This really helps, @Tak, showing the pricing ... 2:08 ... and telling us exactly what meat to buy. Because I didn't know what type of pork to use. I would have figured a roll of pork loin.
Pork butt, or pork shoulder really is a universal cut of meat. Like you, I've used it for char sui. I've also used the meat in a number of other dishes as well, i.e., wonton, pork chops, Chinese rho/yuk bing, sweet and sour pork, whatever dish calling for pork. I've even saved a bit of the fat to use when making har gow, and rendered the fat into lard. If it comes with a bone, it just goes into making soup stock. Nothing wasted here. The price definitely is right.
Thanks again, Chef Tak. I watched your whole video and was learning alot. Because it's just TOO EXPENSIVE for Middle Class now to eat out anymore, so we really have to cook at home and try to save money to make sure all bills are paid. But, Chefs like you (on RUclips) are teaching us how to make dishes for $2 or $3 bucks per person at home, not $10/$15 when eating out.
Thanks so much for sharing with us. Last week I made char siu pork belly using my grill, and your seasoning. I also brought a pork butt at Aldi's that was down 50%!
This was a lot of fun! And educational as well. I’m saving this one.
