The Italian L3/33 CC is a pretty infamous gremlin / rat tanks in War Thunder. It also carries the title of the smallest tank in the game (as far as I know). Does that make it good? I don't think so. I really wish Gaijin would've given it some kind of solid AP round.

IIRC the anti tank rifle used here has a recoil management system where the barrel retracts into the stock, similar to a Barret M82. So the barrel is actually going back into another part of the gun, not into Luigi's frontal lobe
Do you mean the bolt recoils into the stock (like a M60 machine gun), or the barrel moves back together with the bolt (like a Barret M82)? I don't know what AT rifle this is, but seems unlikely that the barrel can recoil all the way into the stock...
@@neillathotep7386 I believe the barrel and bolt assembly move together, but I'm not entirely certain. Anti tank rifles aren't my area of expertise, so I could be completely wrong
@@alnotz It's Solothurn S18-1000 (three zeros) btw, 100 is a different gun.
@@neillathotep7386 Not a different gun, just different chambering for a different ammo type. Otherwise you are right the italian designation Fucile Controcarri S Mod.39 refers to the 1000 variant
@@alnotz My understanding is that 100 is gas-operated, there's a gas tube assembly on top of the barrel (kind of looks like a AKM gas block). The barrel does not recoil back.
The funny thing about the L3 is that most doors in WT are the width of a L3, *Despite the L3 having the width to have 2 people inside it*

when the l3/33 cc was still in the beta version of the Italian tech tree i remember it having pretty good pen even for a little while after the Italian tech tree was fully released, but i guess they nerfed it at some point.
I remember the same , I could kill almost anything in tier 1 with well placed shots , the armor was not a problem often

keep spotted an enemy for the platoon while unnoticed
bully and distract big vehicles by actual threats because they can't depress enough to get you
actually access parts of the map not intended for you to be in (there are a couple of maps where you can actually slip through the tank traps and go outside the map)

1:28, oh no, not necessarily. You see, it's just called long recoil. What that means is that the whole gun may not necessarily be recoiling, but just the barrel is moving back, while the (if properly mounted) receiver would stay still. So think of the 40mm cannons on the m42 and m19a1, the barrels recoil back with the bolt to eventually unlocking the bolt until they both go into battery. So the receiver isn't necessarily "annihilating his skull"... that is assuming that the it mounted properly.

Honestly my favorite tank in the game I love just how small it is. I managed to get a 12 kill streak once in a game along with 5 assists. Never even came close to that afterwards though

Utter confusion. First time i saw one i went to it and started driving around it to understand what it was (after shooting it of course). After the match i inmediately searched for it and went to unlock it

I love this little -Anzio- Italian tank
I knew a friend who played HOI 4 that did War Thunder's Italian tree.
They were the ones that got me into the tech tree to begin with, and helped me rank up all the way to 3.0.
He was a native to San Marino who had great pride playing the tanks on Italy.
One of the best memories I had with him was when he downed 3 - 4 tanks in a 2.0 line up at Eastern Europe.
In the fire and blaze, he screamed "ITALIAN SUPERIORITY" whilst gunning down everyone going into the B point.

This thing always reminds me of Roberto from Futurama with those little lights on the side.

I'm pretty sure this thing has functionally the same "api" ammo of the Italian 20mm, but it fires four times as slowly. It is an absolute gremlin though and I love to play it!
I think the penetration is almost identical but the 20mm still seems to do more damage somehow

italy did make a decent td with a high velocity 90mm gun and actually used it in world war 2 sadly it was produced in small numbers, the tank destroyer in question is the semovente 90/53

To answer your question about the guns recoil, it is the Solothurn S 18 1000. It’s a short recoil semiautomatic “shoulder fired weapon”, so the gunner should have his shoulder right on “the breach” because only the barrel moves. Now the real gun the barrel only recoils about 2-4 inches not the nearly a foot of recoil that the firing animation would imply.
Regarding the gun recoiling into the gunner's face, I assume that it's only the barrel that's recoiling and the receiver (or whatever you call it on cannons) stays relatively still.
They should add the flamethrower variant in game. Maybe a researchable modification that gives this thing a fuel trailer like the Churchill Crocodile and replaces the 20mm with dragons breath.

I'll be honest, I think the biggest issue was using it as a sniper, you really have to get close and personal with this tank due to it's low pen.
The most kills I got this with this tank was 5 and that was by constantly using corners and charging/surprising players.

