  • In this video I am back in the shop working but taking a moment to show you what I have been up to. The sheet metal shop finally got a mini split heating and air conditioning setup installed. I used a 24K BTU unit and it is up and running and keeping the shop and contents at a very comfortable 62 degrees.
    A quick visit with the cows to show you that they are growing fast now that I have them on a steady diet of good quality hay and twice a day grain/corn mix. I will keep them fat and happy thru the winter so they can gain weight during the cold months.
    Next I will take you on a tour of the almost completed kitchen. The V groove pine is installed on the ceiling and the oak beams are stained a rich, dark color. The Sky Blue Shaker Cabinets are installed and I just have the farmhouse sink cabinet to install and plumb. The ceramic knobs are installed and I think they look great.
    Finally as time allows I am getting the SIP Hydroptic 8 ready to begin working. I have just received 2 TeCo Vises and I hope to be boring blocks very soon. More to come from projects in the shop and around the house and farm. Thanks for watching.

    Happy new Year Brian! Wow, just wow. I didn't expect anything but a top notch work on the remodeling of your kitchen, but that is some really amazing and beautiful work you've done! Great progress all round! Hope this year is a great one for you!

      Happy New Year to you as well. Kitchen is coming along great but the 1884 house is making it a challenge, nothing straight, level, or square in this house. Thanks for watching

    24K BTU seems a bit overkill for that size space, don't you think? I'd be worried in the summer that it won't move enough air to take the humidity out of the space. I just (like in this past week) installed a 18K unit in my insulated workshop that's about 650 square feet, and I was wondering if it was too big, but after talking to Mr. Cool, they said 18K is good.

      @metalshaperJeep  9 месяцев назад +1

      24K is the perfect size for this new shop. I can run it on DRY to take out any humidity and during the night hours when I am not inside instead of the A/C to keep it dry during the summer. I have used 12K, 18K, 24K, and larger and even multi zone setups. 24K is perfect for 1000 sq. ft. and it keeps my space heated perfectly.

      @@metalshaperJeep I forgot about the DRY mode. That's a good idea, I'll have to remember that this summer. I am in NE Ohio, so it gets cold (apparently like it does for you) so I will be curious to see what it does to the electric bill running as a heater. I'm also keeping it at 62 degrees.

      Gregg, have to agree with Brian, If my budget would allow, that same unit would be in my 900 sq ft shop. I have a Train 3 ton HVAC system, but breaks the bank to operate with Oncor as a supplier. I still heat with propane, and cool with a window unit, and sucks. That unit Brian installed, will pay for it's self in the first year.

    Happy new year.
    I hope you can give me some guidance on a pair of dana 44 axles.
    Both been messed up jungle type repairs.
    I need to set pinion depth as a starting point.
    Any advice.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Brian, kitchen looks good. What’s your opinion on the RTA cabinets? 👍👍👍

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  8 месяцев назад

      The RTA cabinets are great. Plywood boxes, hardwood face frame and doors, dovetailed drawers, soft close door hinges, full extension soft close drawers, and a super hard and durable finish. I was going to build the cabinets myself but after figuring lumber cost and hardware I was way more expensive than buying RTA cabinets. Just be careful who you buy your cabinets from, I heard a lot of bad stories and did a lot of research before buying from

    Happy holidays Brian, the kitchen is coming along nicely. I like your choice of knobs for the cabinets. Your cows look happy and healthy,they will make for good eating in the future. The new heater/air-conditioner in the shop will make it very comfortable for working. Have a good one. Mike.

      Thanks for watching, cows are doing great, and kitchen is almost done. I am really enjoying the mini split and love not having to stuff wood into another stove this winter.

    Careful with that sink. Porcelain coatings aren’t what they used to be. We put a Kohler farm sink in 25 years ago and it needs replaced. Found a place that redoes them in Indiana I think. It’s a 3 year wait.

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  8 месяцев назад

      I had a tough decision to make on the sink. Most farm sinks are made of clay/china and I have seen on dropped item break and entire sink. The stainless sinks are not great and I thought of building one but the time was going to be extensive. Decided on cast iron as you see and I am hoping for the best.

      @@metalshaperJeepThe sink itself has held up great. The porcelain just seems thin.
