    Both Rose and Borne would compete at WrestleMania just a few months later.

    Buddy was such a great heel. No surprise that he eventually became a heel again.

    The best is when Borne oversells Rose rubbing his shoe in his face at 3:45

    I do have some Portland Buzz Sawyer footage, including when he went by "Buzzsaw Kane" when he first arrived, but the quality isn't nearly as good.

    Buddy's face turn was great for like a week I was thankful for this turn back to the darkside

    • @jamestyree8884
      @jamestyree8884 5 месяцев назад

      Absolutely right. That night he turned was epic. Then the following Saturday it wasn't. Buddy was a natural chicken shit heel and was unconvincing as a babyface.

    This clip starts out with two newscasters and at first I was like, "Buddy's gone and got himself on the news again. Boy, they sure used to take their wrestling seriously in Portland, didn't they?" 😀

    • @Kaltagstar96
      @Kaltagstar96 Год назад

      Was that common in the territory days? Like, was wrestling covered alongside other sports in the time?

    • @oldnerdreviews
      @oldnerdreviews 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@Kaltagstar96 It was. I'm from Portland. Back then, the results of the wrestling matches the night before were in the morning newspaper along with the rest of the sports scores and results.

    A year after Buddy Rose turned face at the hands of Rip Oliver and Dynamite Kid he turns heel on Matt Borne.

    Portland had the two best heel turns in history -- this, and Billy Jack Haynes' turn.

    Both Rose and Borne wrestled at the first WrestleMaina a year later . Rose took on Tito Santana as the Masked Executioner and Borne wrestled Ricky Steamboat . They both lost.

      That's some good trivia. I had no idea Buddy was the Masked Executioner. I was on Spring break in TX when the first WrestleMania was being promoted all over MTV.

  • @musicguy64
    @musicguy64  16 лет назад +7

    Nope....Buddy was the lead heel in Portland from the day he arrived in Portland in August 1976 until this angle in June 1983. Ventura & Rose were a heel tag team, then Ventura became a face when he turned on Rose when he blamed Rose for injuring him when they lost the tag belts.

      Matt a pussy when is the last time you heard that in sports entertainment!!! Great promo we always kept watching because you never knew what they were going to say or do it was the wild wild West miss those days when you go to the sports arena and hurry home to see us on TV later that night. I just don’t understand why we haven’t been able to get another promotion in town that could last if AEW was smarter He would start a farm league here secure local TV and start turning. The next generation. Portland is not New York but all of our greatest talent ended up there even some of our not so talented ended up there because they knew how to work a crowd and today’s wrestlers only work a couple days a week, but that’s what I would do if I had, a major promotion because nobody knows how to cut a live promo without someone writing it for them. And then I would bring teams like FTR to work with a talent because they’re the only team that I think next to the Briscoe’s rest peas that have that old school mentality. Just my humble opinion.

    God ! I miss when wrestling was like this . Crowds electric , folks wanted to jump the rail at heels , girls screaming and crying at the babyface getting hurt . It will never be like that again . im 43 started watching at 6 . i caught the last of the territory style believable wrestling . wish i was born ten years earlier maybe for wrestling . ONLY !! LOL