If you wanna continue on Italian tanks I recommend to you the Fiat-Ansaldo P40. Its aphe maybe as a low penetration at it's rank but damn those 270g of tnt are just nuts ! You can even overpressure M4 with them, and the heat round is maybe not that great but it can do the job on some heavier targets :p

The L3/33 is pretty underrated because most people don't play it as intended. Historically, it was never meant to go on it's own, instead being perched on back of a Type-89B to be lobbed at opponents.
This thing is such an adorable little brat. Sometimes its so small some enemies would just pass right by you obliviously. What I like to do sometimes is not empty the mag but poke them every so often pissing them off. It's like the ASU-57 but nowhere near as deadly. Speaking of the ASU you should try it. I purposely bring it in top tier for the sole purpose of pissing people off and timeline wise it makes sense in top tier despite it's BR being in the WWII era. The salty tears are so delicious.

The L3 is good for 2 things: being a bush rat and swatting armored cars, and gliding seamlessly over the road gaps in user-made obstacle course races. Like when there's a bunch of slabs on their side spaced out? Yeah just straight over it because it's so light that gravity doesn't actually effect the tankette.
I tend to use this little guy up to just before thermals. You can steal so many caps without anyone ever knowing you exist. Or stall caps entirely for the longest time.
As an italian main myself, i quite enjoy playing the L3/33 CC in a higher BR, especially 4.0 or 3.7 because every match you always get petted.
This tank is the best tank. If it were a sci-fi creature, it would be a Zergling. I suspect when built, they came out of the factory in pairs.

Fun fact the gun would be ripped out off the turret if the gun recoiled back the barrel is actually going into a compartment where it recoils

Honestly its actually pretty good in cities since you can literally hide in bomb craters and be so low the enemy cannot depress the gun low enough to shoot you.
L3 squads are incredibly fun, I love goofing around in low tier Italy. Even if I get 8 rp per game, I still get like 6 kills (miraculously) most of the time
The crew would be more effective as individual dudes running around on foot with rifles
The first tank I researched was actually the L3/33, as I knew that a really small tank was in the Italy section. Also, pro tip for the L3/33, just play offensively.
The L3/33 is so small, there is a concrete pipe on Stalingrad near B point that it can drive into.
The exhaust ports aren't attached to the engine. They're attached to the cabin to provide ventilation for the chain smoking crew members Patty and Selma from the Simpsons.
1:30 seems like there is a shoulder brace on the gun so asumably the recoil is a bit less irl and the shoulder brace would be used so this thing is basicaly a 20mm sniper riffle

the way to play the L3 ambush style you hide in bushes near Cap points or popular routes and wait till someone get close enough for your to take them out, your target priority is the gunner or the ammo. if your facing more than 1 enemy only target the last one in the convoy, and once you finish them off wait 3 seconds before changing positions try to be as far as possible from your last position

And this 20mm version it's a special version. The tank had a double 7mm machinegun designed to fight infantry in the narrow italian roads where other tanks could not move, and another version had a flamethrower.
There it could be somewhat effective, but where thei send it? In the african desert.

The anti tank rifle is long recoil operated, so the barrel move backwards while the receiver stays in place.

This little thing is one of the only vehicles in the game I can bush up in good conscience.
Bro, what if you took this, sized it up slightly, maybe about 11% more, gave it modern ablative armor, replaced the 'gun' with a retrofitted semi-auto Bushmaster, and gave it a side armament of tube launched UJ's. A small itty bitty tank killer, with a gun that can take out light armor that's threats to it up close, but all it has to do is get within 2500 meters, and launch out it's kamikaze drones. Light gunfire and arty isn't gonna phase it. AP-mines won't destroy it. Rockets? The thing is twelve and a half foot long, nearly 60% smaller than normal armors, good luck with a medium distance snipe, and the 25mm is more than capable of greasing you. It's wittle. You'll have to send armor to handle it, but it also eats them... while it has the drones, that is. Once it's out, you're a reaaaaally crappy turret. Just pray to god they don't send a heli after you. (they will, or they'll just drone you.)
Realistically, this could feasibly be used in heavy urban area's. Hell, with modern advancements, it could be a single seater. (This is a very, very, bad idea. Not it being a single seater, just the whole thing in general... Unless it's also a drone.)
