  • Mr. Samir Kumar, Managing Director, Inventus (India) Advisors visited the IIIT Bangalore Innovation Center startups (from the I-INC & I-MACX programs) and shared his views and insights on how startups should pitch to a VC, and what VCs look for in a startup.
    Mr. Samir Kumar became a VC in 2001 when he joined Acer Technology Ventures - a $260 million institutional venture fund investing in technology and services companies in India, U.S. and Asia Pacific. Mr. Samir has been a Board Director at Cbazaar, InstaHealth, savaari.com, Sokrati and Telibrahma Technologies. Mr. Samir holds a BSEE from IIT Bombay and an MBA from IIM Bangalore.
    Inventus Capital Partners have financed and guided over 120 founding teams to dozens of successful IPOs or acquisitions, creating over $30 billion in aggregate wealth for founders and shareholders.
    Some of their portfolio companies in the plethora of sectors are:

    b) Ecommerce - redBus (Acquired by ibibo Group, 2013), Savaari, Power2SME

    The companies that attended the session were from the I-INC (Incubator) and I-MACX (Product Accelerator) programs were:
    1) Chipmonk - Component and Platform-as-a-Service innovator enabling customer’s remote monitoring and control requirements and solutions.
    2) tradedoot.com - Marketplace for agriculture / EXIM pricing / other information.
    3) EasyM2M Technologies - An enterprise grade wearable device for identifying "man down" and other such emergency scenarios.
    4) Onlinerti - A facilitator for filing and receiving replies under the RTI act.
    5) AbSimpl - A Chromecast-like device and associated software that facilitates consumption of education / healthcare video content on TVs.
    6) Queryhome - A platform that enables interaction between citizens / customers and employees with the enterprise / government.
    7) Clytics- An Energy-analytics firm that aims to offer a "personalized recommendation" on your electricity consumption (more on the lines of a personalized telephone bill - with detailed breakup and recommendations).
    8) Srishti ESDM - An innovative and leading ESDM (Electronic System Design and Manufacturing) company to design indigenously sophisticated and hi-tech Electronic Products for rural and semi-urban India.
    9) RedMed - To promote “consumer-centric care, consumer-directed health” and helping consumers live healthy lives.
    10) Fragging Monk - Branded PC offerings that allows consumers to customize and mod their cabinet. Also creating a Fraggingmonk version of Steam OS which is a new open source Linux based OS designed purely for gaming.
