You should get the old beam Dendrochronology dated, it would be so interesting to find out the date it was cut, that would have been some big old tree.
@@Ether.Bunny9882that would give an idea of the age of the tree when it was cut, but not even the full age because it’s been milled. The commenter is curious about what year range the tree was growing, like during the 1600’s? 1800’s? That type of info, which would be really cool to know the size and difference between the rings along with other information can tell this because of the weather and other environmental factors during those time frames.
Billy I must tell you how much appreciated it is when you tell your staff how there contribution to your project is appreciated by you. To many employers take it for granted cause you pay them that all that they need. Most people will give extra when they feel they make a change. I respect you highly for that.
Wonderful choice of music, I laughed and enjoyed. Wow, what a beam. It would make a lovely temporary bench outside until you figure out what other project would be useful. If I had a whole tree like that, I'd sculpt something. Cheers!
Agree! Billy your music choices make your videos feel like movies with great scores! Very much next level! Needing to see some more Michael and love seeing Mom and Sadie tackling projects on her channel. Great family! Cheers from the Chicago area! ❤ as Yanis would say...CRACK ON!
I think your channel is my absolute favorite for many reasons but most of all for the music. Whether it is classical or cultural or country it always seems to be just what the scene needed for the mood. Whoever makes those decisions is a true master of mood and for me makes the time I spend with you a pure joy. Thanks so much for the lift it brings to my mood.
Mick~ that chain is soooo loooose!!! I hope I'm able to climb a scaffold and run a chain saw when I'm 80. You should be so proud of your dad Billy. I'm sure you are.
I lost my Dad when he was 58 and I was still in my 20s. Your comment makes me think you may have lost your Dad young too. I treasure my memories of my Dad. I hope you have treasured memories too. ❤
What a team and a great effort to get that huge beam down. I loved it when Papa Mick sat on a chunk of beam, crossed his legs, and watched Rick & Yannis finish up. A well-deserved rest! Have a great weekend, everyone! Cheers, Becky
I love this channel. Not a moment of boredom. Bill welcomed super-Yanis with an immense ease and generosity, giving him a profession. He shows a lot of respect for his father, which says a lot about him. Bill's vision and work standards are incredible in every way. Mick is very charming and a great support for Bill. We miss Simon, of course: I used to love his "intros" (so educational!) This channel is a joy. Thank you very much. I hope you reach 500K subscribers very soon.
It is so sweet to see skills passed down to younger folks. Billy, you honour your dad's expertise and show such respect. Yanis has becomes a favourite because he is so willing to learn and show his best. Great creativity, great team!!!
I've heard it said that The Blue Danube is a generational marker between those who see people dancing, and those who see a space station rotating. Now we have a third marker. You're giving Alex a high bar with both videography and editing, Billy.
Billy, I am an 87 years old fromSpain who is astonished of all the very difficult and risky works that you and your crew has achieved. You make all these difficult works look easy. I am every day looking forward for the next video. Thank you very much !! As you say: I appreciate” your work and videos
The Music Billy - OMG just magnificent and so moving - especially for me- as this piece of music is used for junior ballet dances - thank you, it brings back memories🥰🥰🥰🥰 And then the Maestro makes the mighty Cut - Go Mick - you are a legend on all levels of the human psyche - just love you all ❤
Yanis is the best pick-me-upper, every day! Love that man. And dad’s cheeky smile gives me great Christopher Walken vibes! Rick’s smile is always like the clouds lift for the sun to shine! And Billy your are a great boss and friend! ❤ keep cracking on!
Great work. Having watched from the purchase of the Convent through now, not missing a video, I enjoyed seeing those two orange metal doors fall to the wayside. Crack On!
I surely recognize those Stihl chainsaws...my builder husband has a huge collection. Amazing work being done here. Having built my own home, I cannot imagine such a big operation as this.
Hi Billy, That looked unbelievably heavy work, but oh what it does to your room! It’s going to make a lovely Library 📚 with all that natural life. What a crew👍
Can you imagine all those years ago having to cut that piece of wooden beam with out a chain saw, doing it by hand saw and also having to lift it in place phew, would make a great bench.
That's a really special lump of timber, Billy. And the cracked bits could prove really useful, too. So cool that you're re-using and recycling a precious resource. Think how many years it would have taken to grow that beam...👍
You need to get a pully to hang off the scaffolding lift, so that a rope can be used to carry the cement bucket up and down more easily. It will also be implemented for use on future high ceiling and flooring projects.
A perfect battering ram for the next castle you plan on storming! Also, given the deterioration on that beam, are there any others that you need to be concerned about?
Many years ago I studied architecture and drafting (before Computer programs) '73' and that beam was what they considered Fire proof. It wood take a much longer time to burn and damage than brick or concrete (Spaulding) However not against water damage.
I love your Dad Billy- he reminds me so much of my Dad (lost him in 1992) but he instilled worked ethic like I am sure your Dad did the same to you and your brother and sister. Have a Wonderful and Safe weekend. Take care Plus Yannis you did a wonderful job as well as Rick. Yeah that Oak beam needed to come down, I was so afraid of it letting go any minute and did not trust it. Again take care and Much love :D
So glad the renovations include replacing supports and removing old floors (just like at Ryan's house). Seeing the rot at the end of that beam was amazing. If only superficial and cosmetic work was done, believe years down the line there would have been some major cave ins. That beam was a monster! Great work!
Congratulations team....that was so well synchronized!! Well done and very impressive and thought out!! The music was perfect....LOL!! Your dad is certainly an inspiration for all of us....what a blessing he is.
Oak beam into statues would be a cool use of the material. Or milled down to boards to build shelves for the library. Keeping the history of the building living on in the new library...

There appeared to be a couple of close calls this week with him throwing stuff over the edge. So he might need to now learn to reign himself in, just a bit. It would be sad if any of your equipment pieces got damaged in any way. Thank you for always showing your appreciation for those who are working hard to make your dreams realities. What a fun video i love your choice of music and wartching Mich with the chainsaw was funny. I counlt help thinking when the beam hit the floor did the tiles crack?

I agree
As an 81 year old and a life student of carpentry and construction i have to say your father is a jewel and i'm sure you know your lucky to have him.
Right??! The man is a tank.. exactly what I want to achieve when I get to his age
The fact that grandpa is still around says a lot about Billy's chances for a long and healthy life.
As a 2 week old fetus i agree
Watching your Dad’s cheeky smile with the chainsaw was precious. Never to old to act like a yahoo kid!
So true😂😂
We only age on the outside, we are all kid on the inside.
You think he's hanging around Yanis too much?
You should get the old beam Dendrochronology dated, it would be so interesting to find out the date it was cut, that would have been some big old tree.
I was thinking that also . Would the cost be too prohibitive ? Great job , great video 💕
Ohmigosh fabulous idea!! ❤️❤️❤️
Or even to just try to count the visible rings, it would be a decent approximation of the beams age
@@gillyfletcher328 Dendrochronology isn't that expensive, I seem to remember something like 50 Euros per sample. I'd definitely go for it!

The size of the oak beam is amazing, even more so when you think about the size of the tree it came from.
All the hand planning the craftsmen used back in the day.
My thoughts as well.
And the lifting and placement without modern equipment.

I laughed out loud when Mick held up the chainsaw 💪 & Yan knocking the doors down.
I just love your dad Billy. He's a treasure.

Billy, take all of the Oak Beam to your Carpenter and have him turn it in to an Oak Dinning table(s) for your Chateau’s Basement Kitchen Project.
