami. He shot them out of that series and that was when KD decided he didn’t want to play with him.
    Russ is bad for a team who actually wants to win a Finals. He is a very selfish player. He would pass up passing the ball to create movement in an attempt to pass the ball that leads to an immediate bucket (assist). Often times, missing other opportunities.
